Surprised that I have had to add this pub as it is one of Melbourne's oldest! Maybe the Mitre doesn't appeal to the hipster/craft beer crowd? In any event, it appeals to me. Housed in what is apparently the oldest standing building in Melbourne city, and hidden away in a little space that is Bank Place, this is a Melbourne institution and a great pub. Nothing necessarily great about the food or service but a reasonable range of traditional and craft selections and a nice vibe with the surrounding courtyard and historic ambience. I have not eaten in the steak house but looks expensive and so I stick with the pub food. It's acceptable and generously sized. Get here for a drink now!
