June 2007: 500 ml brown silk print bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Also available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. Beautiful copper colour, large tan head. Malty sweetish aroma, notes of caramel and bakery. Malty sweet flavour, loads of caramel, sweeter than I appreciate. Very moderate hops in the finish.

Kozlak from Browar Amber. Picked up at Shangy’s, Emmaus, PA. $ 2.64 (Including tax)/500 mL bottle ($ 0.156/oz) on 18/09/21. Imported by AMTEC. On room temperature shelf at store, stored at 37 degrees at home. Reviewed 011/07/22. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Possibly dated on back label “P.O. 1/1.01”. Served at 52.7 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King Snifter. Final temperature 57.2 degrees.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Deep Amber (SRM 15), clear.
Body – Ruby Brown (SRM 24), clear. When rear-lite, translucent ruby. Loose sediment in bottom of bottle.
Head – Small (Maximum 1.2 cm, aggressive center pour), wheat, high-density and fizzy, no retention, finishing with a few isolated segments of > one mm bubble ring fed by effervescence.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3.5 – Initially weak fruity malt. No hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 3.5 – Begins slightly sweet with fruity caramel malt. No ethanol (6.3 % ABV, as marked on label) aroma or taste. Barely noticeable gastric warming. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, watery, lightly fizzy carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 Decent bock, beautiful appearance up to the end of the pour when the sediment flowed. Both flavor and aroma are typical – weak but obvious.
