Served in a goblet, the head bubbled up nicely, but disappated rather soon. Great yeasty and alcohol smell, and low on hops for a tripel. This bottled condidtioned ale is tawny-orange colored, and tastes very sweet. Very Dutch. From my trip to the Netherlands, the beer is very typical of Dutch beers with an emphasis on the characteristics that the yeast contributes to the beer over other elements. Elegant and understated beer, one that could be easily underrated unless you like what yeast to be in the forefront of your beer.

330 ml bottle, just purchased but label appears to indicate a 2006 vintage! Label cearly states 8% ABV

Seal is ok but carbonation is low and there's a large amount of sediment. The beer could be fine anyway, with 8% ABV, and the aroma suggests that it is. The aroma also reveals a high ABV, as does the taste and feel. In fact, on a sensory basis the ABV seems more like 11%. The aroma also has a prominent dark fruit note and is nicely sweet. The flavor is also fruity, but with a hint of peat and a moment of moderate bitterness at the finish. Rich and complex, but with a fairly mild aftertaste that is fruity and lightly earthy.

O: Rating given a very small boost to compensate for apparent age.

330 ml bottle into chalice, no bottle dating(060589 on the back?). Pours cloudy orange amber color with a small frothy 1 finger off white head with ok retention, that reduces to a a ring of lace. Light spotty lacing clings to the glass; minimal carbonation streaming up. Aromas of pear, apple, peach, honey, candi sugar, bread, caramel, pepper, herbal, earth, and yeast spiciness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity; a touch too sweet but they work well. Taste of pear, apple, honey, peach, candi sugar, biscuit, herbal, nuttiness, earth, and light toast. Lingering notes of light fruit, biscuit, honey, candi sugar, caramel, earth, and light herbal on the finish for a good bit. Nice flavor balance and complexity; not cloyingly sweet at all surprisingly. Minimal carbonation and medium bodied; with a fairly slick and creamy mouthfeel that is ok. Drinks surprisingly smooth with barely any carbonation. Alcohol is very well hidden with pretty much zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a quite nice Tripel despite very low carbonation. Very balanced with good complexity; and very smooth to sip on. Likely old, but I am sure a fresh bottle would turn out to be a great brew; provided it was well carbonated.

Discount beer, could this be old? light-struck? Oh well.

A-Pours mostly transparent. There are some pretty sizable satellites of debris floating around aimlessly. Color is orange at heart and fades to yellow on the outer edges. Head is a bubbly, inconsistent mess; even after a very aggressive pour.

S-Actually smells pretty lively. Sugary sweetness and some grassiness. Yeast. Quite fruity but also a bit earthy. The fruits remind me most of pears and green-skinned apples.

T-Very, very sugary. Dense, overly-rich sugar. Tastes like a spoonful of honey. Has a cider-like quality. A tad bit woody. Fruity and lightly yeasty. I normally don't like my beers sweet, especially if they aren't dark beers. But this one, in all its sweetness, is enjoyable.

M-Alcohol is masked excellently. This beers is surprisingly not cloying. This has all the ingredients to be a sweet, boozy mess. However this beer is not. I attribute this to the mouthfeel. Heavier body. Not very dry. The sweetness somehow counteracts the booze. Usually I find the sweetness to pair with the alcohol in a unattractive fashion. Carbonation is low. Big body.

O/D-For a $3 750 ml this was blatantly a bargain. I have not had many Tripels. I also tend to steer away from high ABV, super-sweet beers. But I am glad I tried this. Definitely warms the cheeks. But overall, a pretty good beer, especially in the cooler months.

Has a spicy, flowery nose that promises quite a lot of sugar in the body.

These notes continue on the tongue, the sugars definitely winning out here. Taste comparisons might include berries dusted with cloves, or a hint of orange peel with allspice. There's also a bit of yeast flavor, as well as a small thread of alcohol. Flavors are not overly powerful on the whole (i.e. the "herbs and spices" noted above aren't going to overpower your tongue, nor do they get in the way of the malt flavors), but are instead kept to a nice, moderate level that means the brew is dangerously drinkable; I went through a rather large glass without noticing it. The beer is not overly hopped, so bitterness is not a factor. It is quite bubbly, though--effervescent, if you will--and pleasant.

Overall, it reminded me strongly of Hoegaarden, and definitely falls into the same class of beer in terms of flavor and drinkability.

Not bad, but not so hot. Poured with an off wite head and a bit of lace. Color was a medium amber. Aroma was caramel, malt, a bit of yeast. Body's s a bit chewy. not bad. Flav's like aroma. A few odd butterscotch things but minor. Finish is easy, perhaps a tad sweet. could be worse.

Hmmn. Not much going for this in the pour- very murky orange/amber/brown with no head, but at least there is some decent carbonation. Sweet, fruity, and yeasty in the nose with pleasant aromas of peaches, plums, lemon, lime, and some sweet malt and slightly spicy Belgian style yeast. The taste is similar to the smell but a bit murkier and with some fade in flavor on the finish. Also a bit lighter than you might expect. Relatively light, fruity, and smooth in the mouthfeel, but also a bit murky. Not the cleanest tripel in the world, nor one that exhibits the typical flavors of a classice tripel. Still, I could drink another one.

This was poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

A - light golden color with a thick head that settles somewhat but is retained in a thick collar; nice lacing as it drains

S - sweet malt up front followed by gentle hops and some yeasty esters

T - honey-like malt flavored with European subtly spicy hops, yeasty esters are present - apricot and pear in nature

M - medium body, moderate to high carbonation

D - This is an excellent Tripel. It's on the sweet side, but that's typical for the non-Trappist breweries. In the right context, and with the right dish, this beer is very enjoyable.

A hazy orange color with a small head and a decent long lasting lace.
This had an aroma of candy, citrus fruits /mango-peach,apples and yeast.
The taste was sweet, oranges, peaches and honey notes. It had a spice/clove hint with subtle malts.
The feel was medium body and medium to high carbonation. As it warms the carbonation eases up and the smoothness of the beer comes through. Easy enough to drink.

Notes: A decent tripel,on the sweet/honey side, but good. I liked it and while I may not rush out to buy another bottle any time soon I would like to add that this is a good tripel to have on hand for the ladies. I do not mean to say that that this beer is too feminine it is just that I found that a lot of women I know like this beer.

Pours transparent gold with a moderate head, leaving some small clumps of yeast in suspension. Retains lace nicely.

Light fruity nose of banana and vague tropical fruit.

The taste is a fruit punch of a tripel, with a big range of flavors. Notes of banana, papaya, cantalope, pineapple, vanilla, clove, ginger, and yeast. Starts moderately sweet, leaving a lingering candied tropical fruit taste.

Light mouthfeel with mild carbonation. Alcohol is not as prominent as one would expect for a 9%. A very drinkable brew.

Out of a 750ml capped and foiled bottle. Pours a cloudy golden orange color wtih an average white head, didn't leave much lacing. The aroma is of candi sugar, apricots, candied tropical fruit, coriander, and orange peel. The Belgian yeast creates some tropical fruit esters, candied mangos, juicy fruit, some lemon and green apple. These are accompanied by coriander, orange peel, and perhaps some white pepper spice. Not my favorite flavor profile for a tripel but it is well constructed. The feel is moderate with fizzy carbonation; finishes sweet and spicy. A well constucted tripel just not my favorite. Tastes too much like a wit for my liking.

This is a beer that you warm up to as it settles. It pours a fairly cloudy orangish color with some head, lacing, and retention. The latter is mostly slight froth that rings the glass. The beer is very modestly carbonated. The smell is a bit too yeasty for my tastes, and does not do the beer justice. The aroma is the low note, but drink on. The taste is sweet malts, candied sugars in the fermentation, and a combination of fruits. Green apples for sure, pineapple, clove perhaps, apricot citrus maybe. The tastes are quite complex and they do meld and blend as the beer settles. I pegged this for clove and apple on the first pour, but things became slightly more complex as it all settled. The beer is a bit strong and does not hide its rather highish ABV all that well. There are warming notes but too much raw alcohol comes through in the finish as well. This is a nice beer worth seeking out. L'Chaim.

750 ML green bottle purchased for $9.99 from Wine and Beverage Depot in Totowa...
Pours a murky, cloudy, light-copper, bright-orange colored hue with slight carbonation rising and a minimal amount of sediment visible...
No real head but a lot of lacing left around the glass...
Strong aroma of nectarines, citrus, and florals...
Sweet, candied taste apparent with oranges, tangerines, fresh fruit, and spices...
Overall, not a bad Triple, but certainly not above and beyond...
clean, sweet, crisp mouthfeel with a good level of drinkability mainly due to the fact that the 8% ABV is difficult to detect...
Worth a try...

Large bottle capped and foil over the top. Best before date notched onto the side of the label. (Notches and month/year info don't really match up, so not real confident about what it means, they are trying anyway)

This one pours soft, light apricot with a shimmer of gold mixed in. Semi cloudy with some chunkies floating around. Off white light fine head, nice retention and leaves ample lacing. Wonderful fragrant nose of orange and honey. Soft, tasty, complex, warming creation, overflowing with more honey, orange, grassy hops, peppery spice lurking in the rear. Fine, fine stuff. All my wife said was "we should have bought a case"...

Pours a clouded gold brown. Decent white head. Nose is a big mix of yeast and sugar but is overall fairly mild. Flavor is smooth and tangy with a slight bitter tone to the end of it. Almost seems to be a mustard seed tone to it as well. I don’t know where that is coming from in my brain. Feel is nice with a good level of bubble on the tongue. Very drinkable. Nothing really unusual or fancy here. Just a pretty even and smooth brew.

Pours to a hazy golden orange with some slight suspended particles, and a thin white head that lingered a while and left some lacing. Aroma was fruity, mostly apples and bananas, and the mouthfeel was slightly tangy. Taste was non-descript, yet pleasant and slightly sweet, and the finish was muted, yet slightly bittersweet, with only a hint of the 8% abv creeping in at the very end.

Not a bad beer, and one I’m glad I tried.

Poured 2/3 of the bottle immediately after it was dropped on the ground and started to spew. Oops!

High level of foam on an orange body. A very mild tripel, overall. Grainy, honey aroma.

Very mild taste too, mellow earthy hops. Husky grain and a touch sweet. Gets mildly cloying.
Sorry, not worth the price of admission. Too alcoholic. Dulle Teve is much more complex and worthwhile.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a St. Bernardus chalice. Body is a slightly cloudy orange hue, topped by a finger of creamy off-white head that retains fairly well, but doesn't leave lacing. Thick aroma of sweet Belgian malt, candi sugar, a hint of pineapple, and a little bit of light fruity hops. Palate takes a few sips to grow on you - pleasantly sugary up front, becoming more balanced towards the back of the mouth as the mellower aspects of the malt emerge. Finishes with a mild malty sweetness accented by a touch of oak. Mouthfeel is creamy and just a touch sticky, although the carbonation isn't quite where I want it to be in a tripel. Goes down pretty easily, especially for a 9% ale. Not bad, but not one of my favorite tripels.

Pours a cloudy orange-amber with plentiful fine white head. Aroma is full of caramely & yeasty/bready notes with a hint of herbs (perhaps peppermint?). Flavor starts mild at first with caramel & candi sugar notes, gets juicy malty (honey-ish?) with a touch of fruit (nectarine?) and spice (clove?) against the bready/yeasty flavors in the middle & then ends sharply alcoholic & warming & slightly bitter. Nice lace remains behind. Perhaps a bit softer than some tripels, but quite enjoyable.
