Sunday 16 Dec 2012: Antwerp Gollem. 33cl glass from the tap.

Golden yellow body, almost clear, on top a white, full head. Mild citrus feel to the aroma, some yeast and semi-sweet maltiness added to the smells.

The taste was biscuit malty with a hint of citrus fruit filling. Not as exciting as I hoped for: not bland, but not far off. Hid the alcohol well enough, so there must have been something flavoursome in there!

Not a great start to my evenings drinking, but it did make the next beer taste great (a John Martin Diabolici).

Bottle at Coriasso's, served in a trappist glass. Yellow colour, small head with short retention, almost no lacing. Aroma of citrics, with some cloves, bananas and coriander. Medium body, thin texture, flat carbonation. Citric finish. Taste is citrics, coriander, cloves, bananas, malt. Good.

Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
L- Deeper gold. Was pouring clear until it picked up some minor sediment at the end. 5mm snow white fine-bubble head. ps @ +10mins, the head holds amazingly well and forms huge lacing on the way down.
S- This has that subtle sense of sniffing the doorjamb outside a foxy maidens sleeping quarters. Subtle alluring perfume that promises great riches within. Mild spice notes follow...
T- Oh wow, that is a high-dive bang into mega Belgian yeast; spices and big fruity ester notes that linger on the tongue.
F- Wonderful balance between i) a really big meaty/ABV feel ii) a complex and broad-spectrum flavour that holds my interest/intrigue well iii) great carbonation in the glass (still), and in the mouth iv) sufficient bitter-hops to balance the whole.
O- This is a notably absolutely superb beer. It's one of those brews where it seemingly effortlessly impresses; it's like all the elements, all the stars, align just *exactly* right and it's a 1 in a 100+ surprise genuine joy. It's not simply because it's higher ABV% and impactful, gawd I've had scores much higher, it's the detail+balance here *despite* the higher ABV; that is really skilful brewing IME.
Review #1891/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the bottle lables to see what I missed! ==> 8% 'WBA Bronze medal', and another medal I don't recognise. No other info in English. I've zero surprise it got a WBA medal, this is a really special beer.

De Labirratorium. En copa Grimbergen. Con galletas tostarica. Jugando a Spiderman Miles Morales. Buena tripel, con agradables notas a pera y un feel agradable, sin que la sequedad típica del estilo moleste en ningún momento, resultando incluso fácil de beber a pesar de su elevado abv

Looks awesome in a tulip glass, hazy tripel style body with creamy head which retains reasonably well.

Aroma is fresh and fruity, peachy and a florally, very inviting.

Taste is malty with a touch of that refreshing peach. A hint of caramel sweetness too.

Feel is a touch dry, very alcoholic and is it's only chink.

Overall a great traditional tripel, defo a plus 4 beer.

I had two 0.33l bottles of this (€4.20) at Cafe 't Pothuiske in Maastricht on 22SEP16.... Best by DEC17...

It was a bright golden bier, with some haze. Had a creamy, off-white head, with slow, sparse carbo and OK lacing. Had some tropical fruit aromas along with a hint of toasty malt. Was medium bodied, and had some light, bubbly prickle on the tongue.

Flavor had some mild sweetness and crackery action to start. Also tasted some peach, pear and green apple, with some coriander and a hint of spicy, yeasty notes in the dry finish. Solid.
