Bottle: Poured a deep brown cloudy color ale with a big foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt with light spices. Taste is also dominated by some caramel malt notes with some spicy yeast elements also discernable. Full body with some great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad but more like a middle of the road Belgian ale slightly liking character.

This is one of the last Schelde beers in line, I had most of the others and this is one of my least favorite.

A murky brown beer with a creamy, collapsing head.

Smell is acidic, like an infection. The caramel and dark malts give the impression of cherries and the smell of a robust red wine. Some would call this Rodenbach like, but I don't think this is intentional (in this case).

Taste is acidic with cherries, a light dark chocolate and caramel taste make the beer pretty complex. Again the red wine-like taste that is not bad, but is not the way the beer should be.

This is my fourth infected beer in a row and I would like to see a 'clean' beer for a change.

I got this bottle for my 55th birthday from Roy. I know this brewery a bit. They are located very near the Dutch border on an industrial compound. Next to the brewery they have a big beershop.

Now about the beer. Poured in my small Struise glass the beers starts really nice....but only for a short while. The head disappears fast leaving a small ring. Dark tea like fluid. Smells a bit sour but that is something i did not get in the taste (happily!).

Taste is rather flat with hardly any hints. Very little sweetness. Next beer!

Brownish colour with a thin thread of white as opposed to some head. Some yeast aroma and alcohol. Medium plus mouthfeel, and understated carbonation. Like a brown beer with some yeast, or a so-so brune. Dry aftertaste, not unpleasant.Via Bieropholie buying club.

Purchased from the Beers of Europe, a quality online beer shop in the UK. This bottle is at only 6.5%abv., BB 06/2009, served lightly chilled in a large tulip-shaped wine glass.

A: pours a cloudy, dark (red-dates like) reddish brown hue, coming with a fast dissipating beige foam and mild carbonation.
S: pretty sweet pilsner and caramel malts on a par with fruit esters expanding in the air, backed by fragrant dates, sweet berry-fruits, a touch of nuts and mild chocolatey dark malts. Overall, as aromatic estery as malty on the balance but with a touch of sweet brown sugar too much.
T: sour-sweet caramel malts and red dates, estery spiciness as in Chinese red-bean paste, backed by a faint note of black cherry; slightly chewy in the aftertaste, showing a little powdery spiciness and very little hop bitterness, while a rather soothing and aromatic malty undertone lingers. I suppose the slightly richer powdery palate is attributed to the yeast sediments that refuse to stay in the bottle (any more)...
M&D: very soft on the carbonation, and medium-bodied, all's right on the palate... All in all, a pretty decent and reasonably tasty dark ale, with everything in control and nothing too surprising!

A - Pours a very dark brown with ruby highlights when held up to light. Huge beige head that slowly falls away. Massive patchy lacing.
S - Caramel sweetness with some dark fruit notes. Very slight smoke hint.
T - Pretty much along the same lines as the smell but with a cherry flavour coming through as well.
M - Medium bodied with a bit of a spritz feeling on the back of the tongue.
D - Wouldn't rush back to it but it's a good beer none the less.

'Nature beer, unfiltered and unpasteurized'. That's how I like it.

Dulle Griet, the nickname the town of Gent gave to their town's canon, says the label.
Dulle griet also translates to something like 'crazy girl'.

Dark red-brown ale, rather thin head, but decent lacing.

Smell and taste are malty and sweet. Hints of dark fruit and sugar. All in all a fairly standard dubbel.

Clean aftertaste. Bittersweetness that's gone quickly. Refreshing carbonation.

Well drinkable. It's a very traditional dubbel.
No complaints from me.

Enjoyed on 3/3/11 in an Snifter glass. Pours dark amber color. Crown is beige in color, dense & lasting. Malty aroma in nose, hops aromas not shown. Gentle & dry sweet flavor, almost non-exist bitterness. Coffee notes in mouth & subtle cocoa on the aftertaste, also oak hints are present. Medium body, easy drinkability.

Pours a nice medium tan head, dissipates over a minute or two, but leaves a good lace and film. Colour is a quite dark reddish brown, active carbonation.

Smell is quite light and lively. Has a strong fruity and phenolic character, lots of crisp bitter apples, light red wine vinegar, dark roasted malt, hops are light.

Taste is initially malty, with a good apple fruitiness. Light spiciness, and for the dark malt character remains very refreshing. A slight sourness develops. Not bad for sure, but in terms of complexity it falls a bit sort of the better examples. Hops are pretty light, the whole thing could be tied together a bit tighter.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and very smooth, a bit creamy. Quite drinkable and lively on the palate. After taste is quite short, creamy.

Its a good beer, and worth trying. Pretty light for the style. Refreshing and easy-drinking, but not as earth-shaking as other examples. Good brew though, I'd have it again.
