Visited this restaurant in Peterborough while visiting family in early August. Servers were busy and the establishment was quite full on a Tuesday night. I enjoyed a flight including Rodenbach Grand Cru, LaTrappe Quad, De Konnick and Delirium Tremens. Followed that up with another glass of Delirium. Lots of options to choose from, especially Belgians, and a nice bottles election of Belgians as well with Rochefort and Duvel available. Prices weren't cheap but not outrageous either and better than other larger chain restaurants that also serve these caliber of beers.

Service was friendly and while not overly quick the food made up for that. A shared cheese platter was a good investment with 3 decent sized wedges of cheese and a plethora of fixings. Family enjoyed the deal on mussels and frites on Tuesdays which was a great buy as it was half off on Tuesdays. Rather enjoyed the steak pot pie, but would certainly try something else next time. Portion sizes were generous and sufficiently filling. Would recommend anyone who enjoys good pub food with a Belgian twist and a fine selection of beers.

This establishment is really quite a gem in Peterborough. An old bank building with wonderful woodwork, trim, and original artifacts (old bank vault, teller windows, etc.) that have been well preserved. A pretty mixed crowd age-wise, perhaps leaning towards the younger 30-something group. Separate bar area that's always busy.

A fairly varied selection of primarily belgian offerings, with a few Ontario based brews for good measure. The standard belgian /LCBO offerings found throughout Ontario, but St. Veronus typically seems to highlight a unique belgian brewery with products offered that likely can't be found elsewhere (Brouwerij De Dolle Brouwers last time I was there), and certainly not in and around Peterborough.

Service is always prompt and professional, with staff that appear to know a thing or two about their offerings. Food is really quite good, with tasty mussel dishes and quite a vast nightly specials list. Haven't been disappointed on the food front yet. Respectable prices for what you get foodwise, and quite fair prices with respect to imported beer.

If you're in Peterborough definitely worth checking out- especially if you're into belgians and good food.

In my narrow range of experience, St. Veronus represents Ontario's best balance of eclectic/international beer selection and, very importantly to me, price. This combination is a particular treat when one considers that the establishment is not located in either of Ontario's larger, more metropolitan cities (Ottawa, Toronto), but rather a smaller, working-class / University town - Peterborough.

Many rare Belgian beers are featured both on tap and by the bottle, as well as several Canadian and International brews. Unlike many beer bistros (I'm looking at you Smokeless Joe), most beers are poured into their proprietary glassware, and served, when possible, on a proprietary coaster, such attention to detail, in my opinion, helps justify the premium prices (though most are still priced reasonably, particularly the draft beers and the special order bottles that one could never hope to find at the LCBO (Ontario's government outlet)).

St. Veronus also has a full lunch and dinner menu. Be warned, the food tends to be on the heavy side. Sandwiches represent the best value, with many under twelve dollars (with salad and Belgian mashed potatoes).

stopped in this afternoon for a late lunch and a beer.

as you enter the front door you have two choices: on the right is a small room with tables and booths that would seat about 20 or so people, and on the left is a larger room with seating for about 30. the larger room has tables and booths around the outside and a smaller mostly enclosed bar area. lots of wood, with wood and stone outer walls. it has a comfortable and slightly rustic feel that i quite enjoyed.

the quality of everything served was definitely top notch.

service was excellent too. our waiter was well informed about the day's specials as well as which items from the beer menu were and were not available. he was happy to make suggestions and even helped some other less beer-savvy customers find something to their liking.

the selection was good. a decent spectrum of belgian offerings and a couple of local micros. while not the most comprehensive beer menu that i've seen, i thought it was pretty good for a city of the size of peterborough. sadly, my first 3 bottled beer choices were unavailable (rochefort 10 and 8 and tripel karmeliet), but the st bernardus abt 12 worked quite well.

the food was nothing short of exceptional. you could tell that a lot of time and care had gone into everything. from the fondue that we started with to the angus burger and ceasar salad that i had and the chicken salad sandwich and ceasar salad my wife had, each item was excellent. gourmet quality foods that seemed to be free of any pretention. excellent portion sizes too - we both left very full and with leftovers.

i thought the prices were quite reasonable. most of the beer seemed to be similar or cheaper than when i've seen it around toronto. the food was also well priced.

overall we were very happy with our meal and look forward to visiting again. this is worth the little over an hour drive and a great excuse to get out of the city and enjoy the fall colours. already looking for another excuse to go back.

I was there just for the beer. They have an excellent selection, and the bartender/owner is extremely knowledgeable. Had a great chat and some good beer. My glass (large chalice style) had a flaw in the stem, and they were going to throw it out, but when I asked, they gave it to me. As long as I don't get rough with it, it should give me long service. I recommend this place to anyone who wants a Belgian beer adventure. Location is right downtown in an old bank building, easy access. And if Belgian is not your style, just go a couple of doors down the street to the Olde Stone Brewery. One can do a decent pub crawl in Peterborough.

Cozy little spot just off the main drag in downtown Peterborough. Not a ton of seats, so reserve or come during off hours. Last I was by they were looking at expanding, so the situation will change and it'll be cause of re-review. No AC in the summer so dress for comfort.

Selection of basic Belgian beers on tap. Moderately sized list of Belgians representing many of the mainstay beers of Belgium. That's their primary focus. A couple of interesting local breweries represented, too (Churchkey, Wellington).

Menu is fun and interesting. The chef clearly enjoys what she does and makes agood job of it. Theme is European and beer is used in many offerings. Good use of local some quality foodstuffs, as well.

Great spot to take someone to introduce them to proper beer.
