Notes: This West Coast Double IPA is loaded with Columbus, Ekuanot, and Simcoe hops that display mouthwatering aromas of papaya, pineapple, and hints of pine. The bitterness is prominent, but is nicely balanced with a generous malty backbone that is laced with a touch of sweetness. Come let The Westy take you for a ride!

this was definitely my least favorite of the hoppy beers, and maybe all the beers i had in here. they are making some great stuff, but this one remains a work in progress it seems, at least i hope so, as its just a little sloppy and amateurish to me, unlike the rest of them, maybe its just over hopped. there is some hazy to this, a little crystal malt tone to the color, and a good frothy creamy white head from the tap there at the brewery. the aroma is fine, smells really simcoe forward to me with lots of grapefruit flesh and zest, and a lot of bitterness it seems, green and a little sharp, some balancing baked sweetness from the grain too, but this really is intense on the hop side. i notice the texture before the taste when i start drinking it, its amazingly creamy and frothy, gorgeously soft and expansive, easily the highlight of this beer for me, awesome achievement even in an otherwise lackluster brew. its very green and vegetal to me, broccoli and beans with the obvious simcoe character, fresh sure, but almost too much so, and this really needs some dialing in. it feels quite filling because the flavor never recedes from the tongue, even on the swallow, its like always intense, even between sips, and i am slow to drink my pint. i also think its a little sweeter than it needs to be on the grain side, but also has some exposed alcohol, any more of either would be too much. overall just not quite up to the level of their other hoppy beers, which i thought were quite good. im sure it will improve next time they brew it up...
