Some misleading info going on tonight, BA’s... And with this one, the can says that it’s an Imperial Red Ale, where BA lists it as an American Dark Wheat Ale - a style in rich Raul has never even heard of before. Anyway, like Raul always says, what does it matter what they call it, if there is junk in the trunk? Question here is, does Dirty Hippie have an apple bottom? And the quick answer is no. No sir whatsoever. Straight up, Raul has never smelled a beer like this; it straight up smells like food. Like someone baked a lean cuisine and liquified it. So Raul isn’t into that. Taste? Not as bad as the smell, but Raul still ain’t pleased. To be honest, I can’t go on. This is pretty rank. Peace!

12 oz. Bottle

Pours a pretty nice clean/clear yellow color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger off-white head, which leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, slight malty, grassy. The taste is hoppy, kinda malty, grassy/wheaty. Medium body. Overall, a tasty brew.

22oz bottle served in a large mug. Stopped pouring when I saw large amounts of sediment flowing, so I definitely got some in my glass. I don't see a date on the bottle right now. Bought at Jane's in Sunnyvale, flown home in my suitcase.

Pours a murky reddish brown with a smallish white head and lots of carbonation. Smell is old hay, caramel, a little nutty.

Taste is old hay -- tastes like old hops. I wish there was a date on the bottle. Musty, nutty, very slight toffee.

Mouthfeel is thick but not too sticky. Overall, not bad, but not that good.

I would mostly like to point out that this beer is not a Dunkelweizen, but a dark American wheat ale. I was just talking to Danny (the brewer) today and, while the recipe is very similar to a Dunkel, the yeast is not an appropriate strain to create that style. The origin of this beer is actually based on not having the right yeast strain, but already having the beer at the mash stage as that fact was discovered.

Big light tan head slowly settle into a nice lacing above a clear copperish amber colored beer.

Well but lightly roasted grain malt accented with light hops in the aroma of this beer.

Lightly roasted caramel malts seem to dominate the taste with a little bit of the hops sneaking in seemingly as an afterthought.

A slightly dryishness on a somewhat wet aftertaste without much of the caramel malts remaining with this medium bodied affair.

The caramel malts almost seem to be on the slightly burnt edge but they are still quite light with this beer making have a lighter taste than I would have thought .

A - Clear copper-brown.

S - Slightly sweet, but nothing that grabs attention.

T - Mild hop flavor mixed with hints of chocolate malt and brown sugar.

M - Not much viscosity. Doesn't linger long on the tongue.

Overall - Drinkable, sessionable, but not unique or outstanding.
