Pours a clear somewhat light apple juice color with minimal white head, some carbonation, and no sign of sediment.

Has a slight fruity hop smell of pine with some caramel malt aroma in the background.

Has a well balanced taste of caramel malt some fruity hop esters of mainly grapefruit with a hint of a chalk finish.

Medium bodied, resinous feel, with lively crisp carbonation.

A bargain session IPA, for the price at TJs, that is crisp with adequate fruit and caramel malt. A good transitional craft beer, for macro hypers, that can be bought for $1 a bottle. Try this one, the price is right.

Orangutan orange with bright pumpkin edges and almost three fingers of sandstone colored cream. The head hangs around in impressive fashion and does a pretty good job decorating the glass with small scraps of sticky suds.

The aroma is American hop citrus fruity. It smells pale malt dominant with a small assist from caramel. More power would have been good, but this is shaping up to be a fine version of the style if the flavor follows suit.

Mission St. India Pale Ale is tasty beer at a price that can't be beat. $1 singles at Trader Joe's translates to... can't find calculator... uses fingers... $6 sixers. Generous ingredients is always good in beer that doesn't require a bank loan to enjoy.

There's a little too much caramel-toasted malt running interference on the hop love, but that's more personal preference than a flaw per se. Hard to say on the hop bill. At least one of them starts with the letter 'C' and adds a moderate amount of white grapefruit juiciness. Balance is the watchword here.

Like the ABV, the mouthfeel is roughly midway between APA and IPA. Thankfully, it falls close enought to the latter to earn the higher score. Excellent hang-on and faultless bubbles definitely help the cause.

In terms of overall quality and drinkability, Mission St. India Pale Ale is right in line with the rest of the Mission St. brews from TJs. In other words, it's solid beer at a rock-solid price. Sometimes that's enough.

Mission St. IPA has a thin, cream-colored head, a mostly clear, somewhat bubbly, orange appearance, and a little bit of lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of piney hop resin, and the flavor is of that, plus sweet white bread. Bitterness is moderate. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and Mission St. IPA finishes semi-dry, easy drinking, and refreshing.

A - Pours a translucent golden color. Nice and golden honey looking, but completely see through. A slightly agressive pour resulted in a solid finger's worth of a white head that quickly disappeared. Beautiful lacing all the way through.

S - Nice hop smell and with a clear malt presence. Very small hints of pine, more smells of ripe citrus.

T - The taste reveals much more piney hops then the smell would lead you to believe. The flavor is nice, but not very strong, and as quickly as you take it in, it is gone. The aftertaste is nice and bitter with a slight drying effect. Nice pine resins on the back of the tongue.

M - Medium bodied beer with moderate to low carbonation. This is not a DIPA, so I feel this is slightly under carbonated. With a medium body beer I would like to have a bit more carbonation.

D - This is solid representation of an American IPA. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to turn away either. This beers hits the spot, without being overwhelming, and the price can't be beat: $5.99 + tax.

Purchased at Trader Joe's. $6.99 for a 6-pack. Poured into pint glass. Another fun fact: this beer is brewed by Firestone Walker.

A: Clear orange color with a fizzy one-finger white head. Recedes into white crown. Lacing is pretty good.

S: Has a really fresh flowery and fruity hop smell. There's a nice undertone of fairly heavy malt, as well.

T: Again, the taste is very flowery and fruity. It's not bitter at all, but it's not a sugar bomb. This is honestly quite a good taste for an IPA. The caramel malt sufficiently balances the nice flow of hop flavors. Ends with a bit of a nutty grain flavor. Again...not bitter. You get all of the hop flavors with minimal bitterness. The taste profile makes this beer a prime candidate for introducing BMC drinkers to IPAs.

M: Wet. Medium. A bit creamy and prickly. Pretty standard IPA.

O: To be really honest, this beer has a very similar hop profile to Hopslam. There's a nice fruity hop presence along with some of the depth of other hop characteristics. Obviously it's less powerful and has less alcohol, but the profile is comparable.

For about $1 each, this one cannot be beat. If you slap a RR, Founders, or some other high-profile brewery's label on it, you'd be paying at LEAST double. This can easily stand up against the big hitters in the IPA category....just look past the TJ label (this would a be a silent killer in a blind taste test.) There's no reason not to buy this when looking for a drinkable, flavorful IPA.

A nice bonus: since Trader Joe's is the main carrier of this beer (at least as far as I've seen,) you're pretty much guaranteed a fresh product. TJ's is amazing at rotating stock and is not subject to the typical bullshit-ery that some beer stores pull....

Bottle at Trader Joe's - Cincy.

Poured a clear copper color with an average creamy off-white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate citrus, earthy hop and small malt aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration.

My expectations where met and this beer is at a Trader Joes price.

bottle is dated 11/18/08
pours a golden amber with a fairly meager head. moderate lacing.
aroma is a nice pine-y fresh spring breeze. very clean and crisp.
taste is nice, if not understated. a very mild flavor, with pine and grass notes up front with a little citrus on the finish, low bitterness. definitely not the tongue scorching IPA that seems so prevalent these days.
medium body with mild carbonation, easy to drink.
the price is also low, which gives it higher marks in general.

Picked up for $6 a sixpack at Trader Joe's

Appearance: Pours hazy amber with nice white fluffy head.

Smell: There's a little bit of everything in here, some citrus notes (mainly grapefruit/orange) along with hints of resinous pine and even a touch of some other fruit, maybe mango.

Taste: Same nice flavor profile that washes with a nice little bitter kick, also some malty sweetness prevalent toward the finish the finish is clean.

Mouthfeel: A little bit sticky but fairly clean to the tongue, body is light to medium.

Drinkability: IMO, for the price there really isn't anything better out there. This brew is very drinkable, has tons of flavor, and goes great with any food that's hugely flavorful (which trader joe's has a ton of). Pick this and stay away from that kennebunkport IPA that has no flavor at all.

(copied from RB) Lots of flavor (bitter) in this beer. I had this side-by-side with a Mission St. Pale Ale, and I liked the stronger, bitter flavor in the IPA better: big surprise. This is a solid IPA.

Purchased from Trader Joe's in Westfield, NJ; the only TJs in the state that has a liquor license

A - White head, sporadic lacing, pours a very clear orange colour
S - Flowers are the only thing to come out at first
T - Flowers, along with a fruity undertone, hopped enough for IPA standards, but not too far hopped
M - Flowery taste still in my mouth
D - A very good intro IPA, ate with vegetarian corn dogs

Big disappointment. Glass: large wine glass. The "new" Mission IPA is now brewed by Four + Brewing in Salt Lake City. Thin, almost flavorless. Where are the Hops? Abv down to 5.8. Price for 6 pack $6.99. It was pretty decent at $4.99 a 6 pack when Firestone was brewing it.

A- Not much head, but nice delicate lacing on the class and floating on top. Bright bronze in color.

S- I think this is the best part. My girl (not really a beer drinker) said that it smelled like strawberrys. I can see that a little, but I get more of a bright citrus/pine thing going on, with a hint of sweetness... very nice.

T- Slight sweetness with mostly a citus hoppy flavor. But what I really like about it is that it doesn't kick you in the face with bitterness. There is enough to support the flavor and give it a back bone, but it doesn't cling to your tounge or blast all of the other flavors away.

M- Light and a little dry. Its nice compared to other sticky feeling IPAs.

D- I could put down quite a few of these easily. This is the second time I have bought this beer and it wont be the last.
