Purchased at local coop grocery in a 500 ml can. Prompted by the label that differs from pictured and which said No.1 Premium Beer Brand in Germany, although the Since 1803 part says they are a relative newcomer over here. Conjures visions of Oktoberfest in Munich. One finger head dissipates to moderate lacing. Taste is typically pilsner with moderate carbonation. A light beer but not watery. Might be good on a picnic on a hot summer day, but it's cloudy and only 68 F here today. Makes me wish for my old standby Berghoff Lager from Chicago.

There are a lot of US craft breweries making pils (Firestone, Lagunitas, Oskar Blues, etc) and usually they end up tasting way too hoppy - almost a lager/ipa mashup beer and not a true Pilsner. The Krombacher is true to the style without over doing the hops. Taste is clean, bright, slightly bitter - almost pepper note in the finish. Good carbonation, balanced malt on the front. A great pilsner - a must try if you can get it.

I approached this beer on a very hot day that found me wanting a very light beer to cool off a bit, so when I saw this on the menu I had to get it. This German Pilsener features a very bright, white head that is frothy in appearance and dissipates nice and slowly to a whispy lacing. The beer itself is straw in color, bordering on light golden, and clear with moderate carbonation readily visible in the form of small bubbles rising quickly toward the surface. 4/5 The aroma is very simple but appealing with notes of buttered white bread, black pepper, lemon, cracker, and a very clean smelling ho profile. Definitely typical of the german pilsener style here. The aroma is not overly strong but the notes listed above are easily noticeable. 3.5/5 On the tongue, a very light caramel sweetness comes out right away but the beer quickly transitions away from this in favor of a grainy sweetness along with buttered white bread and cracker really coming out. This graininess also quickly goes away with the hops taking over the remainder of the flavor profile. Peppery spiciness, lemon, and grass all form a significant hop bill that is very clean and refreshing. There is some bitterness but not a crazy amount, with just a bit lingering upon swallowing. 3.75/5 Very light and crisp mouthfeel that features a light carbonation burn up front that goes away rather quickly. Almost a bit watery at times unfortunately. Moderate dryness with a bit of dryness lingering after swallowing. 3.25/5 Simple and flavorful, this beer is very refreshing. Hop forward and somewhat dry, typical of the german pilsener style. This one fits the bill nicely on hot days. 3.5/5

Served cold from 500ml brown bottle into straight pilsner mug.

L) Bright golden colour, clear, decent fluffy white head. Lots of small bubbles rising. Typical for the style, a good example.

S) Strong odour for a cold beer, strong bready malts.

T) Follows the odour, bready lager malt flavour dominates over hops. There is a bit of hop bitterness but quite light for a German pils.

F) Very easy drinking, no bitterness on the aftertaste, mild carbonation means no gassiness.

O) Very easy drinking pils, can't fault it and not expensive. Can't go wrong.

Thought this was a pretty good German pilsner. Pours a bright yellow with a decent foam head. Aroma was a subtle citrus, while taste balanced hops and malt characteristics quite well. Nothing overwhelming in terms of flavor or character. Just a well-executed pils that you could easily drink while still getting a rewarding experience.
