The name ‘New Beehive Inn’, undersells this establishment. It’s not “new” at all. If you arrive at the Bradford Interchange (the Bus/Train Station menagerie), then the Beehive is only a short, but uphill, walk - maybe 10 minutes at the most, but it is well worth the slog. If you arrive at the second of Bradford’s Railway Stations (Forster Square) – then it’s even closer!

Built in 1901, this Edwardian, gaslit multi-roomed genuine Free-House is a wonder to behold, mainly from the inside. But a lovely stain glassed canopy which covers the entrance hints at the marvels inside.

The unspoilt & unchanged interior offers a genuine glimpse of the past. Even the lovely mosaic tiled floor of the entrance cum drinking hallway exudes quality. Rooms to the left, right & back are expansive. Rooms on the floor below are dedicated to the nightlife & are large enough to cater for bands, as they often do. But it is the Bar area to your right as you enter from the street that demands your attention. It is totally genuine, & a sight to behold. A massive leviathan of carved wood & glasswork, it has many Handpumps (12!), selling Guest & Regular beers. The regulars always include the excellent Taylors Landlord & one from the nearby Salamander Brewery. Also has 100+ Single Malts. The picture above the huge fireplace is genuine! As a Hotel, it does offer accommodation, but as a Pub it offers a genuine warm invitation to spend the day here– as I often did.

The New Beehive Inn has a rare & unspoilt pub interior of outstanding historic interest. 5 Gas-Lit Rooms no less. It is also on the CAMRA National Inventory of Heritage pubs. It also sells a good range of cask beers as well. If you ever get here - enjoy a real piece of history!

Hot & Cold Lunches 12-2, but if you are hungry after all that beer, & fancy some good Asian cuisine, leave the New Beehive by the front entrance, turn right, walk past the frontage, then turn right again – & you will see the “Sheesh Mahal” on St. Thomas Road – Oh yeah, one of Bradford’s BEST Asian Curry Houses that also gives a 10% discount for CAMRA Card Carrying Members!!! Hell Yeah.

During my last year in the UK, I often came here on Monday afternoons with my then girlfriend Angie & her Dad, who was a big fan of Real Ale (& with whom I kept in touch with even after splitting up with his daughter!!). A great Pub. You can also easily get to both Haigy’s & the Melborn (see BeerFly) from here.

The New Beehive Inn- What a Gem. Happy Days!
