Pours a caramelly-cola color. Malty-sweet smell, with a off-putting “musty car” note. Cloying and syrupy.

Good lord this was bad. I guess I don’t have much more to add to this review right now.

This was poured into a pilsner flute from the bottle.

A - deep, dark, transparent amber color with a decent head that settles quickly into a lacing

S - diacetyl and green apple; roasted grain in the background

T - mellow roasted character with yeast off-flavors on the finish

M - light to medium body with moderately high carbonation

D - very disappointing, their pilsner is quite nice, this is a let down

Dark but transparent, the color is not SO deep. Ephemere head.

Smells nice - malts and all thing aromatic, can be described as 'perfumed beer'.

Taste is not bad, but rather thin for a brew with relatively high alcohol content. Bitterness seems artificial, malty tones are generally OK. Aftertaste - bitter.

Not a bad try, but needs improvement.

A - Cola dark brown with a prodigious three finger khaki head of rocky and pitted foam. Lots of really nice sticky lace is left on the glass. This is clear and dark nut-brown...the color of chestnut wood varnish. Head retention is nice; it stays at a good 1/2 inch cap for the duration.

S - Musty, mineral laden, and funky. Like a dirty nickle soaked in Heineken. This smells like a beer bottle cap off of a brown ale. definitely has that cheapo Euro dark lager note.

T - Slightly tangy notes over a slightly nutty and roasted base. Nowhere near as bad I I expected from the nose. Light maple syrup and almond.

M - Light, semi-dry, and lightly carbonated but prickly on the tongue. Seems far too thin for the relatively high ABV.

D - Pretty much average. Good? No. But it's not bad either. Bland I would call it.

Another beer another Efes. Does anyone else make beer in Turkey?

A: Pours a nice nutty brown hue. Very light cream colored head. No retention or lace.

S: Aromas are malt laden. Mostly caramel malt with light notes of chocolate and brown sugar.

T: Nice sweet malty flavor as well. Mostly caramel, with hints of dark molasses. Hints of dark fruit and chocolate hide beneath.

M: On the lighter side, okay carbonation.

D: Not bad. Lots of pretty good flavors, they don't seem to come together to create a good beer though.

The first beer I had at my pool bar while on holiday in Ovacik (Turkey).

33cl brown bottle, poured into an Efes half pint glass (one and a half times).

Tasteless, odourless and no body, slight malt hints but weak throughout. The beer was very cold, the sun was very hot, I needed a drink, this didn't work.

The first and worst beer I had on the hot holiday trip 2010.

From the aft-forementioned 'beers of the world' section of a local 'Hat liquor store. Asked the cashier if anyone had tried this beer..."no sir, you are the first". Alrighty then...

Marketed as a dark beer and in appearance it lives up to that billing as it was a very rich, cherry-hued brown. Managed a 2.5 finger head that was tan, bubbly, and receded somewhat quickly to a ring. Minimal lacing for you lacing fans out there.

Caramel malt is one of the ingredients and lo-and-behold you can easily pick that up in the aroma. Almost a sweet raisin smell with the floral hop was also noted.

Certainly has a strong malt backbone with the caramel malt taking it's rightful place in the lead with some nice hop providing interest in the background. A hint of metallicness keeps me from scoring it higher. Great malt aftertaste with a hint of choclate and raisins.

Smoother than I would have guessed given the ABV...fairly light in body, maybe a touch on the watery side..still very smooth and easy drinking here.

Will have to tell the cashier Lady to keep stocking this one.

Pours dark with some light passing through. Nose is dirty. Seems almost rotten in a way. Flavor is pretty decent. Smooth sweet tone with a minor earthy edge (that is kind of like dirtier water). Feel is kind of thin on liquid with a decent carbonation. Easy to drink, but not as smooth as you'd want really. Nice to try. Nice to move on.

A: The beer is clear but a very dark reddish brown in color. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that died down very rapidly leaving some lacing on the surface and a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: There are light aromas of dark malts and sweetness in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste is slightly sweet and has flavors of dark malts with notes of burnt caramel and molasses. The latter two flavors particularly linger though the finish.
M: It feels light-bodied and a bit watery on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is rather easy to drink and has a nice amount of flavors.

This beer pours a brilliantly clear dark brown with a surprisingly large rocky head that fades rather quickly. The bubbles are tan and smallish. Aroma wise I get a faint graininess and stinky cabbage along with a touch of roast. The beer is thin and lifeless with a slight toasted note but it finishes very dry in the back of the palate, not a pleasing dry but borderline astringent. No hop aroma, flavor, and just the slightest hint of bittering. Not an appealing beer at all. I would not recommend it.

Kind of a pretty nut brown, actually, with minimal head, and it smells a little bit like candy with all the caramel.

The taste has some complexity with tangy malts over darker malts, even a little bit of a porter taste, but over half a liter it starts to feel sloppy and I've never found myself wanting a second one.

The mouthfeel is pretty light, zingy carbonation, very refreshing, so points for that. A nice Efes option for beer geeks in Turkey who want something maltier.

Poured from the 330ml bottle into a tall pils glass.

A: The beer is dark brown, flat cola looking, little carbonation visible. Head is light tan and 3 fingers thick.

S: Smells strange, but aroma is overall very faint. Clear bottle may have cause the beer to be lightstruck/skunked smell. Grass. Some roasted malts. Light hint of dark bread.

T: Intro is light with grainy notes.turning smooth and somewhat malty in the midpalate. Molasses. Finish is roasted malt, and maybe pumpernickel. Toast. As the beer warms it becomes a bit more astringent, though still ok.

Mouthfeel: Average. Smooth. Carbonation is evident but not cloying.

Drinkability: An easy drinking beer that has a good taste to it, thought the clear glass bottle puts one off the smell. For now.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is heavy on the malt with some toffee and a little bit of grass from the hops. The flavor is equally malty. I get some cocoa and toasted malt, as well as some toffee and a little bit of grass. Thin to medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not bad, but nothing special.

Cross off another country from the list which I've tried a beer from. Efes Dark comes in a clear 330 ml bottle and has a twist-off top. On to the beer:

No false advertising, as this beer is dark colored. Cherrywood brown and topped with a thin head which has okay retention, but it leaves a checkerboard of dotted lace around the glass. Oooo, that has a stinky aroma. The base malt is pleasantly sweet, but is ruined by herbal skunked hops.

With some luck, the taste is decent. It starts reasonably sweet like a dunkel lager and for a moment, I thought that it could climb higher. Those hops, agghh, they're not exactly in good form. It gives the beer a sulfur note, along with the added skunkiness. Adding to injury is the beer's slick feel in the mouth which sticks around.

Efes could have been on the verge of being a surprise if it were in prime condition. Clear glass is usually not a beer's friend, more so in the sunny climate of Turkey.

500ml can, 6.1% ABV, with a nasty-looking, I'm gonna say, ocelot, poised to strike on the label.

This beer pours a clear, dark reddish cola hue, with three fingers of puffy, densely foamy, and bubbly beige head, which settles at pace, leaving a decent layered wall of lace around the glass in its wake.

It smells of semi-sweet roasted, grainy, and bready malt, a touch of toffee, some general black fruitiness, over-steeped tea, a metallic flintiness, and some soft weedy, dead floral hops. The taste is more sweet bready malt, mild bittersweet chocolate, a bit of oily nuttiness, middling, somewhat sour dark fruit - in the form of children's cough syrup - some persistent wet steeliness, and earthy, weedy hops.

The carbonation is fairly low, in a thinly frothy sort of manner, the body medium-light in weight, a bit watery, and yet generally smooth. It finishes still mostly sweet, but tempered well enough by an adequate drying alcohol and toasted grainy malt offset.

A surprisingly quaffable, if not particularly memorable strong-ish dark lager, reminiscent at times of a low-grade dunkel. On the sweet side overall, but balanced to the point where my palate essentially just doesn't give a flying fuck, despite what my brain is telling it.

Pours a dark ruddy-brown color with little head but a nice ring of lacing to coat the glass.
Smell was...interesting. Like roasted malts with a cola backing. Fairly sweet, with a twinge of something else, like wood.
Sweet & sour flavors...dark roasted malt sweetness with a sour hop backing. Again, the flavors of cola and woodiness come through. Buttery aftertaste; noticeable alcohol kicks around in the back of the throat.
Mouthfeel was a bit thin, but the bitterness from the hops (and cola-like malts) do give it a bit of kick.

This was a different experience from a country I generally don't associate with beer, which is why I tried it. I like some of the ideas going into it, but the variety of components are a bit too much and it feels unbalanced and a bit unpleasant.

A: Pours a clear dark amber to medium brown in color with some light amounts of visible carbonation near the surface of the beer. The beer has a quarter finger tall off-white head that almost instantly reduces to a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: The aroma is sweet and malty with hints of burnt sugar, caramel, and molasses. There is almost a little hint of nuttiness.

T: The flavor of this beer is mild with some light sweet malts - there are hints of caramel and molasses.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation.

O: The flavor of this beer almost reminds me of an English mild but a little sweeter. This beer is enjoyable and easy to drink, might be a little too high ABV to be sessionable but definitely one I would have again.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a brown color and a hazy consistency. There was an inch and a half of foamy head that lasted a fair amount of time. Good lacing.

S: A somewhat muted aroma of malt and light hops. Nothing special.

T: Tasted of roasted malt, a nutty quality that seemed to vanish somehow, and hops. As it is with these types of beer, the major problem is that they're very thin and watery. The flavor here is just that.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Light-bodied.

O: This is a pretty forgettable beer. That being said, the Euro Dark Lager style does not lend itself to greatness.

Good beer.

Tastes of a generic dark beer. Lots of malts, good mix with spices. Smokey flavor with a lot of caramel mixed in. Reminded me of another beer that I had, couldnt put my finger on it. I would recommend it to try, I was happy with one. Wouldnt go as far as a six pack..

Efes beers are pretty much the only ones you can get in Turkey. Beer culture is obviously not a big component in this country, but this beer in particular makes Miller light seem drinkable. Quite simply even for its style profile, its boring, bland, under-carbonated, and doesn't feel right.
