Dos Equis Ambar (Amber) is a vienna style lager that was originally brewed by the German-born Mexican brewer Wilhelm Hasse in 1897.
The brand was named "Siglo XX" ("20th century") to commemorate the arrival of the new century, and the bottles were marked with the Roman numerals "XX", or "Dos Equis" (two X).

Actually really good beer on draft in a Mex restaurant but this one I just had from a 12 oz bottle was average at best in terms of having any quality craftsmanship at all. Tasted of corn and adjuncts so very average.

I don't often drink beer in Mexican restaurants, but when I do... you know the rest. Served in a 12-ounce bottle with a wedge of lime, then transferred to a frosted mug. Deep amber hue, with a finger of off-white head. Enjoyed with a spicy steak burrito, which did not afford much of an opportunity to appreciate the nuances. That said, this is a damn good Vienna lager. Malt forward, with some nice herbal and spicy hop notes. Clean and crisp, perfect counterpoint to the Mexican food. Stay thirsty, my friends!

Appearance: Clear dark amber. Fluffy off white head with moderate retention.
Aroma: Spicy/herbal hops. Bready, toasted malts.
Flavor: Spicy, bready and toasty. Restrained bitterness. Medium sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, no astringency, Soft. Medium carbonation. Short finish.
Overall: A decent Vienna Lager style from Mexico. Aromas and flavors are very mild but present. It's sweet but not cloying. Drinks nice and easy. A step up from most Pale Lagers from Mexico.

I had heard people praising the Dos Equis Ambar Especial over the Dos Equis Lager Especial, however I found myself liking the Lager Especial more. It’s an okay cerveza, I picked up a subtle taste of a cigar or tobacco flavor when drinking it, but I’m also really bad at beer reviews, so who knows? Lol

12oz bottle. Bottle has a marking of 'VG3600103'.
Clear, medium amber colored body. Off white head with ring. Leaves behind some trellises of lacing.
Aroma is faint but there is the smell of grains and also a citrus note.
Taste is dark toasted malts, caramel, and a minor lime note. Very beer-like, without a stand out flavor note.
Heavier mouth feel. Dry finish. Very good carbonation.
Solid mouth feel, and unobtrusive nose and taste. Very good pairing with spicy food.

12oz bottle
Pours only a small finger of head into a tumbler. Retention is poor and the head fades very quickly. Lacing is also somewhat poor. Body is a very dark amber, nearly brown; pretty color.
Nose is caramel, toffee, nutty, and even some estery stone fruit. This has just the slightest hint of extract, but overall it actually smells really nice and authentic.
Flavor is smaller, but most of the key parts show up. Definitely some slightly tart stone fruit, toffee, nutty, not too much caramel. Tastes pretty good at first, gets waterier over time.
Carbonation is absurdly high. Body is pretty light. Bitterness is low. Touch of sweetness, but finishes clean. A decent mouthfeel, carbonation is probably too high for the style.
Drinkability is pretty good.
Overall this starts out pretty flavorful, but oddly fades over time. Ok.
