Notes: Dos Equis Ambar (Amber) is a vienna style lager that was originally brewed by the German-born Mexican brewer Wilhelm Hasse in 1897.

The brand was named "Siglo XX" ("20th century") to commemorate the arrival of the new century, and the bottles were marked with the Roman numerals "XX", or "Dos Equis" (two X).

A: The beer is clear coppery amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin white head that never faded away and left lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: There are aromas of corn in the nose along with notes of caramel and toasted malts.
T: The taste is a little better than the smell because the corn aromas are subdued; there are flavors of toasted and caramel malts along with some hints of malty sweetness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and somewhat smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The beer certainly looks like a Vienna Lager but does not really smell like one, having more of a resemblance to that of an adjunct lager.

Had this at Hooters tonight, because well, there was a decent selection for Hooters, about 40 beers, but this was the only one I had never had, so that was reason enough for me. Pored a golden amber, with a slight reddish hue. A big fizzy white head graced the top and faded quickly leaving behind a decent little top of film, and some residual lacing for a minute or two. Nice carbonation was evident from the start. Smell was very light, practically non existent here. What was there was maybe some kinda light grain, but it was really faint, maybe a touch of some kind of bready yeast..The taste was rather blah and non descript. Your typical amber lager really. Lots of malt, no hops, and a touch of grain, thats about it. Pretty good mouthfeel as the carbonation kept things pretty lively on the palate, and it went down very smooth, with a quick, crisp finish. Very clean. Drinkability was above average, as very cold this was one that you could throw down a ton of. Overall I have had muc worse, and for a macro, not actually half bad. Went pretty damn well with dinner. I would definatly have one again, though I wouldn't put a sixer in my fridge

This beer has an appealing color and a nice head. It has more of a taste character than many lagers, but it's nothing special. Still there's nothing negative lingering on the tongue, which is good.

Pours an amber color with a thin head with decent retention. Smell is malty with a little pine hops. Taste follows, mostly malt with some mild pine flavor and bite. Medium body. Okay beer, certainly drinkable.

Not bad for this country. That is drinkable with some taste. Nice foam in pour and amber colour. Works as a Vienna. Smooth drink with significant malt. Light mouthfeel, mild bitter aftertaste. Would work with spicy food. From broken sixpacks at LCBO.

Looks to have a beautiful amber, golden-baked-brown color -- crystal clear. Nice beige-pink head that slowly fades to a nice little lace.
Smells subtle. Earthy. Something sweet, like ripe pomegranates.
Taste, I must say, was a little disappointing at first, but the more slowly I drank it, the more nuance I could pick out. Sour is the dominant taste here--think a very very faint gose-esque sourness. Something prickly at the end, like cactus paddles. Very light touch of citrus hops in the middle, perhaps. little taste of cardboard, of all things, in the high middle when savored, but otherwise is undetectable.
Feels light-to-medium bodied with a carbonated kick.
Overall, I'd drink it if it were handed to me or on sale, but not a go to beer for me.
It' cheap; give it a try.

Drank from tap at a restaurant. Thin watery typical to AAL, but they call this an amber lager. It may be endorsed by the most interesting man in the world, but definitely not the most interesting beer in the world, or Mexico for that matter. Not impressed.

Considering the cost and availability, this is my go-to everyday favorite. It's always in my fridge. I'm a big fan of Vienna Style beers. With a lime wedge this pairs with most of my meals well. Not too heavy and not too light.

My cookout beer of choice. Ever since my brewmistress wife expanded my beer horizons to include more than Coors and Busch, I have stayed away for the most part from those kinds of beers (except maybe Hamms and Strohs). If I am drinking beer, I want something that tastes like a beer. If I am not drinking beer to drinl beer, I don't want a beer that distracts me from what I am doing.

This is my beer to drink when I want to drink beer but I am not drinking beer to drink beer. Clear?

L: A pretty beer in a glass. Dancing bubbles, nice color, a bit more gold than proper amber, but still nice.

S: Smells like a beer. Doesn't have any specifically crafty aromas to it, just bready-malty and a very light bit of hops - pine/gin.

T: Malty enough, a bit of pine/gin hoppiness, not astringent, moderately thirst quenching and satisfying. A good start to a beer night, or a good beer for day drinking.

F: Medium, it is not a flavored seltzer. Has some body, but still reasonably carbonated.

O: A good average beer, a go to when I don't want to impress myself or others, just want a beer to drink.

I hardly ever drink Mexican beer but when I do I drink DosEquis Amber Larger! The fact that it is a Vienna Larger helps as it has some real beer attributes.

This is a macro produced beer in the style of the Vienna lager. Vienna malt is used and that's the same as for the Bock style. Vienna malt is lighter and sweeter than Munich malt which is used in the Oktoberfest. These two styles are similar and drink similarly but each is distinct. They differ in color slightly from the different malts used. The qualities that define both styles are no caramel, subtle or low hops presence. In the mouthfeel there is a pertinent difference. The Vienna finishes with some residual sweetness and can show some warmth in the finish. Both are clean lagers with no diacetyl, no dms, no fruity esters. Neither should have any roasted flavors.

Dos Equis Ambar is a darker lager to have with food. It is refreshing. It has a good clean feel with lots of bubbles and a mild flavor. With food it acts as though it has bitterness because it's mostly dry. But without food it's a sweeter finish. The body on the beer is light enough to seem thin and easy to drink. It tastes like brown bread with a good crust. A husky grain finishes smooth and with a sweet touch at the very back but leaves the palate wide open. A bite from carbonation and a breath from those hops that I would say is no more than vibrance. No real flavor or scent but you can taste them and it's not bitter. They lend an almost citric snap to the finish. This beer went extremely well with savory foods. With sweeter foods it appeared much thinner.

I thought this beer met all the style guidelines. The off flavors I see mentioned for this beer are caramel - I honestly did not find any. And fruit- again no. Metallic- I noticed people saying metallic flavor. While I found none, I am guessing that if you did observe metallic it could be one of two main reasons -one - improper storage of malts, or two the bottle was old and the metallic flavor is the result of oxidation.

Dos Equis pours a clear copper body beneath a foamy yellowed-white head. The head retention is pretty good and it leaves some decent lace behind.

The nose expresses lightly sweet and toasty malt but little else. There's the suggestion of hops in the background, but they can't be picked out. A delicate flicker of yeasty sulphur comes through as well.

The flavor is not quite as sweetish as the nose suggests, with the gently toasty malts balanced by a firm bitterness and ghostly floral hops. It finishes clean, short, and dry.

Crisp and light-medium in body, this is an easy-to-drink lager that offers a bit of character in its toastiness.

A clear amber pour with a nice head. The nose is very mild...light fuitiness takes some shape. The taste overall is bland. Almost no hoppiness. Malts are sublte if not hidden. There seems to be a pinch of citrusy sweetness on the finish but that fades quite fast. A light bodied beer with a decent mouthfeel. An easy drinker but little in the way of interesting qualities.

Appearance: Medium amber with neither head nor lacing

Smell: What smell? I think there is a little maltiness but it was hard to discern

Taste: All malt and no hops; very little taste overall

Mouthfeel: Light, watery with a touch of carbonation

Drinkability: From most of the Mexican beers (lagers) this one will be had again

Pours a clear orange amber with a small quick to disappear head. Lace in not available. Carbonation is robust and persistent.

Nose: Grain, some honey like sweetness, corn

Medium mouth with some caramel maltiness. Finishes mostly clean with a touch of bitterness and something a tad bit foul, though barely offensive.

Definately sometimes the best choice available unfortunately. Thanks Josh for the sample.

A: Clear amber with a fleeting finger of white head.

S: Some adjunct malts, a little steamed veggie, a bit of yeast sourness.

T/M: Some sweet caramel adjunct malts, strange yeast sourness and a bit of earthiness. Over-carbonated with a medium body, very gassy and filling.

D: Not a big fan of this at all. Can't say I will grab this again unless there's nothing else better to drink.
