Tried this tonight at a Mexican food cafe here in Austin. Poured a 12 ounce bottle into a glass. The waiter brought two limes to go with it, but I put them aside.

The pour is pretty boring, as there wasn't much head to the beer, and the color and body of the brew appeared to be fairly thin.

I took a sip and tasted a tart kind of sour crispness. Not bad, and it was fairly refreshing. Took a couple more sips, about the same thing. I then added the limes, as this is the way I see most people drink this brew (I personally never really like fruit in my beers). In this case, the limes do actually add a good amount of flavor as the offset some of the sourness and add a little more refreshment to the beer. With the limes, I would rate the taste at a 3.5. The mouthfeel is about what you would expect for a Mexian lager, fairly thin, but it wasn't watery.

This is one of the few beers I would actually drink in the future but include the limes in. It does a nice job of going with chips and salsa as well as tex-mex food. Nothing complex, not the best flavor, but still a good thirst quencher and goes down easy with food.

This beer poured a clear straw color with a nice head. It had a hoppy, sweet smell. The taste is clean and crisp and slightly salty. The mouthfeel is thin. This is one of those that is drinkable very cold on a hot day - this is very average beer but quenching.

Served in a bottle. Popped a lime in there. No salt, I never use salt on XX, only with Corona or Tecate.

First I must mention, this beer is super drinkable, if that makes any sense. I could drink it all day long. It goes great with any food, especially spicy. Tonight we are having sincronizadas and XX will do just fine.

The smell is masked by the lime, but I'm sure it's pretty lager like.

The taste is smooth and it bubbles/fizzes nicely on the tongue.

Through the green tint of the bottle the beer looks perfect.

Poured from the bottle into a pilsner glass.

Clear pale gold body. Aggressive pour produced a nice head, though it was gone almost immediately. Garnished with a slice of lime.

Aroma is pretty much non existent. It smells quite good, but that's because of the lime, so that won't matter in the review numbers.

Flavor serves it's purpose. It's crisp, clean, and pairs excellently with the lime.

This is really a situational beer only for me. I only drink it when I'm eating Mexican food, as it complements perfectly. It does not stand well on it's own though, so I will score it accordingly. Drinkability is top notch.

A thin yellow beer with crazy soda carbonation, not much smell, and a very thin grain taste with bitter bite and prominant booziness. Mothfeel is prettymuch like watery soda. Definately at the bottom of my list for Mexican lager. Move along folks, nothing to see here.

The last time I had this beer was when I was 18 in Tijuana. I didn't know hardly anything about different styles of beer, but I thought it was better than Corona, which isn't such a feat.

The pour is clear gold with a "now you see it, now you don't" white head. The nose has sweet grains and malts.

There seems to be three kinds of macro lagers. Retched adjunct filled ones, the ones that have about as much in common with water as the do with beer, and the ones that have a sweet, crisp taste. Brews from the last group aren't anything spectacular, but they can be refreshing, they can wash down food, and they're easy to quaff.

Dos Equis falls into the third camp. The taste starts off with hops, which were all but absent in the aroma, and finishes with a grainy sweetness. No es nada especial, but it's not so bad.

HEAD: little
LACE: slight
AROMA: like any pale-lager
PALATE: adjusts well
COMMENTS: First tried on homeymoon in Akumel, Quintana Roo in the Yucatan Peninsula. It was stocked in our fridge. The one thing that had to be restocked daily. Very refreshing...Better than Corona Extra. Hint: Keep your room’s a/c at about 65 degrees F and the geckos will not bother you...

A- Pale yellow with large carbonation. Very active. Head is non-existant.

S- Sweet corn malt with small hop spice aroma. Has that funk found in beers that travel great distances and time beofre it reaches you.

T&M- Light bodied and crisp. Very refreshing with corn malt sweetness and some spicy hop bitterness. Has a syrupy tea-like texture with some funk. Clean, dry finish.

D- It is like german lager with corn adjuncts. On the high end of mexican beers which doesn't say much but this beer is actually not bad. I tend to lean torward this if given the choice between Macros. Smooths out spicy food, so it does have that going for it.

Golden in color, the small head fell quickly.
Smell was of adjuncts and light malt, maybe a touch of coriander.
Taste is just a beer to wash food down with. Sweetish and low amounts of citrus. Hops not there. Mouthfeel is fizzy. More drinkable than a lot of Mexican beers out there. Just still not that impressive.
Good beer to wash tacos down with. Saludas!

This is about your best bet for a decent beer when eating at most Mexican restaurants(or maybe Negor Modelo). Pours a pale yellow with low carbonation and lacing. Smell is not unlike the tortilla chips, moderately corny. The taste is very mild with corn dominating all flavors and a crisp finish. Mouthfeel is thin but what one would expect in this style beer. This a very smooth drinker that is not overly heavy on the stomach. A good bet for warm weather during outdoor activities.

Dos Equis Special Lager pours yellow with a white head from a green twelve ounce bottle. Smell is corn, maybe corn husk. Tastes like adjunct, especially corn and cereal. This wouldn't be a bad one to throw a wedge of lime into and drink on a hot day (review is no lime). No reason to recommend this beer.

Appearance is pretty boring. Light yellow, golden color with small white head that leaves very little to no lacing. Smell is grainy. Taste is grainy, watery and a bit of a sweet aftertaste. Mouthfeel is watery. This beer is light on taste as is typical with Macro's while this earns it little points in the taste department it does make it fairly drinkable. Overall a typical Mexican American Macro Lager. I think Mexican breweries should stick to the Vienna Larger style.

A - Golden beer with a 1/4" head that disappears immediately. Some good lacing.

S - Very lackluster. Almost no aroma. A little faint sweetness.

T - Sweet. Apple juice-like.

M - Thin bodied with high carbonation.

D - Decent drinkability if you are looking to wash some nasty nachos down at the cheesy hotel happy hour on the beach, other than that, I can't recommend this.

Poured effervevscent yellow/gold with a 1.5" head that left the glass pronto, no lacing either

Smell: Slight sweet malt notes

Taste: Some grainyness. corny notes & cloying sweetness that never leaves. Finishes sweet & boring

MF: Spritzy & medium light body. Okay carbonation

Drinks okay if you like oversweet lagers. Would go okay with some firery foods, but dissapoints on its own. I remember this being better, maybe memory is playing tricks...

I guess this is the type of beer to drink with some flame-throwing Mexican dish, because there isn't much taste. It's a yellow beer with a small white head. It had a mildly floral aroma, and that is about all you'll get from it. I couldn't taste much of anything, very insipid. Drink it if you must with some spicy dish, otherwise leave it alone.

Poured a light golden, bright color. Head had minimal retention.
Smell was a little grainy, but not unpleasant.
Taste was smooth and slightly citrus, no unpleasant tastes, finished clean.
Mouthfeel is average.
Drinkability is good for what this is, which is a Mexican Lager, and the best of the Mexican's I've had. Drink XX with a big plate of Tex-Mex enchiladas and it's the perfect compliment.

Tasted this bottle on 30.06.06, could not locate BB date on bottle. 4.8% ABV.
Poured a clear amber body with a fairly insignificant head. The head disappeared quite quickly. Smelled okay if a bit bland. Some hops in the taste, no malts, hint of caramel. Mouthfeel was syrupy. Average.

Overall an average beer when drinking it alone, but with food, this beer is magnificent. It's obvious that you don't want a beer so flavorful and strong with a full meal that it overpowers the food you're eating, and while Dos Equis does have some flavors, it maintains itself subservient to the meal you eat, which is why I rated it better than some. One must look at the common intended use for the beer before one attacks it on characteristics reserved for beers meant to be drank alone.

dos equis is a notch above most of the other big name mexican beers that i've had. but that's not a large notch. pale, thin, almost flavorless. this beer gives the advertisement of being a thirst quenching summer fav, but it gets old after a while. i didn't really detect much of a nose from it, other than the dry carbonation and a bit of hop masked corn. tastes kind of skunky, but i think in this case that is a bit of a good thing. there isn't much else going for it. again, this beer feels typical of most large pils/lager styles. the only way i would recommend this beer is to grab a twelve pack, grab your beach gear and go get drunk in the sun.

Textbook amber, perhaps a half-shade lighter. The bleached bone white head is the best part of the appearance. It has a rumpled, pitted upper surface and is a better than average lace generator. For the style, this isn't a bad looking beer.

The nose isn't so wonderful. Although it isn't offensive, it's heavy on the adjuncts and is recognizable as a macro lager with even a passing sniff. There's a mild amount of musty hoppiness and a lot of corn.

The flavor is the aroma in liquid form. Dos Equis Special Lager is a bland and watery version of a bland and watery style. I can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing given what the more bold macro lagers taste like.

There might be more corn here than barley (which, I'm sure, makes it cheaper to brew). The beer is lightly sweet, there's almost no hoppiness or body... do I need to continue? DESL is a more desirable beer than Corona in the same way that having one's nose hairs pulled out is a more desirable form of torture than having one's fingernails pulled out.

The mouthfeel doesn't measure up. Although each mouthful doesn't start out thin and watery, it arrives there in fairly short order. There isn't even a decent amount of carbonation to liven things up.

Dos Equis Special is a poor man's Dos Equis Amber. That's probably an unfair comparison since the latter is a Vienna lager and almost certainly contains higher quality ingredients. Other than color, the bottles and labels are identical, so make sure to buy the average one (Amber) rather than the lousy one (Special). Better yet, grab a sixer of Bohemia instead. You're welcome.

A refreshing lager, enjoyed best on the beach with a slice of lime. But then again all beer tastes better when your in the sun on the beach While a lime is not required it does enhance the flavor of the beer. It is because of its smooth, sweet taste, or maybe the lime just goes with the green bottle. I wouldnt recommend a lime with the Amber verison of Dos XX.

Had a couple of these with dinner on this Cinco de Mayo '06. Haven't had Dos XX in a couple years, what the heck? From the 12oz. green bottle pours a light golden lager with a finger of white bubbly head. The carbonation is good, the head dies quickly, even so.

Light sweet malt with a mild hopness in the nose. Pretty much smells like your average Amercan macro, it didn't do much for this Barleywiner (me).

Yeah, a few sips...gee I haven't been missing much. Very typical, some what bland, macro lager flavor...until the meal came. Ahhh, with the crispy quesadilla, salsa, frejoles and such... this beer started to shine.

Light body, average mouthfeel, light to moderate ABV, you can drink this as you would water. With the meal, it made the beer more than enjoyable. I'll do it again sometime, although I do prefer Bohemia, but that will be a different review...

Cheers to Mexico !

A standard beach-beer. Why are there no good beers sold at the beach? Anyhow, this one, albeit grainy and bite-ey has a cleanliness and crispness with it. Sweetness is low in the aromas and flavors. Again, the malt profile included adjunct grains and contribute a vegetable flavor. Flavors fade leaving a light medicinal flavor remaining. More bite-ey toward the finish. A little dry. Still a thirst quincher, but not for serious beer tasting.
