Pours a clear golden body beneath a full head of bright white foam. Tiny bubbles can be seen rising throughout the glass. The head retention is good and, bolstered by the carbonation rising from below, it maintains a thin lid throughout much of the glass. It even leaves some nice lacing.

The nose is limited to some mild malt. Surprisingly, it's not skunked despite the clear bottle.

In the mouth it's medium-light bodied with a median carbonation that gently tingles the tongue.

The flavor displays some lightly sweet, adjunct-laden malt. It's just slightly grainy. There are some hops present in the background, seemingly spicy in nature. A firm bitterness balances it, and it finishes short and dry.

Overall it's pretty vapid, which limits it's drinkability because there's just nothing there to keep your attention. And you can't really use the "on a hot day" excuse either because almost and golden, adjunct beer would do at that point.

My friend and I chose this beer based on two premises...he was in the mood for corona but didn't want to spend the $$$$ on corona and he liked the packaging.

the smell was dominated by the lime he put in this for me but it did have a skunky odor still

the taste was much more pleasing than corona

the mouthfell was very thin and carbonated

the drinkability is average as I don't especially care for corona. I will say this beer is better than corona.

This beer pours a pale honey yellow with a slight tint of mossy green. The huge bleach white head fell to absolutely nothing in no time.

Smells of light biscuits and honey with a crisp lemon dryness.

Tasted initially of tingly bitter hops that was amplified by the carbonation but then revealed a light pasty bread dough and sweet corn bread that was pleasantly sweet in the finish.

The mouth feel was light and slightly sticky with an easy but prominent carbonation.

I could see myself drinking a lot of these if I needed to. Seriously, in a blind taste test, I’d bet you would have trouble guessing that this was made in Mexico. I must say, I was impressed by this beer.

before I "discovered" craft beers, this was one of my favourite beers.

The thing is, there's not much taste, smell or anything to it. Bland, watered down, just your macro lager. It doesn't taste or smell bad, it's just that it quite almost doesn't smell or taste at all. Yellow fizzy water, with a hint of beer.

Sol pours a light yellow with a fluffy white head from a clear bottle with silk-screened graphics (cool label in my opinion). Not much in the way of smell, and what little smell there is isn't good. Taste is fairly bland. I expected it to be more offensive as I'm not a fan of the Mexican version of lagers with a few exceptions. Fairly drinkable as lawnmower beer.

Clear bottle, pours a pale "bud" yellow, decent head that actually lasted, unlike the above mentioned american counterpart.

Aroma is primarily mildewish sweet corn.

Flavor actually isn't as bad as i thought from the aroma, but that's not to say it's good. It is somewhat crisp, and there is some mild hoppiness present, but the corniness lingers on the pallete, and it's not a very plesent flavor. I wish I had a corona to rate this side-by-side as I am thinking this is a better option than Corona (also not sayiing alot there..). Bottom line, any beer that needs a fruit wedge (lime in this ones case) to enhance drinkability is probably lacking a bit in the flavor department. Decent lawnmower fodder.

Sol is a tasteless mexican beer. It has no body or smell. It has a faint citric taste and could be mixed with lemon in its most mexican style. The faint corn taste is its only respectable taste.
Due to the invention of "Sol Brava", which is an attempt at creating a stornger, more alcoholic and more tasty beer, this beer has declined and only serves as a thirst quenching beer.
As the name sugests "sol" sun, is to be dunk at the beech under unbearable heat and extreme thirst. Nobody should drink sol to taste it.

If for some reason you were desirous of a Mexican beer, the current options in Melbourne are usually Sol or Corona.
Whilst it is always fashionable to prefer the non fashionable option , that in this case being Corona,Sol does offer a more pleasurable drink.Unfortunately the pleasure is still minimal
This pale offering is dull corn riddled and lacks any depth of character.
it is wet fizzy and probably is thirst quenching.
This is a hallmark beer for me , as I have finally convinced myself NOT to buy beers that are highly likely to be poor beers and wait , just wait for someone else to buy it for you. This is the first of what I hope will be many, so that I can reserve my money for decent beer.

Pours a very pale straw color with a lot of bubbly head that takes a while to fade. Smells a little of yeast, and a little flowery, not too bad. Tastes slightly sweet, but with no malt flavor, and no hop flavor at all. Really doesn't taste like much of anything. Mouthfeel is very watery with no creaminess and not much carbonation. Again, like nothing. All in all, it's very drinkable, because it tastes like water. Much better than bad beer, but much worse than good flavorful beer.

I am not a Corona fan so it was with some reluctance that I tried the beer that is sometimes referred to as a poor-man's-Corona. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. The presentation of the actual bottle is excellent and the beer itself is a pleasing pale yellow. As expected, not much aroma to speak of but there was a slightly sweet undertone. The taste was significantly better than that of Corona despite the similar corn flavors. No lime necessary. Being smooth and refreshing are this beers main pluses. Goes down like a glass of water and is perfect for outdoor drinking any day the temp climbs over 75 degrees.

Ummmm this beer isn't worth your trouble....

Appearance isn't so bad, decent head that goes quickly and leaves a little lacing. The color is your basic yellow. The aroma this beer emits is utterly repulsive, imo. My first impression was a skunky smelling tortilla chip...eeesh. Tastes very plain, very corny, very much not impressive. Mouthfeel and drinkability is pretty lame...just feels watery and isn't smooth or refreshing at all. I'd take a PBR, a Schlitz, or a Rainier before I even think about drinking another Sol.

"Cerveza Importada" ....yeah, whatever.

My father´s favorite beer.

This beer pours a very clear golden yellow color with some head that dissipates quickly; Smell is corn; Taste is a little bit malty;Very drinkable.

Sol is a very good choice for those hot summer days but always will be better than Corona.

Appearance: Pale yellow. Some lacing, im surprised.

Smell: Sweet, ok some spicey hops and some malts.

Taste/ Mouthfeel: Sweeter than I thought it would be, and bitey-er as well.

Drinkability/Overall: I would say its better than corona or cantina but does the same job on a hot say but doesn’t offer a taste bud rush of quality taste.

Very clear, very pale. Clean white head, very tight. It's a south of the border BMC!

Smell is a bit malty, ever so slightly spicy, and very airy and light. Ever so lighty medicinal, too...

Taste is like a rice field with one or two barley plants to give it character- or it would be, if it had much flavour. Very little to go on here. Just the barest hint of spice in the back.

Mouthfeel is sort of like club soda- water with some bubbles. (OK, not quite as aggressive as club soda.)

It would be more drinkable (and would make a dandy lawnmower beer) if it had any character at all. It seems challenged in this area.

Be well

With the type of beer in mind I will review this.

Appearance - Yellow piss color. Small head that quickly dissapates. Get's a 2 because of the pretty bottle.

Smell - Very weak. Technically that's a good thing. What I do smell is very uneventful if anything.

Taste - Well, you have to keep in mind this is a Mexican beer. It tastes like one also. I do prefer it to Corona any day. Got quite a bite on there, which I do enjoy.

Mouthfeel - No aftertaste. Lingers of water...quite refreshing for a summer day.

Drinkability - Goes down like water, could down a 6-pack of this easily. With lime it's excellent.

a beer only for drink with buddies, my father´s favorite beer, i dont think that this beer is good for food, but its presentation in 12 oz bottle is fantastic for drink, in a domino, etc, drinkability is over the average because i drink a couple if days in the week; however i recommended 75%.

My sister-in-law brought a six pack over for dinner last week. Not really impressed. Clear glass 12oz bottle. Pours out a glowing yellow color with almost no head that doesn't last at all. The smell is sweet with some metallic notes coming through.

Taste is much what I expected. Corn syrup sweet in the beginning and ending with the slightest hint of something bitter. Or maybe past it's prime? I can't tell. Overall this ranks about in line with Corona. Not impressed and would never buy on my own. There are better Mexican beers out there.

It depends of the presentation, regular bottles taste nice for a while, non retornable and cans are impossible to drink for someone who likes craft beers. But it may be, according to some rumours, because these last presentations are filled with the beers who went beyhond the date.

Tested in parallel with Corona Extra.

The colour is yellow with a pale tint of gold. The finger thick white head is quite thick.

The smell is somewhat sourish with notes of malt and white bred; it is rather simple.

The taste is mild and malty with some notes of lime, white bread, herbs and a passing bitterness. The aftertaste is almost watery with traces of bitterness and some malt.

The carbonation is quite strong, which gives this beer a refreshing morthfeel.

An OK “tropical” lager beer. Nothing special, but not bad either.

12 oz clear bottle

I decided to try this beer out of the bottle. Its just one of those Mexican beers that are better out of a bottle than a glass. Its the exception to the rule.

The beer has a golden yellow color with a sudsy white head.

Aromas are harder to detect out of the bottle, but smells like corn wheats and grains.

Syrupy mouthfeel with heavy corn and grain flavors. Finishes with a carbonated punch.

Another one of those imported beers that will work on a hot summer day. This is not a beer that I see myself buying a 6 pack of soon. It's a nice alternate to Corona and similiar in taste.

poured a pale amber yellow color with large white head that fell to a slight ring. Smell is of a little sweetness and slight malt. Tste is of a little malt and some corn textures. Mouth feel is refreshing and satisfying. Not a great beer but hits the spot on a hot day.

Maybe I am just tired of seeing Corona, but unlike many of the other reviews, I enjoy a nice ice cold Sol over a Corona anyday. Is it full and powerful bursting with malts and hops, no. But, it does have a slightly light malt flavor. It goes down smooth with or without that lime they love so much. Sit in a bar, drink a Sol, and watch the ocean. Thats what its there for.

Poured out to an over-carbonated white bubbly head with no lace around the glass. Not much of an aroma, hints of straw and malt were noted, but very light. Flavor was unimpressive, very weak, with overtones of corn and a touch of grain. Very watery. Finished weak and light. I guess this could be a lawnmower beer, but otherwise, rather boring. Worth a try for fans of Mexican beers.

Poured from a silkscreened 32oz into an imperial pint. Loud hiss when the cap was pulled.

Pale gold with a fizzy, generic head that is white and dies quickly and leaves almost nothing.

Smells grainy, I know there's some hop underneath, but it barely registers. Slight skunkiness, but not as strong as other macros that come to mind.

Slight grains with a faint malt and even lighter hop. Boring. Doesn't leave any off tastes, but there's not much going on here.

One of the most watered down tasting beers I've ever tried.

Well, first things first. I met this beer in the early 80s while helping a friend of mine to build a huge shrimp farm.
Since the shrimp larvae travels at night we had to work from midnight to dawn.
After checking out we always headed to the nearby beach eatery for a hearty beer-soaked breakfast. That was almost the only way to sleep during the sunbathed day.
The beer? The very cheap Sol.
OK, so I might be biased here.
Not quite. I have leaned a few things in the last 20+ years.
I still have one or two in some gatherings (it's still cheap!), so here I go:
Very clear and yellow, with some head (always drink it from the bottle (then and now).
Obvious corn smell.
Watery, yet bitter.
Little maltiness, almost no hops.
Really easy to drink --if the thermometer climbs above 100!
