Opaque orange, whipped meringue foam, arcs of sudsy lace in the glass.
Aroma is phenolic and a touch metallic, apple juice and pineapple cake struggle to register on the first sips. Banana bread, malted wheat cereal, light clove. Medium bodied and hefty, creamy texture from the wheat. Light oxidation.
Overall it’s decent, maybe not the freshest. First time seeing it around town, though other local reviews are over a year old.

Prior to finding Altvater, I didn't know Bischofshof was a contract brewer to Weltenburger. It shows. They both are exceptional and among my top five Bavarian brewers.
Altvater pours pretty, but loses to much of its life too quickly. Smells are sweet, subtle bananas and vanilla. Yet Tastes are balanced, but then again I'm a malt-head. Both penetrating and soft in my mouth, I marvel at how they can do both.
As this is my first from Bischofhof, I'd like to give them a proper micro-review. But they make it hard on me because I couldn't find the English button on their website. But from the photos, there is lots of sophisticated graphics. Beyond that, you be the judge. Prost !

Cloudy orangey yellow body with a billowing pearl white head and lacing. Banana, wheat, cheaper euro yeast with fruity esters. Taste leads with the fruity with cheap euro yeast undergirding wheat, banana, faint slices of red apple and clove finish. Feel is bright and yeasty with a wheat backbone, lighter.

500ml bottle. Poured out a slightly cloudy, burgundy color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of bubblegum, clove, banana and sweet toffee. Sweet caramel, banana and wheat taste with clove and spices.

500mL bottle
L: tall & frothy ivory head caps a hazy copper colored ale
S: banana, clove, wheat, light caramel, Hefeweizen yeast
T: light caramel, pale grain, wheat, yeast, clove, lemon, spicy & herbal hops, bubblegum
F: medium body, moderate carbonation, balanced finish
O: I’ll try anything German. This was good, just as expected.

A-Pours dark glossy honey that flashes into a burnished orange when held into light. Attractive cloud-white head that has decent retention throughout the 16.9 oz sip.
S-Honey wheat bread, trail mix, faint booze & gentle banana.
T-Honeycomb cereal, dried apricot, that indescribable bright fruity note so prevalent in quality beer (berry? cherry? citrus?) and bready.
M-Wonderful gloss with permeating bready-golden raisiny-booze airs. Dry finish with slight glossy feel lingering.
O-Near flawless beer. Only $2.99! Just as good as any Weihenstephaner bomber. The look could be less murky/dark a bit. The smell could benefit from being more pungent & blossoming. The mouthfeel is the biggest dink I'd say, very astringent & dry. But the glossy honey feel saves the day in that regard. Overall, a tasty, sweet meal in a glass that is perfect alone, with the rabbit hole of food pairings staring ever so deep. Keep up the good work Brauerei Bischofshof.

Very good Weizenbock, or Weißbierbock as we like to say in Bavaria. Can‘t help to benchmark this against the Vitus and to be honest: it holds up pretty well. Weizenbock is not for the average beginner, for some it‘s an acquired taste, others will never enjoy it. Personally, I think Weizen (wheat) is a great family of beers. Compared to the king of Weizenbock, this one is not as complex, at the same time it might me more approachable for someone who is not already a fan of the style. Less banana, less clove, more citrus. Very enjoyable. When in doubt, I‘d chose the Vitus, but definitely very enjoyable.

Undecipherable bottle code; drank 2/12/22 @ the Yarchives.
Mostly opaque dull orange appearance.
A slow pour yielded a huge bright white head; frothy tree-rung lace.
Banana, clove & mild caramel notes in the nose.
Soft, medium mouthfeel.
Banana & mild clove flavors up front; caramel notes on the finish.
A bit sweet, perhaps? Overall, very enjoyable.

Another curiosity pick from my local Russian market. This pours from the bottle a clear golden tan. Lots of banana and clove notes on the nose, with a real bready character. The sip follows the aroma, with a long, lingering malt-forward finish. A pleasant surprise.

Cerveza de color ámbar con una buena cabeza espumosa. Cuerpo y carbonatación media. Aroma a malta y especias. En boca es muy fácil de beber, con un buen final, ligeramente dulce.

An amazingly good weiss bock from a local Regensburg brewery.
Red-brown colour. Fruity/flowery taste with a bit of sweetness hidden and full body.
A highly recommended German classic bock!

Hazy bright yellow color with white head. Aroma has classic hefeweizen banana and clove. Taste starts sweet with lots of banana, slightly astringent, not bad.

From Corte Ingles El Duque. In Bavaria glass. At dinner, with noodles soup and Pok cheese. Lots of good hefe character in nose and mouth, with some bocky caramel at the end of sip, specially when warms up, that is very pleasant
