Artifact Brewing

 

 

Visited Artifact on the first weekend in November 2019. I believe they've been open for approximately a month, maybe slightly less. The brewery is the heart of Hatboro, at what used to be an auto repair shop at the corner of York Road and Moreland Avenue. They kept the garage doors (and open them up in nice weather) and did a nice job renovating the inside. Small bar with approximately 12 seats, three or four picnic type tables and four or so high-top tables. The vibe when we were there was low-key, all the seats at the bar were taken and one of the picnic tables, but noise wasn't a big problem, even though the space is wide open with nothing to really absorb sound. If you have a couple of loud groups in there I image it would get pretty loud. The beer selection was modest but a decent mix of styles: a pale ale (with Kveik yeast), a hazy IPA, two saisons, a beer that was labeled as a mix of a Kolsch and English pale ale, and an English bitter. There was also a guest tap from Warwick Brewing that actually might have been the best beer in the place. The pale ale and the hazy ale were OK, not great, but serviceable. The Kolsch/pale ale thing I didn't like at all - had a really weird funky aftertaste, so I didn't even finish that one. The English bitter was decent, but not nearly as good as the cask ales Forest & Main does down in Ambler. I only tried one of the saisons; it was OK. There was only one server behind the bar; she was very pleasant but seemed a bit harried (took a bit for me to be able to get her attention at the full bar). All in all, Artifact has done a very nice job with the space but I hope they continue to work on the quality and variety of beers.
