Have a very nice lightly hopped, fruity smell when you open the bottle. Pours a yellowish golden color with very little head, Initial taste is lightly hoppy and fruity sweetness also and mellows out to almost no aftertaste. Lacing and carbonation is there but not abundantly. This actually kind of reminds me of a Hefe, as far as the sweetness goes. This is a very drinkable brew, perfect for a hot day. I would definitely buy more when summer comes back around.

A hazy golden color beer. The head was white and fizzy and fades to a simple collar. Small streams of carbonation rise slowly to the top.
The aroma was mostly of hops. They had a fresh and dank smell. Smelled nie.
Taste was thin and watery with some hops and grainy malts. The hops wern't as noticeable as in the nose but still had a desent taste.
The beer drank dry and almost abrasive, but felt flat and lifeless on the palate.
Over all it's a good beer especially for the summer months with it's easy drinking and low alcohol. Take it to the shore.

A - bright, clear, gold with a soft, thin, white head

S - herbal hop aroma and some faint cereal grains

T - cereal grains, herbal hop character

M - light to medium bodied, well carbonated

This is a rather refreshing, light, very easy to drink, session beer. This would be great on a hot day.

Kona Big Wave, 4.4% ABV, 20 IBU, style American Blonde Ale. Pours hazy golden with medium thickness, one finger of foam that dissipates quickly leaving minimal lacing. Nose is malty fruity sweetness, taste follows. No bitterness, very drinkable. Overall a real decent and refreshing brew.

Appearance: Clear Golden with a foamy head, and nice lacing.

Smell: This Golden Ale provides a very strong and clean fruity aroma of: Pineapple, banana, mango, and guava. It is very aromatic.

Taste: Has a soft sweet pineapple and malty texture that dissolves into a very quick not long lasting crispy bitterness at the end.

Mouth feel: It is light in body. You can feel a slight carbonation at the tip of the tongue. It is slight warm in the mouth but yet very sooth and soft.

Overall: Light Summer golden ale. Goes down the throat very smoothly. I expected more fruitiness in the flavor but there was more malt. Maybe if it had been a bit colder it would have tasted better. It is a great beer to get relaxed with some chips and fruit as snacks. Its appearance is great, and foaminess could be described as a big wave, because it starts out big and travels down very bubbly to finally settle with a very thin layer of lace throughout the circumference of the beer. Very aromatic and light in taste. Not the greatest but I would definitely drink it again.

Started off with the beer in the bottle. No fancy glass. The bottle is aesthetically pleasing. Initial taste is light and flavorful. Smooth, but nice amount of carbonation. Alcohol content is on the lower side - allows you to enjoy the taste a bit more. Hint of sweet, and hint of hops. A good summer time beer.

Slightly hazy gold with a nice soapy head with spotty bubbles of lacing on the glass. Sweet grass in the nose with soft malt odors; light grain, untoasted bread. Very soft flavors in the mouth; muted without being watery, tastes of water crackers, unleavened bread, lightly spicy hop finish. Very clean, easy and pleasant session beer, tasting like a cream/blonde style of ale.

Didn't think Hawaii would have good beer, but they do, and this stuff is made to take you through long lazy days fucking around at the beach. This one poured a golden orange. Smelled a bit of orange peel and malts. Light bodied and drinkable yet had some tastiness so didn't become boring. Tasted of malts and maybe some slight fruitiness and hops coming through and finished smooth and satisfying.

Kona Brewing Big Wave Golden Ale
12 oz brown bottle
Served in a 20 oz tulip pint glass

Pours a golden haze blend of orange and yellow.

Whiffs of light hops and ripe fruit. A rather modest nose that doesn't overpower the senses, yet very pleasant.

Fruity with hints of pear and apples. Snappy moderate hop finish. The mouthfeel is smooth with a nice body. A rather nice and enjoyable blonde ale with a pleasing drinkability level.

Ok, nice color, head, lacing, blah blah blah. Let's get to the thick of things. There is something I like very much about this beer. This pale ale has a mild aroma which consists of hops, malt and some citrus. The aroma is pleasant. The taste, on the other hand is my favorite. Please do not judge me, but the taste is like a combination of hops, lemony citrus and some good skunk weed from the west coast(no really!!). This pale ale goes above and beyond and balances the citrus and hops so well. This beer is refreshing, feels good on the palate, and leaves you wanting more and more. Well Done, KONA !!!!!!!

Golden orange color with practically no head.
Nice tropical fruits aroma with predominant notes of pineapple, passion fruit and mango.
Likewise, fruity flavor with notes of honey, papaya, orange citrusy, passion fruit and melon. Dry aftertaste with a low to medium bitterness. Hops are very present in flavor and aroma, similar to an APA, but not much for bitterness.
Light body with perfect carbonation.
Positive surprise, I was expecting a boring beer. This is a flavorful beer with lots of tropical fruits. Assertive, clean and utterly pleasant. If it was easy to find I would always have this in my fridge to chill out.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass. Label bottling date of Nov 15, 2012.

Appearance: Pours a pale yellowish golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Solid three fingers of white head with good retention. Leaves a decent amount of lacing around the glass.

Smell: A laid back aroma of citrus fruit and soft malt. Soft pale malts with hints of wheat, grain, cracker, and biscuit. Decent hints of citrus orange, lemon, and a little mango. Hop scents are very faint. A very light smell but the citrus hint is nice.

Taste: Like the smell hints, a pretty light taste with citrus being the dominate flavor coming out. Pale malts with some notes of wheat, cracker, grains, and biscuit. A nice taste of citrus orange, lemon, mango, and pineapple. Light earthy hops and grass towards the finish. A decent taste for the style.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, clean, and somewhat juicy. Goes down very easy.

Overall: A decent version of the Blonde ale style. Light and crisp with a nice citrus fruit taste.

12oz. brown bottle into pint glass

A: clear gold, minimal head, but I think I poured too gently. Decent head retention, though.

S: spicy and piney hops, faint malt.

T/M: light body, well balanced between malt and spicy and slightly bitter hops. Bitterness doesn't linger in the finish.

Overall: a good hot weather beer. Flavorful without being too strong, heavy or overpowering.

The smell of the beer is floral and full of hop. Has a golden color to the body with carbonation. The body is similar to other golden ales I've had but has a hoppy and floral taste. The after taste reminds me of sipping an Oolong tea and is just as refreshing. A good beer for a summer day at the beach.

Gotta say, on draft in the chilled glass of which I usually do not drink beer in, this beer is very good. I look forward to my stops in Hawaii just so I can get the Big Wave on tap.

Appearance: It certainly is golden in the glass.

Taste: Sweet, refreshing, and just easy to drink

Kona Big Wave Golden Ale taste a bit like a commonly produced beer, but with it drinkability and when you can get it on draft I would drink a large quantity and have when in Hawaii.

My favorite of the Kona Brewing Company beers. Delicious... I love it. Probably one of my favorite beers (small beers) of all small beers. Fantastic.

Pint at Moose McGillicudy's in Kihei and Lahaina while I was in Maui a couple weeks ago, reviewed from notes, think I also had a bottle of this earlier that week

A-Light golden orange color, 1 1/4 inch creamy white head, nice retention, not much lacing
S-Sweetness, caramel, toffee, and bready malts, some orange peel, mild hoppiness, and a hint of fruit juice
T-Starts off with a bit of sweet fruits, malt is also on the sweeter side in the middle, then some very light hops in the finish, gets more flavorful as it warms and juicy fruit becomes more prominent, could have used more dryness to balance it out, still different from any blonde I have ever tried and quite surprising
M-Sweet, chewy, and a little dry mouthfeel, needs more carbonation and was a little on the syrupy side, medium body that was impressive thickness for a blonde, taste lasts pretty long
D-ABV seems low, light on the stomach except for the occasional heaviness from the sweet accents, nice session beer, goes down pretty easy

This is the one beer that Kona bottles and does not send over to California, so that explains why I had never seen it, not bad for three dollars during happy hour at the Moose, that place reminded me of the old one in Redondo Beach, would drink again, recommended

I poured this from a bit above the glass giving it a big white head that dies into a thin lacing above a clear golden colored beer.

Light sour citrus hops with some light grains aroma.

Big citrus hops taste, but not just lemon, a nice variety it seems. Also adding to the citrus taste is an added light grain malt that gives this beer a nice balance.

A light bodied beer with a light dry aftertaste that brings with it a slight citrus bitterness.

I usually don't care to much for the so called golden ales but this one is quite good for that style of beer.

On-tap at the Cheeseburger in Paradise in Lahaina, Hawaii. Served in a pint glass.

Looks just like your typical lager, straw-colored and clear with little to no carbonation. Not very much lacing either. Some maltiness in the smell, along with very faint traces of citrus and fruitiness. Not bad.

Maltiness carries over into the taste, along with a very slight twinge of bready flavoring. Just a light bit of bitterness, which suits me just fine. The finish has some fruity nuances, including banana and pineapple. They become more evident as the beer warms up a bit, and were definitely a pleasant surprise. Not too much of an aftertaste. Mouthfeel is a bit heavier than expected, but still pretty light with some decent carbonation.

I could easily have knocked back a few more of these, thanks to the pleasant taste. Very nice complement to the stellar burgers served at Cheeseburger in Paradise.

Bottled Feb 4th 2015

Look - Pours light golden amber with thin white head that dissipates quickly to a film with medium bubble distribution. Very little clinging. 3 paws.

Smell - Notes of apricot and honey, small amount of steely hop character. Not too bad. 3.5 paws.

Taste - Not terribly flavorful, the apricot that was on the nose is present in the taste as well. Slightly bitter finish, nicely balanced. Reminds me of a more "robust" Budweiser. 4 paws.

Feel - Crisp and refreshing, thin and watery. Finishes smooth, most of the tingle is one the sides of tongue. 4 paws.

Overall - I've had bad experiences with Kona so I wasn't expecting much, but was actually pleasantly surprised. 3.75 paws.

A: Clear straw colour, similar to apple juice. Foamy head.

S: Resinous tropical fruits. The missus likes it.

T: Reasonably dry but there is some sweetness. Lots of tropical fruit, probably mango, for it has that smoothness and earthiness. Mellow bitterness.

M: None of the Kona beers I've had have been very effervescent and this is no exception. There's just enough to add a bit of prickliness to the rindy bitter flavour.

O: Not a bad beer.

Pours golden brown with a white head that quickly disappears, but leaves a nice lacey ring after each sip. Smell is unique - malts, grain, grass, some chocolate, and even coffee. Opens malt forward, with hints of grass, grains, yeast. Smooth and highly drinkable. Solid offering.

This is more of a light ale than anything, but the smell still reminds me of an IPA. The hoppy-ness is very apparent in smell along with a mild sweetness that's also almost botanical. When it comes to color I have a hard time putting a finger on the tint, I mean the beer is clear for the most part but there's also a bit of haziness that hits the eye once you wipe the condensation from the glass you're drinking out of. The taste of this beer has two layers, beginning and end, the beginning taste is mild, no bite or sting but almost gives you the impression you're about to drink a danky IPA. Once the beer hits your tongue is when you realize you're drinking an ale, a very light ale. The second layer of the taste is what reminds you that the beer is a bit on the lighter side, because it's almost watery. Watery is not a negative word, just the best way to explain the after taste of this particular beer. The texture of the beer is not heavy by any means, in fact I would compare this beers texture with that of a corona. All in all this beer would serve well with some good bbq, a good day in the sun with a nice smoked rib stack would help understand the meaning behind the beers flavor. Good beer, would definitely drink it again.

Light yellow and slightly hazy with a white cap that starts about a half inch with a vigorous pour and fades to an eighth inch. Big on floral and tropical fruit notes on the nose very light bittering, reminds me a of hopped up version of a wheat beer. Very sessionable would be great to have in a cooler on the beach in Kaua'i soaking up some rays. Pick one up if you're looking to add some tropical feel to the next time you lounge in your hammock.

I wasn't expecting to like this beer. For some reason I was expecting a cheap Mexican like beer. I guess I equate beaches and waves and yellow beer with bad beer. However, I quite enjoyed this beer it was full of flavor and interesting to drink.
