Notes / Commercial Description:
Big Wave is light golden ale with a subtle fruitiness and delicate hop aroma. A smooth, easy drinking refreshing ale. The lightly roasted honey malt contributes to the golden hue of this beer and also gives a slight sweetness that is balanced out by our special blend of hops.

Golden blonde. Probably, Big Wave gets its name from the frothy white head that resembles and wave rolling in from the ocean.

Ever so slight grass/hops smell.

Tastes like an innocuous pilsner at first, but mild fruitiness and a slight hop presence emerge. Light glycerol finish.

Feels light. Crispy. Easy to swallow. Easy to swallow a lot.

Overall, not a great beer. But for THE STYLE is great. If you enjoy it for what it is, it's a quite nice and refreshing beer. Would make a great party beer, especially in the summer, at cookouts, BBQs, and such. I may even go so far as to declare this a SESSION BEER!

Pours a crystal clear golden colour with a minimal white head. Nose leads with tons of tropical fruits like mango, passion fruit and peaches and is followed up with some pale malts. That same fruitness comes though on the tongue along with some bready malts and a slight citrus hop. The mouthfeel was on the light to medium side with a active carbonation that disappeared quickly. A nice refreshing, easy drinking summer beer.

L: Light golden yellow with a less than finger of head which dissipates quickly.

S: Very faint smell of light caramel malts and slight hint of pineapple.

T: Floral with a sweet citrus pineapple taste. Very Tropical.

F: Smooth and crisp. Light bodied and low to moderately carbonated.

O: I bought a 12 pack of this. It made for a great summer party drinker.

Had on tap at a local pub & grub. A light bodied golden ale with a white head and decent lacing. Mildly carbonated with a hint of hops and citrus. A good representative of this style of beer.

Part of a variety 12-pack $13.99 Longs Drugs
Clear golden color
Light mouth feel
Medium carbonation
Hint of guava, slightly sweet
Overall an easy drinking refreshing beer, but I wish it had more of a distinct characteristic to set it apart from macrobrews. My least favorite among Kona brews.

I guess it's the label and provenance but I first smelled pineapple and mango LifeSavers. All in all easy drinking and nice all around. Bowled over? Not really but nice.

Kona Big Wave, 4.4% ABV, 20 IBU, style American Blonde Ale. Pours hazy golden with medium thickness, one finger of foam that dissipates quickly leaving minimal lacing. Nose is malty fruity sweetness, taste follows. No bitterness, very drinkable. Overall a real decent and refreshing brew.

Fruity and floral. Light smooth ale with a citrus note. Very easy drinking brew. Not heavy at all. Descent food beer..not overpowering but adds a good note to wings and other foods.

Clear golden color, white head. Aroma is really clean and malty. Taste follows, balanced, malty at first with some light, grassy hoppiness. Light body with medium to high carbonation. Not bad but it's quite generic and boring.

This was a surprisingly great beer. I was expecting a typical American lager type bland experience. This one has a lovely smell and taste of apricot. I have no idea where that flavor came from, but it was really nice. Between a lager and an amber, nice golden color. This is a beer that I could drink all night.

This is pretty similar in appearance to the Wailua Wheat, maybe a little lighter with a little thicker head, though it dissipates just as quickly. The smell is also citrusy, but in this case it’s an orange / lemon scent. In this case I think the fruit flavor blends much more nicely than the Wailua Wheat. There is a fairly strong taste of orange, but just as much so is the malty beer flavor. There is also a faint sweet, floral essence. It’s very light bodied. It tastes fairly akin to a Blue Moon, though better I would say. The finish is very crisp and clean to the point that there is almost no aftertaste, which to me is neither a good or bad thing. It’s definitely a nice session beer, for the price, on a hot summer day.

Again, a clean, decent tasting light ale from Kona. Not sure why it's getting such low ratings. It's nothing amazing but it's more drinkable than most beers out there.

Poured from the tap into a large plunder glass. The appearance is a clear, pale golden color with a large white head. The aroma is malt and fruit. The taste is very nice blend of fruit, malt and hops. A great summer time beer.

Appearance: Deep golden in color, crystal clear body and a nice fluffy white head with thin lacing.
Smell: Sweet malty aromas, mild sugar cane, apples and that’s about it.
Taste: Sweet, malty with nice a spiciness to it. It’s mildly bitter towards the aftertaste, but well balanced overall.
Mouthfeel: Crisp. Semi dry and well carbonated.
Overall: Nice, clean and crisp, very refreshing.

Floral and somewhat sweet smelling. Juicy fruit gum. Perfumey. Crackery malts and honey. Biscuits. Citrus fruits. Clean and bright.

A burst of sweet citrus and graham. Lemon and honey. Balancing bitterness. Somewhat doughy malt character. Cheerios. Cleanly fermented. Dries out in the finish nicely.

Light body with medium high carbonation. Prickly bubbles, but enough malt character to keep it from feeling fizzy. Clean and dry.

Nice blonde ale. Crisp and refreshing.

Poured from bottle into pint glass.

Pours a nice golden color with a one finger head. There was a lot of bubbles from carbonation.

You get subtle aromas of tropical fruits but I could not distinguish which. Slightly floral.

The taste gives sweet hints of mango and citrus with very subtle hops character in the back. There is some grainy tastes in there.

The beer has a nice medium feel to it with less carbonation that what it appeared to have during pour. Finishes crisp in the mouth.

Over all this is a nice sipping golden ale. It is very pleasant to drink and refreshing. At the low abv I can easily add this into a session and not get bored of it whatsoever.

The beer comes in a medium gold color.

The aroma offers hints of citrus and stone fruit, hints of tropical, with a sweet grainy malt character.

The flavor is instead dominated by a grainy sweetness, a hint of wheat, a light flavor profile throughout, with a medium carbonation and a medium minus body with a smooth lightly sweet finish, hints of grassy hops.

F: easy drinking with some pleasing carbonation
I: I don't care what others think, I loved it. Will be on my short list.

Pours golden brown with a white head that quickly disappears, but leaves a nice lacey ring after each sip. Smell is unique - malts, grain, grass, some chocolate, and even coffee. Opens malt forward, with hints of grass, grains, yeast. Smooth and highly drinkable. Solid offering.

Light and crisp with a hint of citric, herbal hop. Dry, crisp finish and well carbonated. Just a mild touch of sweetness. A great summer session beer best drank extra cold.

Pours a golden color, with a moderately sized head featuring quite a bit of visible carbonation.

Smells predominately of grains, but I also detected some flora notes, dare I say marijuana?

Taste is similar to the smell. Everything about this is light. There's some grassy flavors (did I forget to mention pot?), and the grains is definitely present. Overall this is a forgettable yet solid brew. Which is probably what anyone should expect.

I had this beer both on tap and in the botle in Hawaii. It pours a clear gold color with floral md pale malt aroma. The taste is soft, balanced and slightly hoppy. Fruit is present as well..subtle and mildly sweet. Lightly-medium in body and lingering oh friuty in mouthfeel. Okay.

Decent ale, not heavy, not too light. It's very average, and I mean that as a compliment. It doesn't lean too heavily on hops or malt, but the flavor is present. Much better than a macro without getting into intense flavors.
