Crystal clear, golden, fluffy white head, somewhat persistent, not lacy; The aroma has a whiff of hops; Tangy mouthfeel, good carbonation; Flavor is a little bit hoppy, not strong, not too bitter; I bought a six at the grocery store - buy one, get one free. Not bad for a cheap beer.

I did a taste test of Gold Cliff IPA and Hanalei Island IPA, both by Kona Brewing. I had expected, for no good reason other than the name, for Gold cliff to be the better of the two. Gold Cliff is just slightly paler. Hanalei has a frothier head with just a bet more retention. The smell quite similar, neither is strong, but Gold Cliff may be just slightly stronger. Mouthfeel is about the same. Hanalei seemed just slightly milder in flavor, which was not my initial impression when I drank the beers on separate days. Now I think I might have gotten the glasses confused as to which is which. And that makes this taste test worthless, doesn't it? These two beers are similar enough, that I bet that, though there is a slight difference between the two, if you were given one and asked to say which it was, I bet you couldn't. on the other hand, if you buy both, you'd probably eventually pick a favorite. Basically, they are very similar.

Poured from a can ,almost clear medium gold with quickly dissipating white head leaving scattered lacing. Nose is mild pineapple and maybe a whiff of grassy hops. Taste follows with a bit of mild hop bitterness and a stealthy malt backbone. Overall very mild with a clean slightly tart and slightly bitter finish.A bit on the watery side. A bargain at $6 for 4 pints.

Kona has long harvested on the basis of taste and culture, this beer takes them to another level, to use a boxing metaphor it jabs you with taste but comes in with the uppercut with feel and strength of an arrogant bastard.

Pours light, nearly straw gold, almost crystal clear with an excellent three-fingered foamy head, decent retention and good lacing.

Aromas of lemon and pineapple forward, with grainy malts following and hints of floral/grassy/earthy hops in the background. A bit of a sour note as well. Subdued aroma overall.

The flavor is definitely not a typical IPA. Citrus notes forward, with white pepper, white grape, and soapy notes (like a saison(?)) at mid-stream, and earthy and grassy hops at the finish. As the brew warms, some weedy dank notes arrive, and the spicy/soapy notes subside. A touch of warming booze as well. The pineapple on the nose is not terribly evident on the tongue. Despite being a bit odd in flavor profile, it has a nice balance, and is somewhat evocative of a throwback British IPA.

The brew is solidly medium-bodied, with a nice medium-dry, but not crisp finish.

This is a decent, unique, and well-priced offering relative to its quality.

6 pack of bottles picked up at Total Wine in Bellevue, Washington. Pckd date is 4/27/19, first two straight from bottle next two from a pint glass.

Look- Very light straw color, big puffy all white head that diminishes quickly, minimal carbonation present as it goes down.

Smell- Pineapple, pineapple, a bit of tropical fruit (mango, guava), pineapple, pineapple, a bit of mixed citrus, pineapple with a bit of sweet pineapple.

Taste- (See above) and add a bit piney herbal flavor with some very sweet malty goodness.

Feel- Very light on the palate and a bit watery, almost drinks like a session beer, but the ABV says otherwise.

Overall- Pineapple soda, very crushable. The Total Wine by my house has 4 packs of pints for $5.99, going after work tomorrow to clean them out.

Appearance - Pours a cloudy gold with four fingers of frothy white head.

Smell - citrus and tropical hops, citrus, orange peel, lots of pineapple, bready malts, and earthy yeast.

Taste - bold citrus and tropical hops upfront followed quickly into the citrus, orange peel, and blast of pineapple. The bready malts and earthy yeast finish off the brew.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes sticky with the hops, malts, and pineapple lingering.

Overall - An enticing IPA that delivers on the pineapple front. An enjoyable brew that makes me reminisce of my days spent on the beach in Maui.

Picked up a couple of six packs on a BOGO special at my local Publix here in Florida. GOLDEN in color with a marginal thin head which disappeared quickly. Nose was definitely Oahu pineapple fields a few miles north of Miliani HI! Taste is tart with hints of mango and citrus. Mouth feel was a bit thin. The alcohol was not noticeable. Definitely a fruity IPA repeat!

Gold Cliff IPA | Kona Brewing Co. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, the head's three fingers thick, with laicng, and a f body.

Smells like honey biscuit malts and plenty of "tropical" hops. Not really picking up on the pineapple with just a whiff.

I taste a tad bit of the pineapple, which definitely compliments the other aforementioned elements.

Medium-light mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

Overall, I'll rate Gold Cliff IPA | Kona Brewing Co. at a 4. Thanks to @nicholas2121 for the mixed 6 trade.

This is good. Hoppy citrus and a great dry mouthfeel. Beautiful to look at BUT it’s just good, not great. Had they achieved this flavor profile with hops alone it would have impressed me more. Still my favorite Kona IPA so far.

Gold Cliff IPA brewed by Kona Brewing Co., with an ABV of 7.20% This American IPA pours out a deep golden amber color with a nice white head. There is a some nice spotty lacing to this brew, it does stick to the side of the glass. The smell is rich with hop bitterness mixed with sweetness. You also pick up on a nice amount of earthy grains and malts. The sweetest is definitely from pineapple, an is a nice touch to this American IPA. So far Gold Cliff IPA is a nice inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is Bold with flavors. You first pick up on a mild hop bitterness mixed with pineapple. Like I said the pineapple is a nice touch to this brew. You also pick up at the end a nice amount of earthy grains and malts. The body of Gold Cliff IPA is a solid medium. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a super nice balance to it. It is really hard to pick up on the 7.20% ABV in this brew it is just that smooth. The mouth feel is Bold, Sweet, Hoppy, Clean, Smooth, and Refreshing. Overall I am going to give Gold Cliff IPA a solid 4 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Kona Brewing Co., Did a real nice job with this American IPA. If you are looking for some sweetness in your IPA you should look this one up.

12 Oz Bottle poured into glass
Look - golden yellow in color, mostly clear but some particles. Medium-small foam head and some lacing
Smell - sweet, almost too sweet in the aroma, like a fresh opened can of tropical juice.
Taste - Hops are in the background, this good but not as balanced as other IPA's, this is on the sweeter and fruitier side with not much bitterness. Pineapple and sugar cubes with some piney hops as well. It's very easy to drink, only medium body and medium carbonation.

Overall, not a huge trendsetter, this is fairly average but it does have the pineapple addition to give it more sweetness. I could drink another one of these. Grade is a B+

Taste is pine hop bitterness some tropical fruit and touch of bready malt.
Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. The finish is slightly dry and bitter.
Overall a standard West Coast IPA. Not bad for a flavored beer. Bottle date was 7/14/18.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/17/2018. Pours fairly crystal clear medium golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big juicy pineapples, fruit skin, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pear, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted bread, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, pineapple, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy pineapples, fruit skin, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pear, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted bread, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of juicy pineapples, fruit skin, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pear, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, pineapple, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, sticky/resinous/rindy, and fairly crisp balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.2%. Overall this is a delicious fruited IPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, pineapple, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, easy, and fairly crisp to drink with the moderately bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Nice Mosaic, Chinook, Topaz, and Citra profile. Very juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balanced hops/fruit; nice pale malt backbone, with minimal residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on west coast style example.

Pours a clear gold color. 1/2 inch head of a white color. Good retention and decent lacing. Smells of resin, citrus hops, hint of spicy hops, slight alcohol, earthiness, and a hint of sweet malt. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is only a slight bitterness. Tastes of resin, citrus hops, hint of spicy hops, slight alcohol, earthiness, coconut, and a hint of sweet malt. Overall, good aroma and blend, but average otherwise.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle dated April 10, 2018. Sampled on September 21, 2018.

I would describe the appearance as a slightly golden-yellow color with a chill haze and a moderately lingering white foamy head. Some lacing as it diminishes.

There is an essence of stale bread in the aroma but it is offset by a more forward citrus, lemon hop character.

Effervescent light body.

Those lemon and citrus characters play up more so in the taste and lead to a clean, crisp yet semi-dry finish.

Gold Cliff pours a clean copper color, with no head. Mellow aroma, but nice and sweet. Flavor is subtle, a little grainy, but has a nice subtle sweetness to balance it out. Good body and feel. Overall, a nice little IPA.

I had bunches of Konas when I was in Hawaii in 2008. Not this one, though. I remember there was one good one - a porter, I think. I saw this today, and my son and daughter-in-law are in Hawaii at this moment, so how about it! Either I'm stoned or this is one excuse-me kind of weak AIPA. Both, I guess.

My sample is 35 days old. It's nice and clear and yellow. The aroma is very weak but pleasant and only the minutest skunky. Similarly, the taste is MIA. One of the most understated AIPA's out there. It's amazing that they have wide distribution of this. Why bother?

Not recommended unless you don't really like AIPAs.

12oz bottle - brewed with pineapple, presumably from the same island from which this brew gets its name.

This beer pours a clear, bright pale golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat bubbly off-white head, which leaves some random sudsy and splattered lace around the glass as it slowly but surely subsides.

It smells of sugary pineapple flesh, gritty and grainy cereal malt, a further mixed-berry fruitiness, some damp minerality, and plain leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is faint pineapple, bready and doughy pale malt, some mango, guava, and kiwi tropical fruity notes, and more floral, weedy, and piney verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly laid-back in its lanai-friendly frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth, with a wee airy creaminess seeping in once things warm up a tad out of the ol' basement mini-fridge. It finishes off-dry, the frooty malt character running the lingering after-party.

Overall - this is a pleasant enough offering, the pineapple adjunct hardly overwhelming, but it's there, with a few of its friends. And with the extra two or so points of ABV not noticeable in the least, this makes for a very enjoyable quaff on a hot summer day.

I got this off the single shelf at my local Giant Eagle. It poured a clear golden with thin white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had faint pineapple. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with tropical fruit butter presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

Floral smell
Clear golden color
Medium mouthfeel
Medium carbonation
Very subtle pineapple notes, Bitter aftertaste
Overall ok for an IPA. Would be better if the pineapple was a little more pronounced so that you know its there. If you weren't told that there's pineapple in it you probably wouldn't know.

Orangey gold with generous head. Strong, sweet (almost candy) tropical fruit aromas: pineapple, papaya, berries, grapefruit. Hint of pine. The fruit is present in the taste to a lesser degree, balanced with a little malt. Not terribly bitter, a little sweet, and lightly carbonated.

Kona Brewing Co. "Gold Cliff IPA"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, coded "20:20 01 APR1018" whatever that means
$1.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: So this is a new one for me, and I'm guessing for Kona as I thought I'd had all of the beers that they bottle. Where was this brewed but the way? Ha, it doesn't say. The label lists Kona, Hawaii but also Portland, Oregon, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. My guess is Portsmouth as that's the closest to me. Anyway, it's poured a very hazy golden body beneath a short head of white foam. I can smell a little bit of pineapple from arms length but let me take a closer look... ahhh, nice, much more hoppy and with additional tropical notes (mango, papaya, grapefruit, pine, berries). Well I'm turned around by the aroma. The appearance wasn't so hot with the head dropping fairly quickly, although it has held, but the aroma is fantastic. The label says it's brewed "with Real TROPICAL PINEAPPLE" but also lists "NATURAL FLAVOR". I don't care where it comes from as long as it's good, so let's check on the flavor... ahhh, again, very nice, there's just enough pineapple to it that it's clear and although it's the main note it's not so bold that it blocks out the rest. There's a nice grainy malt base, and the previously mentioned hop notes. Yeah, that's pretty nice. It's got a nice balance to it due to a stiff bitterness, probably around 50 IBUs. Medium bodied and crisp. Very nice. Worth trying.

Bottle dated May 18:
Pours a nice, clear golden color with a couple finger of foamy off-white head. Lacing is streaky in a few spots, but the head is long-lasting as a full cap.

Nose has a little bit of citrus and maybe just a hint of unripe pineapple against a pine needle to grassy bitterness.

Flavor is a bit more balanced with a grainy malt opening and a lightly prickly carbonation. An air of fruitiness, thogh it's not too distinct - sorta citrusy, but a little sweeter fruit than citrus without really being tropical. The bitterness is present but seems more balancing like an APA when cold. Warmth brings the bitterness forward and strengthens it, bringing out more and more pine. This puts the beer in the classic IPA realm, though there is still a fruity aspect that threads through the beer even to the end.

Given the tropical smoothies of the "new" style on the block, this is more old school, but allows some fruitiness while maintaining its identity as an IPA. Enjoyed it more as the volume in the glass got lower.

S---Pineapple is dominant. Also hoppy. Piney & fruity.

T---Pineapple is in front. Juicy fruit. Pine.

F---Wet & quenching. Mildly carbonated.

O---A nice fruit IPA. I can see several of these going down on a warm day.
