Poured 12oz bottle into tulip. Very dark mahogany brown with a 1.5 finger creamy tan head that slowly fades into a ring and leaves webbed lacing around the glass. Aroma is big with coffee right away, then some roast malt and chocolates are present, but take a back seat to the coffee. The flavor is strong with bitter coffee, hints of bakers chocolate, roasted malts and faint sweetness round out this delicious beer. A medium creamy feel that is smooth with some carbonation. A very nice coffee porter. I would suspect that it is more impressive on tap.

Had at the winter roost.
Coffee was a little tough to find at first but as it warmed and opened up there was a nice soft coffee presence. Never dominant and blends nicely with the other softer roast. A lighter body and lighter drink overall. More of a simple drinker, but there is a place for that.

Pours a deep brown to black. Nose is of roasted malt and coffee. Taste is of coffee and a little bit of chocolate and not much else. Mouthfeel is lighter than expected. It's good not great. Definitely not a dynamic brew , very basic but done right.

Pours a very dark brown with a minimal head that dissipates almost immediately and leaves no lacing. Smells of coffee, roasted malts and a hint of chocolate. Taste is pretty one dimensional--coffee, a little sweetness and a hint of chocolate. Very light bodied, watery mouth feel, lightly carbonated almost like drinking ice coffee.

A decent offering from Kona this time with a strong coffee-tasting porter...

Beautifully dark...and that's where it ends. The head quickly dissipates and there is no lacing to mention. There is a distinct coffee smell to it, a little booziness as well, but not overpowering and somewhat difficult to pull out, but it's there. At first the brew sloshed around my tongue clean, but then the carbonation took over and overpowered the slight astringent feel. I did enjoy the taste - strong, dark-roasted coffee flavor with the same boozy taste as it's smell (surprising considering it's only 5.4% ABV.) In the end, I liked it, not overly impressed or overwhelmed (as with most other Kona's) but glad I gave this one a try.

Great dark black with a creamy light tan foam ring. Creamy coffe on the nose. The taste is great. Cocoa truffles with cream and a nice light smooth coffee bitterness. A mellow woody dried coconut husk adds an understated earthy tone. Just a bit of residual brown sugar sweetness and clean light canola bean balances the dry coffee nicely. On the downside the beer felt too light and thin, but halfway through I felt like the dryness made up for the lighter body. The sweet and dry dichotomy is very nicely balanced. Quite tasty low key porter.

First time I've seen this beer here in NY. Drank it right from the bottle so I can't comment on color. Taste is slightly sweet with coffee and just a bit of chocolate aftertaste. Smell is rich and inviting. Mouthfeel is a bit less full than other dark beers.

Draft poured into plastic cup @ DWorld. This one is hard to find in metro Atlanta so I grabbed the opportunity! Dark pour with modest head. Hints of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and hint of coconut (?). Well balanced with coffee notes very evident and lingering on palate.

Poured from the tap into a 20 OZ mug at the Taco Mac in Atlanta, GA. The appearance is a dark brown to black color with a small tan head. The aroma is roasted malt and a little coffee. The taste was more coffee driven. I really enjoyed this beer.

L: Black with dark brown highlights. Brown head with minimal retention, and some spotty lacing.

S: Very pleasant robust coffee, with a backdrop of sweet dark chocolate, toasted to almost burnt bread, and some caramel.

T: Nicely balanced dark toasted, almost burnt bread, and medium-roast robust coffee, along with chocolate, burnt sugar, and caramel pushing some sweetness in.

F: The lighter side of medium. Moderate carbonation. A bit lacking, but drinkability is very high.

O: I really like this. Most coffee porters and stouts are way too bitter, sweet, thick, or strong to drink more than one or two of at a time. This is refreshing and I feel like I could easily crush a six pack. This is a coffee beer I could drink all day long. An excellent beer for heavy coffee drinkers!

Look: Dark body, with it being a coffee flavor I was almost tempted to throw it on ice with milk.
Smell: Hints of dark coffee beans sprinkled in. Just enough to excite the palate without straying from it's beer origins.
Taste: Slightly bitter, similar to a black coffee. As I fancy bitter drinks it rolls around the mouth smoothly.
Feel: I always have been fond of Kona's bottle look as it's laid back and unique. This brew is no different.
Overall a great beer to try. I'd recommend for a morning after thanksgiving drink with a few pals. Enjoy!

Out of the bottle poured a deep black, opaque, with a thin lasting tan head. I got notes of coffee, chocolate, cola, sweet roasted malt, and blackstrap molasses. No hops that I could detect, but some slight roasted malt bitterness. Surprisingly light bodied and drinkable.

Coconut. I love coconut, but apparently not in my beer. Coconut is in the aroma and the taste, overpowering both. It isn't bad, and I know that this is a good brewery. The coconut isn't always front and center, but it's always there, and I think I might like it without the addition. The coffee addition is there as well, but blends better with the porter style, but really isn't necessary to me. You may like it, and I think for the style it is well done.

The coffee flavor is there, but not in an overpowering way. The flavor definitely smacks of Porter but it's not your typical English Porter, an excellent brew.

Dark brown pour, glimmers of red. Tan head, 1/2" deep. Uniform lace. Coffee smack on the aroma tip.

Taste hits with more coffee, not overpowering, but also above being merely complimentary. Truly a porter that is lighter in base and heft than a stout. Its a bitter excursion, likely moreso from the coffee and roasted malt moreso than any hopping, which does not leave a hoppy taste or mouthfeel, merely bitterness that is still enjoyable with everything else going on.

My favorite Hawaiian beer.

L: Almost opaque brown, with some head with lacing
S: Sweet, chocolate notes overpower the coffee. The sweetness leads itself to almost a bit of fruityness.
T: Definitely the sweet aspect is the first thing you notice, followed by a nice roasty malt. You get the coffee in the aftertaste which also provides a bitterness. Low to no hop character, as it should be. Does not have the "punch" that a typical porter has due to the sweetness factor.
F: Medium body with enough carbonation to make it interesting. Smooth drinking but not creamy or foamy.
O: Good, would drink again, might not directly search out though.

Kona Brewing Co. "Pipeline Porter"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, production coded "14:38 3 SEP 02 15"
$1.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Kona's Pipeline Porter is a typical American porter with a clean yeast profile, medium-rich chocolate notes, and a good bit of coffee flavor from 100% Hawaiian Kona coffee. It's nicely balanced with a moderate bitterness, allowing just a little bit of sweetness from the malt to remain; and the hop flavors are kept well in check so as not to distract from the coffee. It mainly expresses chocolate, toasted nuts, golden caramel and coffee, with the coffee being quite clean and straightforward: gently roasty and somewhat toasty and nutty. It's surprisingly fresh tasting, and not acidic at all, without any brashness or harshness to the roasted edge. It's really quite drinkable in its great balance, and it's got enough depth of flavor and complexity to keep it interesting without becoming challenging.

I'm very impressed with Kona' s offering as the porter genre wouldn't seem to fit Kona. The coffee in this is superb and it provides a nice bit of chocolate malt. It is a touch thin but I love the coffee forward flavor.

Dark ruby body, creamy tan head that leaves an archipelago of lace. The smell... oh yes. Coffee up front with a warm background of sweet caramel and toasted malt, nutty, faint chocolate. The flavor lets on more acidity, fitting for coffee although not my preference, with more roasted malt, more chocolate, and only hints of the caramel. Faint appearance of hops on the late palate, not enough to disturb the warm flavors going on but enough to say hey, I'm still a beer. Very fluid and drinkable body, medium carbonation.
Wonderful beer. The flavor was a bit acidic for my preferences but was otherwise great, and the smell was with the best of them. Aloha indeed.

Drank a bottled August 26th, 2015 on February 21, 2106. Pint glass. Low carbonation, lingering aftertaste of coffee and hops. Good looking and smelling beer; better aroma than taste.

12oz bottle poured into a goblet, bottled 8/27/15

A- pours a deep brown color with some light creeping through, small fizzy off-white head retains shortly before disappearing completely

S- fresh Kona coffee aroma up front, followed by brown malts, brown bread and hints of caramel & brown sugar

T- sweet, nutty and malty base gives way to notes of Kona coffee, that adds some earthy/herbal elements. Notes of caramel & molasses close it out, with a linger of more coffee

M- medium body with low carbonation produces a slightly thin mouthfeel that turns foamy into the finish

O- a nice sessional brown ale with a good balance of coffee, this beers seems to taste twice as good in Hawaii though

A - Dark brown body, mostly opaque, with some transparency around the edge. Light tan head, short, and quick to fade. A bit of lacing.

S - Mostly earthy malt, clay and chocolate. Quiet.

T - Bread, chocolate, and roasted malts. Mild minerality, and a slight, coffee bitterness in the close.

M - Brisk carbonation, slight stickiness, clean close.

O - Smart, easy porter. A bit light, but the coffee needs to be more forward.
