Appearance: clear, leather brown in color, small head, high carbonation

Smell: roasted malt and coffee

Taste: coffee, toasted malt, dark chocolate and a bit of cream

Mouthfeel: moderate carbonation, sweet, medium-light bodied

Drinkability: This is the best beer I have had from Kona and I wish I could get it more easily here. I could have six. I love the multiple layers of coffee and chocolate. This has a different taste than most in the style.

12oz brown bottle with a packaged on freshness date.

Billowing light brown head towers over the nearly black liquid, good head retention as well. Smells strong of dark roasted coffee, dark unsweetened chocolate and a hint of wood charcoal. Smooth with a lush medium body. Firm coffee flavor from the start holds on to the palate for a long time, firm but not dominant. Malt sweetness chimes in with a quick but faint burnt sugar flavor, then it all goes towards a mild roasted grain tone. The modest hopping lets the coffee shine. Finishes bitter sweet like an iced espresso.

Good stuff here. Certainly not in your face but it does capture the coffee flavor that most brewers seem to miss by either not having enough or becoming too acrid. Very well balanced.

Saw this one today at the store and figured I had to try a couple. Limited Release Porter made with 100% Hawaiian Kona Coffee according to the label. Poured a jet black color with a nice 1 inch beige head that receeded rapidly to nice lacing. Smell is huge, lots of coffee, hints of chocolate in the background. Taste is all coffee, tastes like porter put through a coffee filter. Just massively coffee tasting. Mouthfeel is full, creamy, nice coffee/hop bitterness in the finish. Drinkability is high, this is a tasty brew, if you see it, give it a try. I know I am gonna go back for more.

It's time again to rescue long-forgotten beers from the back of the gaping maw of my fridge. This arrived long, long ago courtesy of skuter, who likely doesn't even remember the trade.

Pours black. Smell is strong & luxurious for such a low ABV event, thick, sweet malts & mild coffee.

This bottle of Pipeline Porter has been sitting in the fridge for probably a year & hasn't missed a beat; pretty impressive. Strong black coffee is the theme, with an additional slab of roast bitterness to assure the drinker gets the point. Faint milkiness, too. If they were aiming to get a thicker version of coffee, they hit the nail on the head.

Good beer. Nothing extraordinary for a coffeed-up porter, just a solid drinker.

A -One fingers worth of light tan creamy smooth fizzy head... The deepest of dark brown colors... Sluggish small bubbled carbonation crawls up the sides of the glass... Some minor lacing clings to the glass...

S - Simply stellar coffee aroma... If there is one thing better than coffee, it's Kona coffee, and this brew is loaded with it... Also present are ample amounts of roasted malts and chocolate...

T - Really rich... The coffee, roasted malts, and chocolate are in near perfect harmony... Wonderful balance... The flavors are more subdued on the palette, but still bursting with flavor...

M - Medium bodied... Exceedingly thin... Exceedingly creamy given the watery thin nature... Minimal carbonation...

D - This is really awesome and sessionable brew... A little more rich creaminess and this could be a top notch world class American Porter... Even without that, this is one of the best coffee infused offerings out there today... I would welcome this in my glass any day...

Pipeline Porter is very dark in color with a light brown head that did not last long. No lacing left on the glass.

Lightly carbonated. The mouthful is watery for a porter.

It has a nice coffee flavor. Very easy to drink.

Nothing spectacular, but very enjoyable.

Very pleasant and drinkable porter. Creamy, rich complexion upon initially drinking, but then finished relatively crisp, which is something I was not expecting.

Not overwhelming or groundbreaking by any means, but very easy and pleasant to drink. I've had it once on tap as well and found that experience about on par with the bottle.

Glad to find this one...

A: Dark with ruby highlights and little head the quickly disappears. Nothing special here.

S: Not much of a scent. I have to sniff hard to get a good smell of it. Hints of coffee scent. That's about it.

T: Good, but not great. Tastes like coffee and water. Not much else going on.

M: Perfect amount of carbonation. Goes down easy.

D: Very easy to drink.

All in all. This is a decent brew to try at least once if you like porters or breakfast stouts. Reminds me of a poor man's version of Stone Kona Coffee brew.
