Notes: Swimming in a fresh water pool at the base of a cascading waterfall is what we all imagine we would find in paradise. On Maui, follow the old Hana Highway and you will find such a place – Wailua Falls. This plunging cascade of clear water is the inspiration for our Limited Release Wailua Wheat Ale. This golden, sun colored ale has a bright, citrus flavor that comes from the tropical passion fruit we brew into each batch. Sit back, relax and enjoy paradise anytime.

Very Average beer, the bland wheat is spiced up with Passion fruit , but not overpowering enough to be distinct. Again it's not bad, a good party drink l, just nothing to write home about

Overall a solid wheat beer. More of an american than german weiss. Good taste with fruit flavors. Would buy again but for a lower price. At 10 a six pack not worth compared to others.

Not usually a wheat beer fan and stayed away from this despite really enjoying their other brews. Big mistake. Great beer, refreshing and different. Worthwhile and moderate abv allow for multiple enjoyment opportunities!

The beer is a clear golden yellow with visible carbonation and a head that thinned out. Slight tropical fruit, slight wheat, small hint of hops on the nose. The beer has a strong wheat flavor and very minor fruit or hop flavors. The beer is crisp but watery at the same time.

Definyly not the prettiest. No head from an aggressive pour. The smell is a nice balance between hops and malt. The taste is very delicious. I enjoy the balance.

Picked up a mixed 12 pack at the local Foodland for $15.99 for the stay here at Kahana Beach in Lahaina, Maui. Looks like it was bottled on 02-08-18.

Beer pour golden orange with a solid white head upon the initial pour.

Nose is wheat malts with an ever so slight suggestion of tropical fruit.

Taste is bready malt baseline with a generous addition of passion fruit.

Mouthfeel is light and refreshing, spot on for Maui.

Overall another easy drinker for another sunny day on the west side of Maui!

Hoppy fruit front with a grainy follow-thru. Short and to the point.

Taste rating in words: it's a drag boat race. Water flys and the finish is quick.

Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. Date code stamped on label is 'AUG1717'.
Very clear, deep gold colored body. Minimal head upon pouring disappears, with rising bubble fed thin ring. No lacing.
Aroma is sweeter fruit and slightly spicy wheat.
Taste is fruity sweet but cardboard flat at the same time. Some reminders of spicy wheat in the background.
Thin to medium mouth feel, decent carbonation.
Aroma and taste sensory characteristics are quite thin and without high notes. Could be a poundable summer refresher, but the flat sweetness may get to be too much after a couple of beers worth.

L: a nice golden orange with a thin layer of white head
S: subdued fruit aromas with some pilsener-esque hop aroma as well
T: some juicy fruit flavors with the same pilsener-esque hops flavors.
F: Medium-light body, crisp, with a great carbonation feel.
O: this beer was sub-par, but not "bad"

Meh. This six pack was on sale for 4.99, which is the only reason I don't regret the purchase. It's far too fruity, and something about the smell of passionfruit has an unpleasant pissy smell when combined with beer. I'd pass on this one.

L: effervescent brilliant gold under a 1/2" off-white cap with fair to poor retention

S: aromas are wheat and passion fruit slightly tarnished by a hint of oxidation

T: Passion fruit leads the flavors followed by traces of wet cardboard and wheat

F: a crisp drink with a medium light body and medium high carbonation

O: a drinkable, refreshing beer with a pleasant level of passion fruit well balanced by a bitter hop accent

I was glad to find this at a japanese liquor store because I like what Kona brews and it wasn't available in Europe so far...
To make things even better, this Wailua Wheat is a wheat ale brewed with passion fruit and thanks to their recipe and brewing technique it doesn't resemble a wheat beer at all! By saying this I must include that I'm not really a fan of wheat beers or anything that has an intense taste of yeast... but this one is different. It tastes like an ale, the fruitiness makes it taste a bit hoppier than it really might be and somewhere, way behind it all you are reminded that it is supposed to be a wheat infusion overall. But this is just perfect as it is.
I loved this beer for its fruitiness, zestiness and for NOT being your typical wheat beer. Would choose it again instead of a weizen or a wit.

Draft at Honolulu airport. Golden / bronze body, mostly clear, with a small ringlet of head. Aromas of sweet malt. Thin body with a hint of pineapple-like sweetness. Needs more body and carbonation. Meh.

Kona Brewing - maybe not the best but certainly not the worst...

Pretty much across the board this wheat beer was, for the most part, decent enough. I wanted to really like this, I like passion fruit, but there wasn't enough of it to go around either in the smell or taste. Though not overly impressed, I will keep an eye out for future Konas. You never know when you might come across something truly special, regardless of the brewer...

Somewhat hazy pale yellow body with a white head that at times looks creamy but is interrupted by fizzy blotches. The nose is sharp, reminding me of cheap adjuncts like corn, or pilsner malt at best. There is some passionfruit detected, but it seems tangy and only accentuates the unpleasant malty notes. The taste is worse; instead of reminding me of cheap beer, this tastes like it, too, with the passionfruit component only watering it down, if that's possible. The body is alright. It's light, kinda fizzy, and slightly sticky.
I don't expect great beer when it has fruit added, but at least something fun-ish. Even so, this was a letdown. There was no wheat that I could find, only adjunct malts, and the passionfruit threw gas on the fire by highlighting this and yet at the same time taking flavor away from the whole. Still, it wasn't bad enough to deter me from trying other fruit-added brews, from Kona or others.

Aroma on this beer is a bit disappointing - it says it's brewed with tropical fruit and passion fruit but I am not getting any fruity notes, just some sweet malts. The taste is also underwhelming - not much to write home about. This tastes more like a fruit beer, not a wheat. I really wanted to like this one since I have much respect for Kona Brewing (I toured the brewery in 2016 and had some amazing samples from their tap room.) It is a clean tasting smooth summery brew so if you lower your expectations this one ain't bad.

Light, golden and clear with a dense creamy foam cap. White bread on the nose with a touch of mineral and just a little raspberry. Taste is light wheat cracker with a honey sweetness and a distinct sweet sour passion fruit aftertaste with floral cherry blossom. Its nice, the fruit isn't overt, but a nice zip at the end that goes well with the wheat. A tangerine home sweetness builds. Unfortunately, an overly sweet syrupy feel from too much unfurmented sugar doesn't work well for me. Its too thick leaving a sticky feel out of balance with the taste. It's a tasty beer, but just a bit cloying.

Very traditional golden color. light head that dissipates quickly. Not overly 'wheaty' in appearance. Sweet, fruity smell. Crisp flavor, fruity aftertaste. Again, not overly 'wheaty' in taste. Very light feel overall. Refreshing, but not a tremendous beer experience. I like this beer and I would definitely buy it again, but it is somewhat unremarkable. On a hot day this would be very refreshing and enjoyable, though that could be in part due to the excellent label and branding. Final final thoughts are that this is an extremely drinkable and enjoyable beer, but it is not remarkable. I would recommend it, but don't expect an unforgettable experience out of this beer.

Pours a traditional golden yellow with good foam and minimal lacing. Smells of wheat, fruit, and floral. The taste is very light but good flavors, you get the wheat and tropical fruits up front with a soapy finish that is pretty pleasing. This to me is a very light beer, but not lacking in taste, it is perfect for a hot day or BBQ, my only desire would be a little more depth on the flavors but not bad.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 11/16/2016. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lemon, passion fruit, melon, berry, pineapple, pear, wheat, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, and floral/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt, tropical fruit, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, passion fruit, melon, berry, pineapple, pear, wheat, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, and floral/yeast earthiness. Light floral bitterness and slight tart/tangy wheat on the finish; lingering notes of lemon, passion fruit, melon, berry, pineapple, pear, wheat, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, and floral/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and balance of pale malt, tropical fruit, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Minimal dryness. Light-medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately bready/grainy mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.4%. Overall this is a nice fruited pale wheat ale. All around good robustness and balance of pale malt, tropical fruit, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth, clean, and refreshing to drink. Very flavorful, well balanced, and not watery feeling for the ABV. A pleasant and nicely enjoyable offering.

Clear gold, with a slight haze and two fingers of dense white head that leave heavy lacing. Slightly fruity "lager" aroma: sweet bread, floral hops, passion fruit. This continues to the taste, with a not-ideal metallic element added to the mix and lingering light lemon peel and wheat in the aftertaste. Somewhat soft, hefe-like mouthfeel. It's okay.

Sweet, tropical, and obviously a wheat beer, but a good one at that. I can definitely taste the passion fruit and some slight esters as well as the wheat malt.

It pours a hazy golden color with little to no head. Has a good beer smell and taste with hints of citrus and a little hop. Good carbonation with an easy swallow. Would definitely have again.

Pours a deep golden color. Smells of overripe tropical fruits on the nose. Taste sweet. Overipe mango and a bit of citrus. Description says the beer is bright but I found the fruityness to be dull and muttled. Medium body. It was okay

The pour doesn't necessarily make you think this has a substantial wheat quotient, but it truly is there, despite the lack of 'haze' in this one. There's haze, but its minimal, have you thinking they only used 5% wheat or something, replete with 1/2" white head. Aroma actually yielded some mild hop notes and barely any wheat.

Taste though had a mild tropical Hawaiian feel to it. Light bodied, easy drinking beer with no flaws. Hot weather is suited for this one, smooth not bitter.
