an absolute ripper of a new wheat beer for summer from these guys, our sixer of cans was gone before we knew it, definitely a warm weather drinker, we blasted through a few up at the lake yesterday, just right in high summer. its a light wheat ale done with orange and pineapple and lime, all of which seem natural enough in here. just a kiss of sweetness from the pineapple, but with the lime being the most forward of the fruits in aroma and in flavor. the wheat malt is very minimal in here, so this does drink a little juice-like or even cocktail-esque, which i guess was the objective. in another context i might miss more beery elements, but as a cold refresher from the can, its hard to complain that this doesnt have more wheat character to it. the orange is the unifying element, the high carbonation makes it brisk to drink even though its not quite dry, and the overall lightness is really appealing in the heat. ever so slightly cheap tasting as it warms, but i hardly let it get there. a tasty easy drinking crowd pleaser here, even a coconut hint to it. i cant help but think they missed an opportunity to make a more interesting beer called mai thyme, with the herb added for a twist, maybe a future batch? anyway, this hit the mark this weekend, not over flavored at all.

Kona Brewing Co. "Man Time"
12 fl. oz. can, "PKGD ON APR 06 20". Sampled on JUL 12 20.
$1.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: So what do we have here? "Ale brewed with orange, pineapple, and lime with natural flavors added". It's a hazy golden in color beneath a short head of white foam. The aroma is fruity and sweetish. I mainly get pineapple but it smells more like pineapple candy than actual fruit. There's some lime and orange there as well. Was there anything else listed? No. There's a touch of malt to it though. OK, smells good enough, let's taste it... ahh, well, that's not quite what I was expecting but everything seems to be there. It seems kind of muddled. The lime cuts through easily, while the orange is dull and the pineapple is pushed to the side, still seeming artificial. I'd say that maybe if it warms a bit it might change but this isn't exactly the kind of beer you drink warm now is it. Meh. It's OK, but I'm certainly not dying for another sip. I think they jumped the shark with the lime, it's just too much. The head didn't hold very well, and there's no real lacing left behind on the glass. In the mouth it's medium-light in body and crisp. The maltiness lingers in the mouth a bit but it's not sweet. That's not surprising as there's very little bitterness to it. Somehow I thought it would be more refreshing, and in the end I guess I'd rather just have a straightforward wheat beer than one that's so poorly mocked up with fruit.
