Fire Rock Pale AleFire Rock Pale Ale
Notes: Fire Rock Pale Ale is crisp, refreshing “Hawaiian-style” pale ale. Its signature copper color results from the unique blend of specialty roasted malts. The pronounced citrus-floral hop aroma comes from the liberal amounts of Galena, Cascade & Mt.Hood hops added to each brew.

Opaque orange body with off white head that quickly disappears.
Rich malty aroma, almost citrus sweet.
Complex flavor. Rich malt flavor tastes darker than the color of the brew led me to expect. Buttered popcorn. Earth. It just does not balance out. Oddly sweetish earth on the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Medium
Drinkability: Not without food.

Every once in a while you just have to grab a brew with a lizard on the label. A hazy golden amber liquid greets the drinker. The quick thin lace gives way to a very slight earthy aroma. An initial sharper bitterness with a hint of floral spice. The malt presence is very limited at first, but grows heavier and becomes quite apparent in the finish.

Coppery golden in color with minimal amount of off-white head.
Aroma of lightly roasted malt and citrusy hops.

Taste: Decent roasted malt backbone with a hop bite that's respectable, but mild for a pale ale. My major issue with this beer is that something is off. There is an astringent, medicinal, bitter character that's overwhelming the good aspects of this beer. It's prominent on the sides of the tongue, but seems to be on the back of the tongue as well.

Mouthfeel is good minus the excessive astringency.
Drinkability obviously suffers due to what I am perceiving as an off-flavor.
I'm curious if this beer is better on tap, but I'd pass on a 2nd offering in the bottle although there seems to be a decent beer lurking underneath.
