S: quite aromatic, with hints of mango and other fruits
T: moderate on the ibu scale but well rounded on flavor
F: medium body and carbonated slightly more than other ipas
O: quality ipa with crisp taste and feel, it could be more bitter/hoppy but i would recommend it

I will be honest with you. The only reason I bought this beer was for the bottle. Then I tried the beer and wanted to buy it again, sadly I bought when my store was no longer carrying it. It was the last six pack that they would ever have. It was a delicious IPA. I'm an IPA man because the ABV is usually higher, and in many cases make it easier to drink. That is probably just a personal preference to my liking, but nevertheless this beer caught me by surprise. It is able to be enjoyed from the bottle or poured into a glass. The pour isn't all that entrancing like many other beers, but it has a nice distinction to it that I loved. The head was sharp and piercing, but didn't over kill the deliciousness.

On tap at Kona Grill in Woodbridge. Pours an effervescent, golden hue with minimal frothing. Mild aroma replete with hints of grapefruit, citrus, and pine. Similar overall flavor profile.

Pours a two finger white head that fades very slowly to a thin layer leaving a good lace. Light hazy straw color. Light-medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Grapefruit hop nose and flavor is light grapefruit, lingering bitter after taste. In $9.99 6-pak Shaw's Supermarket Concord, NH. Bottled Sep 2016.

Redeemed by aroma. Pours an orangish gold with a chill haze. A finger of white foam rests on top. Aroma ia citrus, and floral, and a little soapy. Tastes a bit bitter, some orange rind, but much more subtle than the aroma. Went very well with pineapple, though.

Fades into a crisp, hoppy, citrus beer that that finishes the sentence off in a grainy period.

Taste Rating in Words: It's surfing, there is some work involved but it the joy and rush of adrenaline makes it all worth it.

From a bottle, pours as clear yellow with a white head. Hops aroma and hops-forward taste and bitterness with a tangy grapefruit astringency. There are follow
on flavors of caramel and grass.

Poured from a 12oz bottle. Bottled on July 25/2016.
A: Pours a Hazy Golden with a thin white head and minor lacing.
S: A nice floral citrus nose.
T: Kind of disappointing not much on the hop end at all more of a pale Ale. Minor hop bitterness.
F: medium body and carbonation clean finish.
O: An ok IPA but so many are better than this one, pretty weak for a IPA.

Poured a golden color with a bit of haze. One finger of froth. Good bit of piney hops on the nose. Unfortunately the taste doesnt follow the nose. The hops kinda fall flat and a lot of grain comes through on the taste...especially the back end. It's not a bad beer but doesn't compare to the better IPAs out there.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Shaker pint glass, "production date" 5-1-16.

APPEARANCE: pours a hazy, golden color with less than one-finger white head that quickly dissipated until a thin, broken layer of small bubbles remained, there is some lacing on the glass, medium carbonation.

SMELL: bread, brown sugar, flowers and citrus, there is a faint metallic note.

TASTE: initially sweet brown sugar and bread then a nice grapefruit citrus hop profile, there is also an earthy metallic note at the end.

PALATE: medium body and carbonation.

OVERALL: this is a good IPA, it's balanced, I enjoyed it but there are better options available so I would probably not seek this one out again.

Castaway IPA brewed by Kona Brewing Co., with an ABV of 6.00% This brew pours out a nice golden amber color with a nice white head. The smell of Castaway IPA is rich with grains and malts. There is also a nice amount of hops in the smell of this brew. This brew has the look and smell of most IPA's on the market. Not saying that is a bad thing. Now for the taste, it is bold with flavors. You first pick up on hoppy flavors , fallowed by grains and malts. There is a lot going on in Castaway IPA, this IPA has a real nice flow to it. It is really hard to pick up on the 6.00% ABV in this brew. I can't get over how smooth this IPA goes down. Castaway IPA , has a real nice balance to it, there is nothing overpowering about this brew. The mouth feel of Castaway IPA is Bold, rich, clean, smooth and refreshing. Overall I'm giving Castaway IPA a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely buy this brew again. Kona Brewing Co., Did a real nice job with this IPA.

Color light amber, golden, hazy. White and yellow head, not too high, is reduced to a larger rim.
The aroma of delicate fruit with a leading resin, caramel.
Taste: Again fruit, mainly oranges and lemons in the background mango and resin.
Gentian long, clear, grapefruit. The loading medium toward high.

Okay golden bronze appear race with little head a wimpy residual despite carbonation level. Smells of robust citrus as one would expect of an IPA hailing from Hawaii. Grapefruit seems to be the dominate aroma. Tastes full-bodied as the citrus and citric hops shine through. Finishes nicely with grapefruit/citrus and a bitter hop flavor linger on the pallatte. This is a decent IPA that I'd drink again although it's not a typical one. It's a bit softer and more akin to a saison. The flavor profile is not as complex as I hoped for but still a fair choice for the summer-time outdoors.

My current favorite beer. This is the 1st beer over last 30 years I litterly crave in the evening after work.
The wonderful aftertaste last for a good 5-10 minutes.
Color is very bold and sharp. Smell is sharp but it is an appealing sharp fruity
aroma. This will be my go to spring and summer beer.

Review #250, which is a nice occasion to drink a beer from a tropical island in the Pacific. Copper colour with little to no haze and a decent head of foam. Gentle smell of pine, fruits and flowers. The taste is also quite fruity, with grapefruit being prominent here, and a piny finish. Nice balance, though a bit more complexity in taste would have been nice. Mouth feel is medium with light carbonation. Not an IPA that will blow you away, but all in all a very enjoyable drink. Wouldn't mind having another.

It starts off with a kick and strong hoppy flavor but isn't bitter and has a clean finish. It reminds me of Great Lakes Brewing Chillwave. Not quite as good but also a better bargain. I'd say this is a goto IPA for me, or one that I would drink often.

The fizzy and full off-white froth goes big and doesn't go home. Color is clear and brassy. Has pine, perfume and subtle light fruits in the aroma. More fruits (mango, orange, peach) to the tongue before a wave of pine and florals come into play. Light to medium and goes down way easy.

A very approachable yet tasty IPA that proves corporate rock doesn't always suck.

Castaway IPA | Kona Brewing Co. Poured from the bottle into a glass, this brew's head is two fingers thick, with laterl lacing, and a hazy golden body.

Smells like fairly light hop notes and and "biscuit" malts.

I taste a well-established biscuit/cracker malt backbone among tamer citrus and "tropical" hop notes. I'll have to agree with @Kendo that this is coming off as more as a session IPA or just an APA, rather.

The mouthfeel here is medium-light with mild carbonation.

I'll give Castaway IPA | Kona Brewing Co. an overall rating of a 4.25. Again, nothing that will wow, but it goes down perfect;y on a stifling day.

A: Poured from the bottle into a Piraat tulip/snifter-type glass. Body is clear golden- orangey with a half-finger of whitish head on top, which settles to leave a little bit of lace.

S: Some honey-sweet malt, florally hops and citrus peel bitterness, with a touch of cat pee.

T: Overall impression: light. Wee bit of crackery malt foundation is followed by citrus - some grapefruit, lime zest and lemon. Finishes fairly clean, with a lingering hint of lemony bitterness.

M: Light-to-medium in heft with pretty active carbonation which is not at all sharp or offensive, but rather ticklish on the palate - in a good way.

O: OK. Drinks more like a Session IPA than a straight IPA, and in some ways more like an APA than any sort of IPA.

On tap at Marriott Ko Olina in a plastic 20oz snifter. I'm diggin this more than the pale ale I had earlier. It goes down just fine with the bad ass view of the lagoons and the sound of waves hitting the rocks. I'll have a few more of these before I leave, even if they are super taxed at $9 each

Appearance: Dark golden, not much head, some lacing.

Aroma: Herbal and floral hop with a subtle malt base.

Taste: Grassy, flowery hops that don't tip into overly bitter. Maybe a slight hint of citrus (lemon). There's subtle malt, but it takes a back seat.

Feel: Medium-bodied, moderate carbonation. Sticks around in the mouth a bit, but not like syrup.

Overall: This is one of my go-to IPAs (my preferred style). It's not overbearing, goes well with a lot of foods and the ABV isn't so high that I can't have more than one.

From a 12 oz bottle.
Good, typical appearance. Low hop and high malt/hop balance in the aroma but the flavor is hop dominated. Nonetheless, bready malts come out again in the aftertaste.
Moderately bitter.
