This beer has a nice aroma to it & goes down pretty smooth. It's not too hoppy, but it's certainly hoppy enough.

The appearance was a nice glossy clear yellow to golden amber color. The lacing, oh yeah, spectacular, as it looks just like any other craft beer, it speckles a bit and shows a decent semi-thickness running about the glass. It absolutely looks superbly. The smell, geeze louise, uh...super nice grapefruit bitter hoppiness with some other nice citrusy aspects coming out as it warms. I will say that there is a nice light maltiness helping to balance all of this out. The taste is pretty much on par to blow one outa the water for the "above par" AIPA as it has a super nice bittersweet grapefruit flavoring leading all of the way through. There is a semi-sweet citrus-like aftertaste and a decent bitter dry finish. On the palate, this one sits about a light to medium on the body and ends up having a fairly decent sessionable quality running about it. The carbonation does show a respectful harsh quality for a normal AIPA and tells me this is worthy. Overall, pretty good AIPA, maybe again.

Somewhat hazy light golden look with an offwhite head. Scent is of citrus hops and malt mix. A tad less sweet than I was expecting but overall flavor is pretty decent, citrus and pine start moving into a a slightly bitter finish where the malts make an appearance. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Pretty decent. I've found myself going back to this a few times. The flavor is APA like but pretty decent.

Out of a mix pack on a hot Spring afternoon, backyard shindig.
The boldest of the varieties in the box, but still a little mild for the style...then again, I live in the heart of the New England IPA uprising...surrounded by big bold local ales.
As opposed to burgers and dogs, this beer goes well with steak, and shrimps...and, a serious game of cornhole or croquet. And, I'm sure it works just as well in a red Solo cup.

Kona Brewing Company Castaway IPA
Live review. Poured from stubby 12 oz. bottle that I bought as a “mix sixer” from Giant Eagle in Madison, Ohio about a few weeks ago into a clean, clear glass. “Mix sixer“ was $10.99. Date stamped on the label says DEC 28 15. I am afraid that this is significantly past due. Keep that in mind when reading the rest of this review.
A: Basic translucent yellow body under a moderately high white head after a moderate to vigorous pour. Actually holding up nicely after what is likely about 18 months. 3.5
S: Basic floral hops, nothing remarkable. 3.0
T: Taste flows right from the smell. Basic floral hops unoffensive but safe tasting IPA. 3.0
M: Pretty basic IPA feel, thin at first, some smoothness and then a bite of hops bitterness near the end. Very distant syrupy thin layer left behind. 3.5
D/O: Drinkability is quite high but I would not likely reach for more than one of these. Overall a pretty basic IPA. 3.25
Notes: I had hoped for better but did not expect more than this.

Bottle poured into a Teku glass

Highly carbonated, copper liquid, frothy one finer foam cap

Faint orange citrus hop, malts, grains

Faint pine, citrus hop taste over malts

Smooth, low carbonation in the mouth, slight hop aftertaste

nice beer

Gold color with small white head. Smell is tropical fruit, oranges, citrus, hops, sweet malts. Taste follows the nose but more tartness on the front end. Also getting bready malts and a slight bitterness on the finish. Good carbonation and pretty smooth for all the flavor. Might be a bit too sweet, but very tasty. A different take on the style. Sampled from bottle. I've also had on tap and it was equally as good. Good price tag, as well.

Pours a nice golden color with a finger of white head. Smells of citrus, malt, and hops. Tastes of fresh citrus, hop and bitterness, and some malt. Light-Medium mouthfeel with low carbonation. Overall probably one of my favorite showings by Kona brewing.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a speiglau IPA glass.

Look is a golden light amber with a thin head.

Aroma is earthy hops with a slight lager twang at the end.

This tastes much better than it smells. No lager metallic note just a thin malt and hop balance.
