Collaboration with Bottle Logic Brewing
My Mug, My Rules is a collaborative Hot Cocoa Imperial Stout brewed with our great friends at Bottle Logic. We imagined taking all the enjoyable qualities of hot cocoa and incorporating them into a viscous, 12-ish percent slapper. This absolute treat is layered with flavors of dark and milk chocolate, with a soft, pillow-like marshmallow top. Brewed with coffee, cocoa nibs, marshmallows, and milk sugar.

Pours a dark brown small fizzy head with med retention, fair lacing, decent legs, jet black color
nose is very sweet, candy like marshmallows, some nutty coffee and general nutty aroma, caramel, fudge, cocoa and dark chocolate, bit of roast
Taste starts with more rich cocoa and fudge, as well as candy, fair sweetness, plenty of marshmallow flavor, a little roasted coffee and some nutty flavors again, little caramel, nougat, lots of candy bar, a light alcohol, light roast in general, some bitterness, sticky sweet finish
Mouth is med to fuller bod, a little creamy rich, med foamy carb, light warming slight tingle alcohol
Overall not bad, a bit on the sweet side but that's what they were going for, decent base stout and delivers everything it promises without being too gimmicky, so cool

I got a can of this beer off the single shelf from my local beer store just around the corner. It poured an opaque dark with tan head that is leaving some lace. The scent had chocolate, vanilla and white creme fluff. The taste was a beautiful S'more flare. The mouthfeel was fuller in body and had smooth carbonation. Overall it is an excellent beer.

Drank from a one pint can purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Belmont, MA

Served in a tulip
Dark brown/black appearance. Fuller bodied for the style. The oily looking liquid was topped by a finger-tall, tight and creamy, saddle brown head that fell to a thick, clingy collar. As the crown receded, a streaky wall of lacing cling to the sides of the glass.
The aroma was really rich and sweet. Huge malt presence. Both roasted and caramel malts were apparent. Powdered cocoa also came through strong. Good dose of creamy vanilla and lactose as well. I definitely picked up on the marshmallow. Both the cocoa and the vanilla intensified as the beer warmed.
The flavor profile was also fantastic and very similar to the nose. Super rich and malty. Nice blend of roasted and caramel malts. Huge powdered cocoa presence. Vanilla and creamy lactose notes were also apparent. Marshmallow for sure. Dark chocolate and dark malts came through on the back end and the finish. Hint of coffee. Zero bitterness.
The mouthfeel was full bodied for the style. Super creamy, slick and smooth. The liquid contained a finer bubbled, fairly zippy effervescence that tuned fluffy and soft on the palate.
My Mug, My Rules is Short Throw’s and Equilibrium Brewing’s collaborative attempt at a “hot chocolate beer,” and it definitely delivers. This would be perfect while sitting around a fire on a cold winter evening.
