12 Days of Christmas #10
Beer number 10 from Aldi Australia's 2023 Christmas Beer pack, courtesy of Kalea. I'm not doing these beers in order.
Vessel: 500ml Pint Can. Best before March 2025.
Appearance: Classic German/European lager look. Straw Golden, white frothy head. Completely filtered, moderate amount of bubbles.
Aroma: Very strong metallic ring. Out of all the beers in the pack, this is by far the most notable of the lot with a metallic ring. Grassy hops, good whiff of lemon rind, not the strongest malt profile, but pleasant enough.
Taste: Grainy and grassy flavours with a refreshing citric hop bitterness. Dry biscuity malt and a hint of alcohol.
Feel: Smooth, decent carbonation, refreshing.
Overall: it's a very passable example of the style, but compared to some of the examples in this pack the flavours feel a bit muted. Does have a stronger metallic fug than most beers in this pack. It's nice, just not as nice as I was hoping.

Appearance is clear light gold in color, pours a large frothy white head with excellent lasting retention. Nose is moderate uncooked bread dough malt and sweet honey with low spicy hop aroma and light honey suckle blossoms. Palate is medium carbonation and light bodied. Alcohol is medium. Low bitterness and medium sweetness. Light dough and bread crumb malt and very low spicy hop flavor. Medium finish with lingering sweetness. Very good quality!

From a can. Pours a golden yellow with a finger of thick foam. Crystal clear. The nose is crisp, grassy, herbal, and clean. Flavor is grassy, herbal, and balanced with some residual malty sweetness. Medium bodied. Finishes with a malty sweetness.

Kauzen-Bräu "Käuzle Helles Lager"
50 cl can coded "EXP 2024/03 17:31 1207MU". Sampled on 28 October 2023
Notes via stream of consciousness: A rough pour has brought up a massive head of white foam atop a lightly hazy straw gold body. The aroma expresses sweetish, grainy, and grassy malt with a distant touch of herbal and spicy hops in the background. The taste maintains the same maltiness but brings the hops into focus. A firm bitterness balances it, washing down some of the sweetness of the malt going into the finish, and then lingering with muddled herbal and spicy hop notes. It's nicely balance and rounded despite the sweetness of the malt upfront. It's fairly standard in mouthfeel with a medium body and gently crisp carbonation. The head that rose up initially, settled, and then kept settling into nothing more than a standard collar. Having said that it's not too hard to imagine that the lacing was less than perfect following what was initially left at the start. In all it's a decent enough helles but nothing spectacular.
