Our Coffee Stout is a classic combination of a traditional stout and premium French roast coffee from St. Louis roaster, Kaldi’s Coffee. Roasted barley and coffee dominate the aroma, with the sweetness from the stout balancing the acidity of the coffee. We use a unique cold toddy extraction process to brew a less acidic coffee for the beer.
In the 1990’s, Kaldi’s staff started visiting the Schlafly Tap Room, asking for a pint of stout and a shot of espresso. Both Schlafly and Kaldi’s realized this was a match made in beer heaven, and soon started working together to find the perfect coffee blend to mix with our Oatmeal Stout. This collaboration continues today, with regular tastings to perfect the Coffee Stout.

A great coffee stout very roast forward bitter roasty but balanced with sweet vanilla and chocolate notes. Body is pretty light to medium on par for the ABV. Overall worth picking up I think it was just a couple of bucks for the bottle.

Undated bottle. Dark brown with a modest tan head. Initial impression is coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, and a hint of vanilla. Mouthfeel is medium - too thin for a stout, IMHO. Finish fades to a slightly bitter charred chocolate coffee. Overall, a quite enjoyable and drinkable Stout.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip pint glass. This is a quintessential coffee stout: dark, creamy head, great lacing, roasty, lightly bitter, mocha, hint of vanilla, light earthiness, low abv. Highly drinkable and delicious.

Surprisingly good.
It is a crisper stout or a deeper Porter with a distinct coffee note backed up with chocolate and a slight smokieness.
This will pair well with cheese and summer sausage, chicken and biscuits/rice, or even potato pancakes.
It is a seasonal brew, so I can't say how it will stand over time, but it is definitely worth a try.

Body is deep brow while sporting a small tan head with good lacing. Can't escape the coffee in the aroma which obscures mostly everything else except for the roasted malts. Taste is a bit more traditional. A modest amount of sweetness from the malts along with some bitterness from the hops balances things on the palate. Tasty mouthfeel; full bodied and lightly carbonated with a long lasting finish.

Pours an effervescent dark brown color with a half finger of tan head. The nose has notes of coffee and something astringent. The flavor has mild coffee notes with a semi-dry finish.

12/31/22 Black Bear Burrito on University Dr Stop #2 for the day (after Marilyn's of Morgantown)
Pours opaque black with very slight white head.
Dead on coffee from the aroma to the flavor, to the lingering taste in the mouth. Sour at the end.
Slightly sweet, dark coffee with a light bitter bite.

Appearance is typical for the style. Aroma and the taste are dominated by coffee, but not overwhelming. Not too complicated and is an easy drinking, enjoyable beer. Would purchase again.

Love this style. This brew has a mesmerizing aroma. Silky smooth on the mouthfeel. Nice bold coffee belt. Large backbone. Taste is bold throughout. Clean on the finish. A very tasty brew.

Poured into a tall clear pint glass. Appearance is a black body with some mahogany, very thick cream beige head with good retention and lacing.
Aroma: very pleasant and lovely. Really strong roasted coffee, caramel, and dark chocolate upfront, along with some roasted malts, charred wood, milk chocolate, brown sugar, roasted barley, and nutty grains.
Taste: creamy roasted coffee like French roast and espresso, dark chocolate, roasted dark and nutty grains, roasted barley, bitter earthy hops, some sweet milky sugar, and bitter aftertaste. Body is medium-light.

L - Black with mahogany highlights with a large tan head that dissipates somewhat quickly leaving behind a tan cap and a good amount of lacing
S - A good amount of roasted coffee and chocolate with some roasted malts
T - Follows the nose: creamy roasted coffee up front and throughout along with notes of semi sweet chocolate along with roasted malts - some milk sugar adds to the overall sweet taste of the stout
F - Medium bodied with light to moderate amount of carbonation. Smooth. Maybe a little thin
O - A pretty solid coffee stout, if one dimensional
