Pours a deep brown with very little head. Great nose.....solid barrel, vanilla and oak, with some espresso in the background. Balanced taste.....great barrel presence, roast, vanilla, bittersweet chocolate, charred oak, and toffee. This is not particularly coffee forward. Feel is on the thinner side for the style with medium carbs. Overall, this is a solid BA stout that would benefit from a heavier body.

330ml bottle sealed with black pressure cap.

poured into HF wine stem.

bottled on 02.09.2017. listed abv is 10.2%

Appearance: black bodied stout. Thick 3 fingers tall off white head which drops down to thin cap leaving thin lacing on the glass. Nice legs on the side of the glass after each sip of beer.

Smell: Chocolaty stout base. Fresh, rich, and dense coffee aroma blast; the coffee smells absolutely fantastic. Really nice bourbon and oak notes consisting of vanilla, toffee, caramel, and dry earthy oak barrel.

Taste: Nice balanced approach including a fresh big rich roasty coffee that is lightly bitter plus chocolatey base stout plus nice barrel notes. This beer is a little bit coffee forward, but just the right amount of stout and barrel note sweetness is present. The coffee tastes fantastic. Light and lingering bourbon finish is wonderful. Also getting a slight hint of light smoke, tobacco, butterscotch, cola, and rootbeer notes in the finish as well.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. A lower level of moderate carbonation is present, but its not over-carbonated at all. Slight booze sting which seems fine and actually quite welcomed. This isnt motor oil, but its thick enough to carry the big flavors and thats all this stout really needs in the mouthfeel department.

Overall: This is fantastic work that Schlafly has done here. My 2nd favorite beer from this brewery and my favorite beer from this brewery comes from the Ibex series as well. This is not coincidence. I will happily drink through this 4 pack and probably wish to locate another 4 pack before its all gone from the shelf. Another beer that provides even more positive evidence that the St Louis beer scene just kills it day in and day out. Those lucky little bastards in St Louis! The coffee reminds me alot of the Barrel aged Wheelhouse coffee and that is straight up seriously delicious coffee flavor for a barrel aged coffee stout. Also...mad props to Schlafly for making this beer a 4pack format with 11.2 fl oz bottles! This is what I am talking about! Forget you large format bottles with ridiculous price gouging! Really digging the old school aspect of a 4 pack small format bottles. Mad Props for making a high quality barrel aged coffee stout and putting it in a format that is very reasonably affordable. I can totally forget about ever buying Bourbon county coffee again in my lifetime. This is an easy and logical beer to replace Goose Island capitalism ridiculousness bullshit of their 500ml bottle that looks fancy, but they have a way lower quality beer in the bottle.

Pours medium brown with slight tan head that dissipates quickly into a jet black beer. Black like a dolls eye. Then you smell that amazing high pitched heavy coffee aroma. Great flavor. Even better as it warms. The coffee blends nicely with the barrel evenly and no one component takes over more than the other. Really really nice. Had one bottle of the four pack and am going to immediately have another. Tomorrow I stock up if there is any left at the store. Very tasty.
