Style: Pumpkin Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Pumpkin Ale blends the spices of the harvest with full-bodied sweetness for a beer that tastes like pumpkin pie. Pounds of pumpkin form a malty foundation that supports the fall flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove.

While pumpkin beers were produced in the early days of the American colonies, they were different from the pumpkin beers we know today. Colonists used pumpkin and squash as the fermenting medium, since malted barley was scarce. Once malt became more readily available, it replaced these alternatives to grain. In the 1990’s, American craft brewers reintroduced the style to the delight of pumpkin beer drinkers.

I purchased a 6 pack of this from a grocery store in IL a few months back because Schlafly is not distributed here in WI.

Schlafly's Pumpkin Ale pours a dark amber hue with a thick head but there is very little lacing left afterwards.

The aroma is really nice with hints of pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon. It smells just like a pumpkin pie.

The flavor is really nice as well. It starts out smooth with all of the different pumpkin pie spices present but they are not overpowering. The finish is really nice as well. It is still very smooth with just a bit of bitterness.

This is a really solid beer all around and so far I would say this is the best pumpkin beer I have had.

12oz bottled 8/27/17 poured into a Duvel glass at fridge temp 8% ABV 16 IBU. The beer pours light reddish brown with quickly fading light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and a splotchy island in the glass. Aroma is pumpkin pie, stronger on the pumpkin than spices (cinnamon, nutmeg & clove listed on bottle.) The taste is spicy semisweet pumpkin pie. No real front or back to it, just nicely balanced tastes of pumpkin, ale and pie spice. Mouthfeel is medium to thin bodied, well carbonated and surprisingly dry in the end. Really hard to pull this off without overpowering sweetness, but they did. Overall, very good. This is the best pumpkin beer I've had hands down. Really well done and not over the top if you're just looking for one to tick.

This beer is delicious. My favorite season for beers is autum and this is my #1 pumpkin beer. I may be a little bias considering I am from st Louis. 9.1/10

Poured from a bottle into glass.
Dark amber body, light tan head and cap, very little lacing.
Bready malt aroma for the base, with nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves notes.
Taste is sweet, but not too much, with a good balance of spices and malt.
Medium body.
A very well done pumpkin beer.

Best of the style in my book. Just enough spice and pumpkin flavor, not overpowering or overly sweet like some others. Good aroma as well, with the spice coming through.

Pours a nice looking burnt orange color little darker then most pumpkin brews with a thumb sized khaki head that sadly doesn't leave any lace.

Aroma is nice good sweet malts, bready but with touches of molasses or extra sugars, pumpkin and spiced like most with cinnamon and nutmeg. Nice aroma like most pumpkins but seems to have a touch more malt, pumpkin or sweetness.

Taste is nice good malt base sweet with plenty of pumpkin notes. Finish is of course pumpkin pie spice that seems just perfect not over done as some brewers do. Or maybe this one just has enough malts to balance out the spice.

Mouthfeel is a solid medium with fairly normal carbonation.

Overall this is one tasty pumpkin brew, probably one of the better pumpkins that I have had if memory serves but at my age it usually doesn't.
