Notes:
Our American IPA gets its bold hop flavor from 100% American hops and its deep gold and full body from pale and crystal malted barley. A blend of Amarillo, Centennial and Simcoe hop varietals imparts AIPA with bitterness and prominent aromas of citrus and fruit. Our brewers select these hops on an annual pilgrimage to the hop farms of Pacific Northwest.
IPAs (India Pale Ales) were first brewed in England during the late 1700s for export overseas to British soldiers in India. To keep their beer from spoiling during the long voyage, English brewers fortified their traditional pale ale recipes with natural preservatives: more malted barley, for a higher alcohol content, and more hops. In recent decades, with growing appreciation for highly hopped beers, American craft brewers have revived the style, embraced it, and incorporated new hop varieties. Our Special Release IPAs further those traditions and showcase the distinctions of hops from different hemispheres.

A: Served in a tulip glass from a 12 oz bottle. Thin lacing with a clear, bright copper body.
S: Citrus is noticeable, hop and malt behind that.
T: Unmistakably a Schlafly beer. Since it's a 5 month old bottle, the hop bite has mellowed out a bit.
M: Finishes smooth with some malt.
O: Bottled in April, surprised how well it held up, considering I prefer IPAs fresh.

A: Orange gold with a nice layered head.
S: Big citrus, tropical fruit punch, followed with some pine and faint lemongrass notes. This thing smells amazing.
T: Right in line with the nose. Tons of juicy hops and sting the tongue with a nice malt sweetness on the back end. Drying hop finish with some citrus and lemon.
M: Silky smooth. It is a little thick for the ABV, but it doesn't take away from the taste and feel.
O: If this beer originated on the west coast, it would be all the rage. Unfortunately, I think its middle america origin will make it a bit over looked. Its a shame. Schlafly has made a real gem with this one.

12oz bottle, dated 3/16/2015, poured into a Ballast Point Victory at Sea snifter.
The beer pours a nice golden copper color, light haze but good clarity with a good solid two fingers of soapy, foamy white head, good retention yielding big swatches of soapy lace. The aroma is very nice, wonderful dry, grassy hops, wildflower, light pine, spice, resin, mild tropical fruit and a touch of grapefruit citrus. The flavors echo the nose, dry, grassy hops, a touch of dank, weedy character, pine, spice and resin, light grapefruit, nice earthy bitterness, with a really sturdy pale malt backbone. The mouthfeel is nice, crisp, coating, full bodied, lively carbonation but still gentle, very dry finish.
Verdict: A really good IPA from Schlafly, dry, crisp, bitter, earthy, grassy, bright, very nice balance. It's quaffable, refreshing and delightfully bitter, definitely a good surprise from Schlafly, kudos to them.

12oz bottle poured into a HF stemmed tulip
Pours a burnt orange color with a fluffy yellow tinged cap that rose two fingers before receding. Some spider web lacing coats the inside of the glass.
The nose is of bright hops on a light caramel malt bed. Grapefruit, oranges, lemon, sticky pine resin, and even some passion fruit. Some caramel tries to balance out all these hops.
On the palate, bright grapefruit, juicy oranges, and passion fruit greet you before a smooth wave of caramel/earthy notes. The pine resin comes out in the finish with a little sweetness from the citrus and tropical fruits before a moderate lingering bitterness.
Medium bodied, smooth with even carbonation. Oily hop profile...just plain sticky.
This guy was a pleasant surprise. Big, rich, oily hop profile with a nice malt presence. 'A IPA' is a winner. This should be a staple in your fridge.

A: Amber with a dirty orange coloration. Moderate head and little lacing
S: Clean and not overpowering. Very pleasent without hop overload
T: Very appealing. Alot like the smell, not overpowering/ Not amazing, kick you in the face hops, jsut very nicely balanced. The malt backbone definately stands up to the hops and creates a very balanced beer.
M: Moderate carbonation and pretty light for the ABV.
D: I could have quite a few of these, however, my wife wouldn't be to happy. I would buy again!

A: Pours a dark golden color with a small head and some lacing.
S: Citrus aroma, mostly grapefruit with a bit of pine mixed in. Almost overpowering.
T: Starts with an initial bitterness of citrus and pine with a bit of malt to smooth things out. Has a clean finish with just a bit of lingering bitterness. Spot on.
F: Medium body, crisp but quite smooth. No real hint of the Alcohol. Excellent balance.
O: Great IPA. I would love to have this from tap.

Sampled this one at the Cod & Cask Festival at the Taproom - Drawn from the cask a medium yellow color and almost no head`to speak of ... only spotty lacing in the standard pint glass. Nose is slightly subdued, but there is a pleasant aroma of fresh hops going on here. Dry hopped? Otherwise, carameled malts, and citrus. Palate is similar to what the nose gives away ... a relatively tame IPA, at first blush, but leaves a very nice fresh hop character in the mouth. Definitely no hop-bomb, but very subtle and well-crafted. Mouthfeel is medium and the cask beer is served warmer ... 55 degrees or so ... leaving a smooth, floral and citrus finish. Juicy. I like this beer and it is only my second cask-conditioned ale experience. I'm definitely a fan and would come back for this one again. Enough hop character to satisfy without being harsh in any way ... very smooth and tempting with the fresh hop flavors and nose. Well done, I thought.
