Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our American IPA gets its bold hop flavor from 100% American hops and its deep gold and full body from pale and crystal malted barley. A blend of Amarillo, Centennial and Simcoe hop varietals imparts AIPA with bitterness and prominent aromas of citrus and fruit. Our brewers select these hops on an annual pilgrimage to the hop farms of Pacific Northwest.

IPAs (India Pale Ales) were first brewed in England during the late 1700s for export overseas to British soldiers in India. To keep their beer from spoiling during the long voyage, English brewers fortified their traditional pale ale recipes with natural preservatives: more malted barley, for a higher alcohol content, and more hops. In recent decades, with growing appreciation for highly hopped beers, American craft brewers have revived the style, embraced it, and incorporated new hop varieties. Our Special Release IPAs further those traditions and showcase the distinctions of hops from different hemispheres.

Very drinkable aipa. Schlafly got it right on this one. I enjoy the balance of the hop varieties.

This brew is a hazy golden color with a white, frothy head. The aroma is of herbal hops, mixed with citrus. Fruit heavy scents. The taste is lightly sweet, with notable pale malt, and plenty of hops. Medium bitterness, but the citrus notes continue. Full in body and drinkable. Spicy hop finish.

This is my absolute favorite IPA! It's actually the beer that turned me on to IPAs. The fruit and citrus flavors in this beer are amazing and there is a hint of pine flavor as well.

Served in a pint glass from the bottle.

Appearance: Semi-cloudy darker gold with medium to heavy bubbles on the body. Head is straight white rising roughly one finger's length above the body.

Smell: bland hops which almost amount to nothing. Little weak in the aroma side.

Taste: Sour lemon snd grapefruit with hints of citrus. It's very bitter just to let you know, but shouldn't slow down any veteran.

Mouth: finish consists of citrus skin and heavy malts. Definitely thirst quenching, not dry at all.

Overall: Descent brew. Bitter and is full of life. Definitely a nice bridge for people to start IPAs if they haven't had the chance. Salud!

Single, twelve ounce bottle copped from Total Wine and More in West Orange. Pours a ruddy, copper-colored hue with moderate frothing. Aroma reminiscent of fresh pine, grapefruit, and citrus. Lemon zest sweetness apparent in the taste.

Poured from 12 ox bottle into Belgian style, stemmed glass. Bottled 5/26/2016

L-Hazy orange, nice finger of bubbles that faded over a couple of minutes. Doesn't say unfiltered or bottle conditioned but definite hop or fermentation bits floating around.

S-solid, heavily hopped IPA smell. Citrus, pine and the usual suspects. Citrus is more of that bitter, rind smell than a juicy, fruity aroma. Centennial for sure!

T-follows smell with some slight, caramel sweetness to balance things out but not overdone. Pretty good drinker if not a little more simple than the competition.

F-appropriate carbonation with a bit of lingering sweetness. Pretty pleasant for a largeish IPA.

O-Not the best of the best but would buy again. I could drink this one out of the bottle and not feel too bad about it either.
