Sessions Black Lager is a traditional German Schwarzbier with a refreshingly light body. The dark chocolate malts contribute color and hints of roasted coffee balanced by the delicate aroma of German Noble hops. Translated from German, Schwarzbier means black beer.
Schwarzbier originated in the 16th Century in southeastern Germany where it is still brewed today. The style enjoyed a heyday in St. Louis in the late 1800s, but large scale production of dark lagers failed to resurface after Prohibition. In 2007, the beer community of St. Louis honored St. Louis Dark Lager as the official beer of the inaugural St. Louis Brewers Heritage Festival, an annual tasting event that celebrates the many breweries thriving in St. Louis today.

Pours chestnut with garnet highlights and nearly an inch of fine, khaki foam. Mild, roasty aroma includes some caramel and noble hops.
The taste is hugely sweet up front, with a massive dose of caramel and sugar. Roasted character and a mild hop bitterness emerge after the initial wave of sweetness subsides. A peculiar undertone of apple juice can’t find its rightful place in the mix. Medium-light body and fine carbonation make for a semi-creamy mouthfeel that is appropriate for the style.
Overall, this brew comes across a little unrefined despite its acceptable presentation and mouthfeel.

Black in color with a miniscule amount of light seeping through. There's an inch of frothy beige head resting on top. The aroma is faint dark malt and chocolate. I taste a gentle amount of dark malt, caramel, and honey wheat bread with a hint of smoke. The mouth is light and gently creamy.

Morgo brought some beer back from St. Louis
Chestnut brown pour with a quick to flee head. Smells earthy like tree bark, wet mulch and . Tastes like toasted nuts, sweet dark malt and fruit. Way too fruity for the style. Fruit fades and the roast malt comes out more as it warms. Watery.

A nice deep and clear brown with a thicker tan head that settles down quickly. The aroma is a little sweet with an earthy hint. Not much dark roast going on. The taste is much the same. The body is nice and light but not watery with just a hint of carbonation. Not a bad beer but missing the schwarzbier roasts.
