750 mL bottle tried 23 Nov 2011. Served in the 0.5 L Franziskaner hefe glass.

Medium sized white head. Medium carbonation. Cloudy mustard yellow in color. Aroma of orange, yeast, wheat, a touch of ethanol. Starts similar, juicy orange, lots of yeast. Ethanol is slightly warming, medium chewy body. Lingering fruitiness, zest and juice. Hint of coriander and clove. Touch of mineral water.

Decent but not great.

Purchased this close to the source in St. Louis, MO. Poured from 750ml bottle into a snifter. A - Akin to other Witbiers, hazy light yellow with a white head. Moderate lacing and retention. S - Smells of wheat with some citrus and spice. T - More wheat on the taste than spice or citrus, very enjoyable. M - Light in body, with a generous carbonation. Very drinkable, and a good representative of the style. Not distinct by any means.

Draft poured into a snifter

A: Pours a deep but bright orange/yellow color with a dense, foamy snow white head.

S: Aroma is gratuitously Belgian with some yeastiness, apricots, fig, nutmeg, light clove and just a bit of tinniness.

T/M: Medium amount of carbonation with bready malts, apricot, tangerine and sweet melon up front and more nutmeg and cinnamon spice on the end.

It's light on the palette, finishing abruptly and while the bubbles are as prominent as in dedicated Belgians, it's dense like a true wheat and reasonably complex. Unfortunately, it's pretty average otherwise.

A- Hazy straw body with a large fluffy white head that dissipated to a foam cap and left a sparse lacing.

A- Tart wheaty aroma. Perhaps a very subtle citrus aroma, but nowhere near as prevalent as I would expect.

T- Citrus and coriander flavors are not as prominent as expected. It has a spiciness and a unfiltered wheat flavor most prominent. No alcohol or hop flavors. Tart wheaty finish. Creamy wheat aftertaste.

M- Milky smooth mouth feel. Medium-light body with moderate carbonation.

D- Quite enjoyable and worth a try.

Presentation: 750 ml painted brown bottle. Sticker on the bottom says bottled with love on 10/20/11. Picked up at the Schlafly Bottleworks.

Appearance: Super hazy dark golden-orange brew, crowned by a nice white cap with decent retention.

Smell: Tons of tart wheat up front, a hint of caramel shortbread, though there's no caramel malt in the grain bill. Subtle citrus and spice as well. Perhaps a ghost of vanilla.

Taste: Though the aromas suggest a typical (if quite pleasant) wit, the flavors don't quite line up. The citrus and spice are more restrained than I was expecting from the aromas, remaining subtle throughout, and becoming more appreciable mainly on the finish. There's a strong, dry, grainy maltiness (that's quite pleasant) up front, along with a bit of vanilla. Though this is nowhere near boozy, there's a bit of alcoholic strength present, which is also nice. No real hop flavor, unlike many strong wits.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, smooth and creamy.

Overall: Overall, this is quite a nice strong wit. Last night I had another that I quite liked, and this is a style I typically avoid. Double or strong wits have just never really done it for me. This one is quite different from last night's (Clown Shoes' Clementine), in that it's really just an typical wit scaled up a bit. The dry grainy backbone is great, and the mix of citrus and spice is nice. This would be a strong B+ (i.e. I would consider buying it semi-regularly if it was around) but at a price point of $9-10, it's probably not something I'd buy often, hence the B. Put this in a sixer for $10, and I'd deft. pick up a couple ever summer.

Another highly experimental twentieth anniversary ale from Schalfly. Citrus Wit carries the heaft, creaminess, and flavor profile that most similarly resembles Hefeweizens than Witbiers, but with a heightened citrusy demeanor that's not entirely hop derived.

The wheaty ale starts with a deep yellow, nearly golden and with an orange-like tinge. Cloudy as most German and Belgian wheat beers are expected, the beer just carries a lot of visual weight. Creamy white foamstance lasts for half the session before settling in with no further lace or retention afterwards.

Refreshing scents of citrus and fruit abound from the rim of the glass. Full bready aromas provide a base for the fruit, hop, and ester complexities. Dough, yeast, and fresh baked breads give a rich aroma to balance the understated sweetness, spiciness, and fruit notes.

Full flavored for a Witbier, the heavy wheat flavor replaces the crisp wheat character of Wits for the more rich taste of Hefeweizens. Banana esters and clove phenols only further emphasize the German wheat character. However, citrusy notes of orange peel, light lemon and apple acidity begin to rein in the Belgiany attitude. Hoppy with citrus and earthy focused hops both balance the beer and give a surprise element to the softly bitter finish. Bready, doughy, and softly spice with corriander also seem to balance with white pepper and cumin for a zesty brightness to coincide with malt richness.

Full bodied for a style that is famed for high drinkability, but this bolder version gives a rich creamy, starchy, and protien rich texture that lingers into finish before the zesty citrus and herbal bitterness usher in a warming alcohol feel that only modestly dries the finish.

A very inviting beer that promotes the flavors of both Hefeweizens and Witbiers, but foregos the refreshing drinkability that's famed by classic Belgian Witbiers.

Poured from the bottle a cloudy grayish lemon yellow with one finger of white head.

Aroma of lemon, apple and yeast.

Tastes of lemon, tart apple, white wine, yeast and saltine crackers.

Lighter bodied and very dry with a moderate carbonation.

I really enjoyed this beer from Schlafly. Well done.

A - Pours a lemon color that is hazy. Large white head with soapy lacing is also a plus.

S - Yeast, bread, orange peel and some coriander.

T - Citrus flavors come through up front. I can notice orange and lemon the most. This fades to a bread-like taste that remind me of saltine crackers. Finishes clean with little aftertaste.

M - Carbonation is more muted than I thought.

O - Not my style but a good representation all the same.

A - Poured out a cloudy, golden orange color with a two-finger, egg-shell white head of bubbly foam. It left sudsy sheets of lace ont eh glass.

S - It smelled of citrus and strong yeasty notes.

T - It tasted very yeasty with cracked wheat notes. Nice citrus flavors with a touch of corriander.

M - It was crisp, sharp and snappy on the toungue. A medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This is a very nice witbier. Another well done anniversary beer from Schlafly.

Thanks to Dansting for this one. 750ml. bottle served in a Tank 7 tulip. Poured a very hazy pale gold with a finger or so of white head. Aroma of this had me worried. Smelled very off, like it had some fermentation problems. The taste was better. Soft with some subtle clove. Citrus was pretty subtle as well. Wheaty finish. Light bodied, nice mouthfeel from the wheat. Aroma really improved as it warmed, clove came out a little more. Overall, I was a little disappointed.

thanks to wilkins44 for this!

poured from a 750ml into my Boulevard tulip glass (also from wilkins44)

appearance: awesome looking brew. soft and golden yellow that is completely opaque, big white fluffy head with only a few bubbles in it.

aroma: nice smells of yeast (typical witbier smell), but accented by some lemony/citrusy tones. very pleasant on the nose

palate: i was expecting some overpowering yeasty body, but this is a very soft feeling beer. leaves a little bitterness to it, but nothing compared to other witbiers (which i always disliked about them)

taste: a beautiful blend of the strong yeasty flavors with the citrusy lemon. its not blow you away flavor, but just strong enough to get the point across. even tho it doesn't have the power of a strong stout, this is still a beer that is great sipped. i get a little bit of the spices at the end

overall: i was pleasantly surprised with this beer. my first from schlafly and i am very impressed. will definitely try to trade for more beer from them
