This was different but not bad. The rye flavoring is a nice unique touch. I would not rush out to get it again, though.

Straw yellow to gold in color with a quarter inch of creamy brilliant white on top. Light lacing. The aroma is of tropical hops and spicy to earthy rye. I'm tasting a well balanced amount of spicy earthy rye and tropical hops. The mouth is light, crisp, and pure.

a nice beer here, a little safe or conventional as they go now, this would have seemed more daring and unique ten years ago, but its well made and its a six pack type for me, one i could drink several of in a sitting, albeit somewhat mindlessly for better or worse. good clarity here, rising white head, plenty of carbonation. it obviously has rye in it when i smell it, the classic pale rye malt spiciness, but its balanced well by some richer crystal type malts, not sweet but built up a little bit. the hops are piney and sturdy here, bittering this up pretty well in the smell and taste, almost all in the finish too, this has a familiar trajectory as i drink it. the rye is there for sure, dry which is nice, but its pretty well incorporated, which is nice for drinking a bunch of these, but i like a bit more of a pronounced kick from it, and think maybe the 20% could have been 30% or more in this mash to yield a somewhat more assertive rye complexion. that said, i like the way it works in conjunction with the other malts in this, and appreciate it greatly as a balanced beer overall. good bitter hop bite at the end and a grapefruit element as well. nice proportionality, this should have wide appeal!

12 oz bottled "with love" on 3/7/17 7.2% ABV poured into a Schlafly stange glass. The beer is golden yellow and just a bit hazy. Head is cream colored and persistent with beautiful lacing. Smell is grapefruit and rind with just a touch of earthiness. Taste follows smell with grapefruit, citrus rind, and tropical flavor giving way to earthy bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is solid, smooth and creamy with moderate carbonation. Overall, very good beer from Schlafly. Recommended
