Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Tasmanian IPA is brewed with 100% Australian hops. The Tasmanian hop, Galaxy, is a strong, aromatic variety that is different from traditional strains of the Pacific Northwest. Our brewers developed a recipe that showcases the hop’s unique flavors of citrus and pineapple.

India Pale Ales (IPAs) were first brewed in England during the late 1700s for export overseas to British soldiers in India. To keep their beer from spoiling during the long voyage, English brewers fortified their traditional pale ale recipes with natural preservatives: more malted barley, for a higher alcohol content, and more hops. In recent decades, with growing appreciation for highly hopped beers, American craft brewers have revived the style, embraced it, and incorporated new hop varieties. Our Special Release IPAs further those traditions and showcase the distinctions of hops from different hemispheres.

bottled on 11/17/15, consumed on 11/27/15 so very excited for this beer and the freshness.

pours a light orange with a thick white head.

smell is unique, full of sweet hops but is not the usual hop variety; some nice Aussie hops.

taste is sweet with slight bitterness. i like the hops on this, not overpowering but very flavorful. finishes dry and bitter. each sip reminds of starburst, both the candy and the astronomical event in a strange way.

overall a pretty damn good beer. not my favorite IPA but a beer i would totally buy again. the Aussie hop fascination is interesting to me. they are citrus hops but not in the same way as American citrus hops. i prefer a quality combination of American hops but this beer is unique and well made. i imagine this being a ridiculously great beer for warm weather.

bottled 9/15/16 and enjoyed 10/1/16
pours hazy light gold with a solid head, looks pretty good.
aroma is amazing, light and juicy. Galaxy hops ooze out of this.
tremendous flavor, full of hop flavor which makes this light, juicy, bitter yet sweet. finishes sweet and bitter, great flavor.

one of the better IPAs that are easy to find (at least for me). this beer fresh is pretty damn good, i love Galaxy hops so this is amazing. light and bitter

Appearance of a light lager with nice lacing. Wonderful citrus notes of grapefruit and pineapple. Smell is equivalent to its taste. This is a top 3 IPA and one that could only be better if the Aussie hops weren't seasonal and this Schlafly offering was available year round .

12oz, "bottled with love on 08/25/2015"
A - frothy ivory head fades to a thin foam atop a very hazy tangerine colored ale with heavy particulate matter suspended within
S - juicy lemon-lime citric hop aroma with light caramel, a bit of pine and grapefruit
T - juicy and very zesty with lemon, lime, and grapefruit rinds, light caramel, a bit earthy with some piny notes as well
M - medium body, zesty tingle to the tongue, finishes bitter and semi-dry
O - good to try with good utilization of the Aussie hops.

Cloudy, hazy golden appearance. Sometimes some extra amount of particulate floating or settling. Amazing citrus aroma.
Bitterness and grapefruit flavor that I really like. Finishes easy without lastiing astringency or alcohol bite. Smooth and creamy mouth feel.
Definitely one of my favorite IPA's.

Hazy dark yellow liquid with a decent off-white head sitting atop. Retention is minimal.
Smell is ... odd. Citrus, malt, bread and a weird note that starts to show as it warms. Starts similar to furniture polish then progresses to industrial cleaner. Not off-putting but weird.
Taste is juicy, grapefruit and lemon, pith, floral and that odd chemical note. It fades into the pith note but still odd.
Medium bodied, medium effervescence, drying finish. It ain't horrible, but it ain't great. I hope I got a bad bottle (there are two more in the fridge).

Well, second bottle shows the predecessor is off. Smell is fine, no off notes at all. All citrus, hops, floral and a bit of bubblegum.
Neither is there any weirdness present in the taste.
Hell even the appearance is better with nice sheets of lacing being left behind.
I've changed the numbers to reflect this bottle. Only thing different is the first was approaching room temperature so maybe, like all the megas, this needs to be consumed cold and fairly quickly else the evils appear. One hypothesis. Cheers.

Appearance - copper in color indicative of the style's color. Smell - piney but smooth. Taste - tropical fruit back end and little bitterness, very solid. Overall - this is a good beer. I would like to try this on tap for sure.

Pours a hazy straw color, with a little carbonation. An aggressive pour results in a huge, foamy white head. A mild smell of hop. An nice pineapple/piney hop taste. Very clean and crisp with a lighter mouthfeel. Perfect malty balance. This is top notch.

On tap at Downtown Crown Beer and Wine. Medium golden coloring with small foam head. The Galaxy hop is growing on me, the aroma is somewhat pineapple/citrus and develops the slight "oniony" characteristic when it warms. Flavor is grassy and slight citrus, again, somewhat oniony. Definitely a hop bomb, bitterness is on point and is very well-rounded.

Gorgeous hazy orange gold color. Scent is grapefruit with a touch of sweet pineapple, and the taste follows the nose. The citrus quality of the galaxy hops, while prominent, is relatively restrained compared to some single hop galaxy beers, but this not a criticism. So while the beer is about the hops, it's not over the top. Texture is on the light side for an IPA, which makes this a refreshingly easy drinker at over 7% ABV.

12oz bottle, dated 08/31/2015. Pours a cloudy orange, with a light head that lasts . Aroma is of spicy hops, with some fruit. Taste is sweet and fruity, with a bit of piney hops; smooth finish. Light mouth-feel.

I had this just after having Oskar Blues Pinner, and I like this one better; the TIPA is not as intense on the pine flavor, but it's still there. A solid IPA.

L- On the light side, lots of particles floating

S- Not a big nose. Mostly grapefruit, some lemon, maybe a bit of pine.

T- It's bitter. Again grapefruit but not much else going on.

F- On the thin side for an IPA but totally acceptable.

O- felt like this was just bitter for bitter's sake. Zero balance. I imagine some people prefer this to "fruity" IPA's but honestly I may as well have bitten a grapefruit. Nothing actually wrong with it but lacks complexity.

Look - Poured a small one finger head that dissipated quickly. Very light for an IPA, light amber, hazy, lot's of floaties and debris.

Smell - Floral, pineapple, citrus, tropical, dankness, pine.

Taste - Follows the nose. Pineapple, lemon zest, orange, spice, pine, bright, lower malt character, moderate bitterness. Enjoyable and unique IPA with a very hoppy taste without much of a malt balance at all.

Feel - Medium body, slightly sticky.

Overall - Enjoyable and recommended to try if you are a hop head. Not really a west coast but not as full and sweet as IPA's that carry a more balanced malt character.

L: A yellow golden beauty. Poured with two fingers of white head. It remained a few sips in. Left some nice spider web lacing.

S: Citrus, pineapple, mango.

T: Taste followed the nose. More pineapple and mango. Absolutely delicious. Almost zero hints of pine.

F: Medium bodied and moderately carbonated.

O: Easily one of my all time favorites. I'll be picking up another six.

A - nice golden amber murky color, white head that sticks and leaves nice lacing
S - Nice bitter grapefruit, overly ripe fruit, dank, mango, papaya, kiwi
T - Immediate fresh orange/lemon/lime zest, bitter grapefruit rind, kiwi, mango, papaya, very dry, almost no malt character is discernable (which is a good thing for an IPA)
M - light - medium mouthfeel, alc is completely covered, after taste is bitter citrus peel, fresh citrus fruit, bitter
O - this is an awesome beer, and a nice surprise for Missouri. I have a hard time finding great beers from Missouri other than the big Boulevard Beers and Mother's Milf. This is probable the first rock solid IPA I've had from Missouri.

slightly hazy light golden color. Dripping with tropical fruity piney hop goodness and just enough bready malt to bring it all together. Very nice IPA!

Pours a dark amber with a light foamy head.

Nose is big on the tropical notes.

Flavor is a great balance, a bit of malt to smooth out the bright bitter hop characteristic. Very clean beer, nice finish.

Clear, golden/orange look. Thick white head that last a long time. Smells great. I love the citrus. Great citrus iPad flavors. Freshness is key with ipa's so I always try for local and this fits the bill. It's a thinner feel, but I usually drink stouts. Overall, get it fresh if you can, it's great.

Look - hazy bright orange

Smell - papaya orange grapefruit

Taste - mild citrus with hints of orange and papaya. Not overly bitter. Unique hop profile. Great candied orange finish

Feel - medium body well carbonated

Overall. - not the overly sweet juice bomb that is flooding the market. Not the bitter pine bomb from the left coast. Subtle citrus. Great flavor. A solid iPa.

Poured from a bottled, dated about a month old, into a tulip glass.
L: Bright orange to tan color with a finger of head, nice and clear. Leaves nice glass lacing.
S: Lots of fruit and candied fruit on the nose. Pineapple, melon, peach, passion fruit.
T: Follows the nose with candied tropical fruits up front. This is followed by some bitterness and some alcohol notes. The finish is sticky and sweet.
F: Medium mouth
Overall this is a nice IPA that really shows off Galaxy hops.

L: Bright gold/straw color with a slightly orange core. Lasting, fluffy head and strong lacing. Lots of little suspended particles.
S: Sweet candy / citrus (especially grapefruit). Tangerine
T: Bitter, not as much fruit presence. Strong malt backbone. Grassy herbal hop flavors.
F: Great balance. Not too effervescent, not too thick and oily. Slightly "chewy"
O: Very good beer. Was surprised by the tropical fruit aroma. Not overly bitter or acidic. Easy drinking.

Poured into a glass, nice clean light amber color. Aroma is pineapple and candied citrus with a pleasant dank cut grass note. Taste is very bright and follows the nose but I get some oranges as well and a subtle peppery spice at the end. Medium bitterness that subsides quickly to a bready malt.

Blind I would have never known this is 7% plus abv. I have found a new favorite IPA.

This unique hop variety smells like stank feet. I don't know how else to explain it beyond feet. It is a nice beer with solid flavors and good feel, otherwise. It just smells like my shoes after a 10 hour day at work.

Poured a fresh 9/15/15 bottle into a tulip glass. Look is a light golden yellow color with a thin off white eggshell color head. Not much aroma hits the nose but a very slight citrus flowery note does come through. I'm a huge hop head but this is a much more subtle tasting IPA which would normally cause me to give a low rating but the use of Aussie and New Zealand hops was very well done. The taste is not overpowering at all. Very little malt backbone and a very unique hop mellow upfront taste that is hard to describe but also very enjoyable. Mouth feel is very light, crisp and oh so very refreshing. If I was dying of thirst this would be a great treat! Overall, highly recommended for the unique refreshing taste that in no way feels like a 7.2% ABV IPA.
