Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Tasmanian IPA is brewed with 100% Australian hops. The Tasmanian hop, Galaxy, is a strong, aromatic variety that is different from traditional strains of the Pacific Northwest. Our brewers developed a recipe that showcases the hop’s unique flavors of citrus and pineapple.

India Pale Ales (IPAs) were first brewed in England during the late 1700s for export overseas to British soldiers in India. To keep their beer from spoiling during the long voyage, English brewers fortified their traditional pale ale recipes with natural preservatives: more malted barley, for a higher alcohol content, and more hops. In recent decades, with growing appreciation for highly hopped beers, American craft brewers have revived the style, embraced it, and incorporated new hop varieties. Our Special Release IPAs further those traditions and showcase the distinctions of hops from different hemispheres.

Great top beer from great brewer now available in NY-NJ.

A: Pours a clear yellow, bright amber color with a frothy head that leaves a plentiful dotty pattern.

S: Bright like a west coaster. Bright herbal, lemon, pineapple and grassy tones, like a California IPA.

T: Starts a bit bready, English legacy, w hops asserting very ripe pineapple, lemon, passion fruit and a grassy, California trail tone. great finish.

F: Medium body with moderate carbonation, with long drawn finish.

O: Fruity and herbal and big in the California way, but bready, European strain as well - even a Germanic influence. A unique IPA

Poured from 12 oz bottle dated 8/19/2015 into snifter.

A: Clear golden yellow with two finger white head. Decent retention and plenty sticky lacing.

S: Grapefruit, pineapple, and lemon. Bright floral hops.

T: Light citrus with grapefruit, pineapple, and maybe a touch of lemon. Light cracker malts and subtle sweetness.

M: Medium body and average carbonation. No real hop bitterness. Very easy drinking.

O: Wonderful IPA. Very happy a picked up a wider instead of a single.

I thought I had rated or reviewed this year's ago. One of my favorite seasonal releases period. Love the Australian hops in this one. So aromatic and flavorful, bursting with juicy tropical fruit hoppy goodness. This year's Stone Thunderstruck reminded me of this one but with a higher ABV. Fantastic IPA.

The smell is bright, floral, tropical and slightly spicy. The taste is pretty unique. Bitter from the start and then juicy and citrusy and a bit spicy. The aftertaste is something I can't intentify but I think I like it. nb

Looks nice enough with a head that while it lasts, looks more frothy than foamy. Clear, bright and pale orange with that aforementioned head of white settling above.

Nose is aggressively dank from the start, with its nose clearing onion/rubber /menthol action.

Taste is everything I expected based on the nose. It's raw, dank, grassy, a touch grainy, and finally full of citrus once you battle through the initial violence.

Finish is dry, slightly sweet but mostly clean.

I don't want to get too excited, but oh my. This is spot on and powerful.

Poured cold into a tulip glass; should be pretty fresh, bottled on 9/15 I think.
Look = 4.0 Pours a cloudy golden straw color with orange highlights and 1.5 fingers of crisp white head with solid retention and good lace.
Aroma = 4.0 Hops of citrus, grapefruit, and orange on top of a crisp bready malt backbone.
Taste = 3.75 Big grapefruit, orange and overall citrus notes. Cracker and bread notes in the balance. A moderate bitter finish.
Feel = 4.25 Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation, light, crisp and fizzy.
Drinkability = 4.25 Very easy drinking, light and refreshing.
Overall = 3.975 Nice IPA here, citrus dominated and refreshing.
