Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Tasmanian IPA is brewed with 100% Australian hops. The Tasmanian hop, Galaxy, is a strong, aromatic variety that is different from traditional strains of the Pacific Northwest. Our brewers developed a recipe that showcases the hop’s unique flavors of citrus and pineapple.

India Pale Ales (IPAs) were first brewed in England during the late 1700s for export overseas to British soldiers in India. To keep their beer from spoiling during the long voyage, English brewers fortified their traditional pale ale recipes with natural preservatives: more malted barley, for a higher alcohol content, and more hops. In recent decades, with growing appreciation for highly hopped beers, American craft brewers have revived the style, embraced it, and incorporated new hop varieties. Our Special Release IPAs further those traditions and showcase the distinctions of hops from different hemispheres.

I've had a few different Galaxy-forward IPA's. Of two I can think of off the top of my head, I loved one (RAR Hyde) and hated another (Clown Shoes Galactica). This one? It smelled like gruyere cheese. It tasted like gruyere cheese with an earthy, biting finish. Very strange. Not entirely undrinkable, but one of the oddest-tasting beers I've ever had.

From the growler (filled at Total Wine, Fredericksburg, VA), it pours amber with a nice head, diminishing to a thin layer (but remaining awhile). Lacing. Nose is piney and citrusy to me. The taste is very pleasing with a bit of tart and citrus and possibly pineapple. Yum!

Pale Amber color with an inch of head. Nose very citrusy with orange and melon. Hints of pine. Taste grapefruit and melon, orange peel and floral hops. Strong finish. This is the IPA from Schlafly that gets all the hype. It's a very good IPA that's only seasonal but not as good as their AIPA. Will still happily drink many of them.

Hazy straw yellow pour with one finger head. Dissipates to a light resiny layer with significant lacing. Looks like a hefeweizen! Smell of hay and grass and some lemon and grapefruit tones. Taste is wonderful and is more citrusy than the smell. Feel is also very pleasing. Overall a great ipa with significant depth

Bottle dated 9/14/2016 poured into a pint glass. Appearance is a cloudy bright straw color with countless bubble streams, a small head, and heavy lace rings. Aroma is grassy, with a slight citrus zest. Taste is earthy floral notes and unripe pineapple. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonated with no aftertaste. Overall a very easy drinking and flavorful IPA that is a pleasant alternative to the prominent West Coast piney variations.

One of the better IPA's I've had the pleasure of enjoying. Truly unique in the sense that the beer does very well to play on the New Zealand hop varietal which makes this so easily drinkable. Strong notes of pine and citrus predominate. Highly recommended.

L-Glowing cloudy golde..nice lacing and perfect head..

S-Great aroma....Fresh, floral, pine, pineapple, peaches

T-Excellent fresh, sweet fruitness...pineapple and peach cocktail...sweet oranges as well....

F-Medium bodied....perfect carbonation...just a light finishing bitterness that has you asking for more...

O-Great IPA...they hit the mark getting the most flavor out of the hops used in this one. Really a dynamite IPA.

Pours a hazy gold with a big white head that leaves lacing everywhere. I get a tone of pineapple and some peach in the nose with a nice malty sweetness. There is also a bit of pine there as well. The taste is fruity at first and then there is a big pine blast that lingers along with a nice malty sweetness. This is a tasty IPA.

-Spiegelau ipa.

A: Turbid orange juice coloring, dirty ivory colored head is frothy, slight with an average rate of retention lapsing to a washy covering. Light display of spacious carbonation bubbles rise leisurely.

S: Fresh lemony flair, right from the bottle with some tropical fruit, orange-pineapple and slight hint of wet peach. Decent awareness, keeps for awhile.

T: Flowery semi-dry orange hops, tropical sense, with a good rate of dry hopping on the end. Citrusy-orange flavor has a raw, dry , flowery sense, providing a big bitterness and dryness. Lemon peel dry hopping rounds out.

M: Slightly creamy, medium body, dry hopping bitterness bites the inner cheeks with a good awareness. Good crispness.

O: Overall a big bite of raw flowery hops, tropical, nice coloring with a in your face amount of ibus. Flavor seems a bit rough around the edges, raw, not individually defined but will best serve those looking for a citra like, hop punch that is all about the bitterness.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip. bottled on date of 11/17/2015.

Look -- 2 fingers of white head atop a hazy, but not turbid, pale gold body. It leaves wonderful lacing as you drink it down.

Smell -- Pineapple, grapefruit, a bit of orange, hints of resin and hoppy floralness. Fantastic.

Taste -- Orange, pineapple, and resin are what come through the most along with a nice lingering bitterness that is counterbalanced by some malty sweetness.

Feel -- Moderate body but the carbonation is fairly low and so it hangs a bit heavy on the tongue. It's a bit like drinking apple juice with just the slightest hint of carbonation.

Overall -- The one word description is juicy. It's a delightful showcasing of the fruit flavors that can come from hops. My only complaint is the mouthfeel, I wish it was a little more carbonated.

As I stood in the chilled sixers section of Crown Liquors, I contemplated what beer would best excite my palette on another thrilling Friday night.

Suddenly, a hairy hand appeared from beyond the glass, sliding a single six pack of Schlafly TIPA onto the bottom rack. Curious, I stooped down just enough to make out "Tasmanian India Pale Ale". I was sold.

Look: A golden dawn, shrouded in mist

Smell: Citrusy and floral with a hint of pine

Taste: An immediate sweet and sour note followed up with a piney bite. Tastes like someone crossed a tangerine tree with a pine tree and milked its sap. I love it.

Feel: Has a bit of a heavy feel that hangs in your mouth. Probably the only unpleasant thing about this beer.

Overall: The unique taste really carries this beer. It reminds me a bit of Milky Way White IPA by Anchorage Brewing Company but a little more drinkable. Definitely recommended for something different.

Pours Hazed lighter Amber, nice looking fine off white fluffy film, collar and lace left on the glass.

Mild tropical fruit nose

Citric fruits, pineapple, grapefruit, oranges all, over this one.

Citrus and hops smell. Taste was similar. Light grapefruit, and a strong bitter hops. Maybe it was the citrus that brought the hops on even stronger than I would have expected. Feel wasn't too 'tangy', despite the taste, and was definitely dry. Wish I could have seen this one...Drank it from the bottle at a housewarming party. Didn't want to be the guy who asked them to dig out their boxed-up glasses. I will definitely have this one again, so I'll update the rating next time around.

Pours an opaque, golden orange, with a foamy white head. Medium to light lacing. Citrus and hops tingle the nose when you take a sniff. Immediately upon taking a sip, there are notes of sweet citrus flavors, backed up by bitter hops. The sweet to bitter ratio is quite nice. As such, it is pleasant and easy to drink. The mouth feel is good. Overall, great beer right here. Pleased with it.

Served in a 12oz snifter.

Got some on tap at the Bottleworks--it was so good that I took home a 64 oz. growler. Not bitter for an IPA, but still packs a lot of flavor. Was equally good a couple days later from the growler.

This was quite a nice surprise. Picked up a few singles at a local supermarket just to try it out. Bottled in August, it is now December, this ale definitely does not appear filtered. Which is good. I love a cloudy IPA, usually means more body to the beer. Which in this case it does. Australian Galaxy hops build the bitter and aromatic profiles, of which are grapefruit, cedar and slightly lemony in flavor.

Delicious in all regards. Only wish I could get my hands on more.

This beer was bottled on the 9th of September and is fairly mature for an IPA but given its prior reviews I decided to give it a try since there are indications it lasts fairly well.

The beer pours out into a Duvel glass a lightly hazed apricot color with a 1" fluffy white head that slut sowly but visibly recedes to an irregular patch of foam and and thin cover on the rest of the liquid. As it recedes it leaves a heavy pattern of lacing. Sipping leaves some scattered long slender legs of lacing.

The aromas include some pineapple, what seems to be mango and some citric orange zest with a touch of hop resin floating around in there.

The flavors are much as expected from the nose with the pineapple, mango and orange zest. In addition the moderate amount of resinous bitterness stands out more than it did as one of the aromas.

The mouth feel is medium bodied and both smooth and prickly with some light gentle carbonation. The finish is medium length and begins as the tropical fruit flavors begin to disappear followed by the orange zest leaving the resinous bitterness to slowly disappear as the palate goes dryer and dryer to invite the next sip.

Overall I thought this was a well made beer that I've enjoyed giving a try. Since this is a fall release I doubt I'll be picking up any more this year. I will, however, be putting it on my list to get some of in the Fall next year when it is a bit younger. However, I suspect this is an IPA that ages gracefully as I certainly have no complaints about the aromas and flavors.

Poured into a tulip glass.

A: An opaque lemon yellow with an off-white one finger head that dissipated to foamy and bubbles. Light lacing.

S: Mangoes, lemons, oranges.

T: Almost like a saison. Lemon-y goodness. Finish is grassy with Belgian elements. Citrus love abounds. Very low bitterness.

M: Medium with medium to high carbonation. A dry finish.

O: A nice change of pace. Those Aussie hops really shine.

bottled on 11/17/15, consumed on 11/27/15 so very excited for this beer and the freshness.

pours a light orange with a thick white head.

smell is unique, full of sweet hops but is not the usual hop variety; some nice Aussie hops.

taste is sweet with slight bitterness. i like the hops on this, not overpowering but very flavorful. finishes dry and bitter. each sip reminds of starburst, both the candy and the astronomical event in a strange way.

overall a pretty damn good beer. not my favorite IPA but a beer i would totally buy again. the Aussie hop fascination is interesting to me. they are citrus hops but not in the same way as American citrus hops. i prefer a quality combination of American hops but this beer is unique and well made. i imagine this being a ridiculously great beer for warm weather.

bottled 9/15/16 and enjoyed 10/1/16
pours hazy light gold with a solid head, looks pretty good.
aroma is amazing, light and juicy. Galaxy hops ooze out of this.
tremendous flavor, full of hop flavor which makes this light, juicy, bitter yet sweet. finishes sweet and bitter, great flavor.

one of the better IPAs that are easy to find (at least for me). this beer fresh is pretty damn good, i love Galaxy hops so this is amazing. light and bitter

Appearance of a light lager with nice lacing. Wonderful citrus notes of grapefruit and pineapple. Smell is equivalent to its taste. This is a top 3 IPA and one that could only be better if the Aussie hops weren't seasonal and this Schlafly offering was available year round .

12oz, "bottled with love on 08/25/2015"
A - frothy ivory head fades to a thin foam atop a very hazy tangerine colored ale with heavy particulate matter suspended within
S - juicy lemon-lime citric hop aroma with light caramel, a bit of pine and grapefruit
T - juicy and very zesty with lemon, lime, and grapefruit rinds, light caramel, a bit earthy with some piny notes as well
M - medium body, zesty tingle to the tongue, finishes bitter and semi-dry
O - good to try with good utilization of the Aussie hops.

Cloudy, hazy golden appearance. Sometimes some extra amount of particulate floating or settling. Amazing citrus aroma.
Bitterness and grapefruit flavor that I really like. Finishes easy without lastiing astringency or alcohol bite. Smooth and creamy mouth feel.
Definitely one of my favorite IPA's.

Hazy dark yellow liquid with a decent off-white head sitting atop. Retention is minimal.
Smell is ... odd. Citrus, malt, bread and a weird note that starts to show as it warms. Starts similar to furniture polish then progresses to industrial cleaner. Not off-putting but weird.
Taste is juicy, grapefruit and lemon, pith, floral and that odd chemical note. It fades into the pith note but still odd.
Medium bodied, medium effervescence, drying finish. It ain't horrible, but it ain't great. I hope I got a bad bottle (there are two more in the fridge).

Well, second bottle shows the predecessor is off. Smell is fine, no off notes at all. All citrus, hops, floral and a bit of bubblegum.
Neither is there any weirdness present in the taste.
Hell even the appearance is better with nice sheets of lacing being left behind.
I've changed the numbers to reflect this bottle. Only thing different is the first was approaching room temperature so maybe, like all the megas, this needs to be consumed cold and fairly quickly else the evils appear. One hypothesis. Cheers.
