Style: Belgian Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Spring

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Belgian-Style Golden Ale opens with a fruity nose and rounded sweetness that compose a pale and balanced beer. Hallertau hops lend a hint of spice that balances the aroma and flavor of orchard fruit. Similar to our Belgian Tripel, but with a lighter body and a crisper finish, it is the perfect introduction to the family of Belgian beers renowned for their complexity and delicacy.

Beers from this region reflected the diversity of Belgium itself, a nation that has three official languages (Dutch, French, and German). Bordering Germany and France, Belgian ales incorporate the complex flavors of French wine into the German brewing heritage. In Post World War II Europe, Belgian brewers developed golden strong ales to compete with the rising popularity of lighter Pilsner style beers.

A: Pours a nice white head. Color is a hazy golden orange.

S: Smell is belgian malty and quite yeasty. Pleasant.

T: I should mention I have had this beer multiple times this year and the taste has evolved since summer when I first had this. It is a nice bready maltiness, followed by a very subtle hop stabilization. Perhaps a bit too malty.

M: Moderately heavy bodied.

O: Overall I have enjoyed this beer all season as I drink what will likely be the last of this years vintage. I find Schlafly's beers to be inconsistent, but when they hit a good one, they are quite enjoyable. This is not a homerun, but its a solid american-belgian style golden ale offering from a brewery that makes pretty good limited releases...

Bottle -> Chalice

Pours a pale transparent "champagne" gold color. Very little head. Consistent but few bubbles rise.

Faint banana smell, not much else and not strong (may be that it's very cold here right now).

Really pleasant taste. Crisp and light without any overwhelming flavors. Might be a little bland compared to others. Some sourness lingers in the mouth.

Mouthfeel is great. Perfect carbonation and bite. Does not coat the mouth much.

Very good overall. Could be a little less watery and be more flavorful.

Slightly hazy golden color with a decent off-white head that persists fairly well and does produce some nice lacing.

The aroma is yeasty with hints of fruit- apple, banana, citrus - and cloves.

The taste follows the aroma with apple or pear notes, a touch of citrus - lemon/grapefruit, banana and cloves, not overpowering, just enough for interest. Starts slightly sweet but smooths out and finishes slightly dry.

Medium bodied, smoothy and very drinkable with a well hidden ABV.

Maybe not quite Belgian, but well worth trying.

Bright golden color yields an effervescent head that had a light color and stacked above the rim of the glass.

The scent is quite clovey with an air of doughy malt. Very light and airy it's predominately clovish.

The flavors are sweet with doughy malt and a bubblegum-like finish. The flavors are so strong to the bubblegum-like that I catch a literal Juicy-Fruit flavor. That's not a bad thing it's just strong and unlike most Golden Ales.

The feel is sufficiently carbonated with a nice crispness.

Overall, this is a nice ale with an easy sweetness and drinkability but perhaps not the complexities needed to set it apart.

Bottled on 4-25-13. Healthy pour into a tulip.

Refreshing, good for the summer except for the high 7% ABV (which is sneaky). A very tasty beer. I would classify this beer as more of a saison than a Belgian Pale Ale.

A – Pours a pale yellow/straw colored, slightly cloudy with a white rocky one-finger head. Average lacing.

S – Farmyard, yeasty, peppery, citrusy (lemon).

T – A clean taste, slightly astringent. A balanced Belgian Pale Ale. Citrusy/bitter finish. Well hidden ABV.

MF – Medium bodied, good carbonation resulting in a slightly sharpness, dry finish.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker pint.

Appearance
Straw with 1 finger of white head. Good clarity and low carbonation.

Nose
Pear, gold apple and Brett.

Taste
Golden delicious apple, pear and Belgian yeast. This does carry a Brett yeast character. Light notes of hay and potpourri.

Mouthfeel
Light-medium bodied, smooth and dry.

Overall
On par with other Belgian Golden Ales. Nothing too special.

A - Pours a soft honey color that has a slight haze to it. It does have a good 1 1/2 finger white head that has good retention

S - Smells sweet but yeasty. I also detected peaches and apricots in the aroma.

T - Spicy upfront which surprised me. Perhaps a hint of coriander. This is followed by a yeastiness that has a slight peachy and apricot flavor to it

M - A lighter beer. It does go down quiet smooth. Lower carbonation than I would like. I do have to say you cannot detect the alcohol and it is a 7% beer

O - This is an OK. Not really my style. I will say it has a unique flavor. I don't know that it is one I will look for, but offered to me at a friends house or at a restaurant I would try again.

12 oz bottle, Bottled on 25 April 13, served in a Belgian snifter.

Pours a hazy yellow-golden with a small head. The head soon reduces to a ring but manages to produce average lacing.

S/T: Lemon, pear, starfruit & apple plus spicy hops. Some subtle banana and clove come to the fore in tasting. Like many Belgians, this one tastes better than it smells. Lightly tart and sweet: good balance.

Feel: Medium-light body; crisp carbonation; finishes semi-dry

O: easy to drink; a very solid example of style that could readily pass for an actual Belgian. Well hidden ABV

A: Pours a nice golden color with a fair head and bits of lacing.

S: Aroma of mild citrus, fresh fruit, with a hint of malt sweetness.

T: Taste is quit clean with a mild fruit sweetness, with a bit of citrus and malt sweetness. Mild bitterness and a dry finish.

F: Fairly moderate body, crisp and refreshing. The 7% ABV is very well hidden. Nicely balanced.

O: Enjoyable beer that goes down way too easy.
