Brewed by:
The Schlafly Tap Room
Missouri, United States

Style: Belgian Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Spring

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Belgian-Style Golden Ale opens with a fruity nose and rounded sweetness that compose a pale and balanced beer. Hallertau hops lend a hint of spice that balances the aroma and flavor of orchard fruit. Similar to our Belgian Tripel, but with a lighter body and a crisper finish, it is the perfect introduction to the family of Belgian beers renowned for their complexity and delicacy.

Beers from this region reflected the diversity of Belgium itself, a nation that has three official languages (Dutch, French, and German). Bordering Germany and France, Belgian ales incorporate the complex flavors of French wine into the German brewing heritage. In Post World War II Europe, Belgian brewers developed golden strong ales to compete with the rising popularity of lighter Pilsner style beers.

This beer is about as Belgian as my butthole, and any reviewer from Missouri who describes a Missouri beer with the words "sea air" should think again about how close he's keeping his intellectual creations to his own butthole. I suggest they are not as far apart as they were intended to be.
This beer is a Belgian beer with a domestic nose and aftertaste. If you ever wondered where the brewer got, or what is was he did to, his water the first time you tasted a Budweiser, you will not be surprised by the finish of this beer. It's fine, but not a good "Golden Ale in the Belgian Style."
It is fine if you like to drink, but Belgians aren't supposed to be clear, son.

Snagged a bottle of this for the typical single price of $2.50. Into a pint glass.

A - Got very little head from this thinner than a 1/4 inch with a pretty good pour. Pulls back to a very thin lace ring with a semi hazy bright yellow orange beer.
S - Smell is pretty good very vibrant fruit notes similar to a Tripel but I can't really pick up anything other than that fruit sweetness no bread or hops. Must be very faint.
T - Ah the taste actually does have a bitter edge I didn't expect that sort of clashes with the fruit and leave the palate mildly sweet and slightly chalky. Repeated sips are pretty much the same just a touch more fruity yeasts.
M - For 7% to me it drinks very heavy not as "crisp" as they say. In fact its pretty much drinks the same as their tripel with less hops.

Overall its OK nothing really to faun over like say their pumpkin ale but its still a decent beer I will not be picking up again.
