Maisel's Weisse has quickly become one of my favourite beers. After tasting it in Germany a couple of years ago, I hadn't been able to find a supplier back home in Scotland. However last week I discovered a fantastic bar that stocks the beer. After a couple of bottles I had re-discovered my love for the beer from back in Germany.

The beer was poured from a 500ml bottle into a weizen glass.

Appearance
- Despite being a white beer, Maisel's Weisse pours a slightly darker, more amber colour than most other beers found in this category. Cloudy, with a thin white head.

Smell
- Very inviting and complex, however not overpowering. Quite fruity with a malty, wheaty note.

Taste
- Delicious! It was quite yeasty and sweet with a lovely wheat malt finish. I was getting slight hints of banana. It does taste slightly different to most other beers of it's kind. There was something slightly sweeter which I can't quite put my finger on. One of the things I love about this beer is that it's one of those ones where the different smells and tastes gradually appear. You might not taste the very slight hint of biscuity banana at first, but maybe after a few sips you will. It also has a very pleasant, rewarding aftertaste.

Mouthfeel
- Quite crisp and easy going. Very refreshing.

Drinkability
- Very drinkable. Perfect for a warm summer night (or day!). You should always have a few of these in the fridge.

One of the best beers around! Quite hard to find on the high street but you can get it online and may even be lucky enough to find a good bar near you!

One of the betters Hefe brewed in Germany. Not to be bought everywhere, but if you spot it, go for it.

Nice taste, not too heavy, not too light, but still full bodied.

One of my favourites among Hefe.

This beer was poured into a weizen glass from the 12oz bottle.

The beer poured with a hazy straw colored body and a white fluffy head. The head does not hold as well as you would expect from this style and does not lace as much either. The smell is a typical wheat and bready smell. The taste is similar, and had the characteristics of a good weizen, but is just a bit on the weak side. The mouthfeel is also a bit thinner than the best ones out there. This is a nice beer, just not in the same league as the best out there.

Pours a very good, cloudy, light-brown colour, quite hefeweizeny. Good foamy defiant head, with a bit of carbonation. Looks nice.

Nose is pleasant enough but a bit underwhelming. Slightly sour grass aroma, with a hint of spicy yeast but not much. Very European, but not very good.

Taste is not bad, watery on the front palate, then descends slowly - a little too slowly perhaps - into an underwhelmingly rich, drinkable and slightly bitter palate. Finish is quite crisp and clean for a hefe. Lingering flavour is slightly herby, while mouthfeel is a little puckering and dry.

Okay flavours, but they're not dominant enough for me to really enjoy it.

I'd seen this beer a million times and passed it over for more recognizable brands. I was really surprised today when I opened the first .5 liter bottle.

Appearance - this is actually one of the darkest (non-dunkel) hefes that I've found. The beautiful orange color is something of an anomaly. The head is extra bulbous and lasts a good while.

Smell - cloves, banana, and a bit of citrus.

Taste - why did I wait so long to try this hefe? It's every bit as good as any other easily found hefe on the market. Very fresh, crisp.

Mouthfeel - highly carbonated.

Drinkability - hefeweizwen's aren't really highly drinkable as a style since they are a tad heavier than most other styles. With that said, I could easily enjoy 1.5 liters in one sitting.
If you see this brand at your local beer seller, give it a try...it's a great example of the style.

Haven't gotten to too many hefe's this summer, and that's a shame. Time to change that. A murky, dark orange, almost amber brew is topped off with a big rolling off-white head which stays put for a bit while the active carbonation shoots to the top. All the typical hefe aromas are present, including banana, spice, grapefruit and maybe even some coriander. The smells are vivid and complex and very promising. Tastes spicy, tart and piney up front with a good fruity kick in the middle and a sweet malty finish. Mouth-feel is light bodied and atypically crisp, yet still weizen like in that it has some creaminess too. Figure that one out. After a few drinks a sour essence presents itself but doesn't take too much away from the experience. This one's a keeper.

a) Dense frothy head, heavy lace. Dark orange / apricot hue, hazy, bubbly.
s) Typical Weizen.. banana, clove, wheat.... appealing balance
f) As with aroma, but with a more dominant wheat character.
m) Kinda light, slightly thin. Fades quickly. Needs more body and length.
d) Very quaffable

Normal 50cl Brown Bottle, best before 31 May 2008, drank late April 2008.

Poured into a Franziskaner Weissbier Glass and it looked a typical lovely weissbier appearance. A little darker than some, but still the normal huge white head and the cloudiness and bubbles you come to expect from this type of beer.

Vanilla and Banana aromas fill your nose, toffee comes along to add another dimension, great smells.

Clean refreshing taste, dry, crisp and with a citrus twang as well.

A cracking beer and one of the best in its style for me. I am mad I only picked up a four pack when last in Germany, I'll not make that mistake again.

Recent addition to the beer stable @ Trackside in Medicine Hat.

Certainly looks like a Weisse with the cloudy aprocot colour( although this beer is slightly darker than say Weihenstephaner). Nice thick head, good retention.

Classic Weisse aromas..caramel, banana, clove, and a slight tinge of pepper. Nice balance as no single aroma dominates.

Solid in the taste department as well. Bit watery initailly, but then the malt and banana yeast kick in. Clove and pepper spice follow up and linger into the dry finish.

Decent feel once the very brief watery period at the beginning is over.

Solid example of the style. Good summer thirst killer.

A: The beer is clear dark yellow in color with some hints of amber and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high off white head that died down but never completely faded away.
S: There are strong aromas of bananas in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste is filled with flavors of bananas and also has some notes of wheat and hints of clove.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is a little fruitier (with lots of bananas) compared to other German hefeweizens but is still easy to drink.
