16.9 oz bottle poured into pint glass.

A: Orange/amber in color, very clear until the swirl and final pour, the it was nice and hazy. Big head on this one... 2 or 3 fingers easy. Settles to a nothing with very little lacing.

S: A little different.... I've getting a little ripe banana and clove, but on orange of lemon notes at all... Instead I'm getting apple, little sour and sweet. Very nice.

T: Right off the bat I know this is a Hefe, and a very nice one. The apple in the smell is right there and it is sweet and wonderful. Overall taste is sweet the a nice wheat back bone. Aftertaste is just a slight bit on the sour side, but I think it balances out the sweetness. Well done.

M: Carbonation is right on for the type, light to med bodied also good for the style.

D: Wow I really like this beer. ABV is good and really does not feel like 5.4%... It seems much lighter. I could drink this all day.

I must try.... Look for this one.

Poured from 16.9 oz bottle into weizen glass.

A - A shade darker than most hefes, a bit orange/amber. Hazy, with a nice 3 finger head with decent retention but settles into nothing; no collar or cap. No lacing. Less than I expected from a hefe.

S - Wonderful, and a little different than some hefes. The banana is still there, along with faint clove notes, but there's something very sweet, maybe apple, with a lot of bread and nuts as well. More complex and less phenolic than most hefes.

T - Starts off with some overripe banana, with a suggestion of apple, peach, or other stone fruit. Very interesting. Mid palate some light wheat malt takes over, but the barley comes through as well making itself known much more than most hefes. Late palate is slightly phenolic but much less so than others of the style. Aftertaste is slightly citric, but not sour.

M - Highly carbonated and medium bodied, great for the style.

D - A great hefe, and a great beer at that, to kick back with. A little pricey, but worth it.

I love this hefeweizen, even if it does deviate somewhat from others. I feel Maisel's is a more functional "interpretation" than most. The sweeter, apple-like esters prevailing over sour wheat malt and clove/phenolic flavors make this one hell of a beer for me. It's gotta be the yeast.

Yummm! Outstanding traditional Hefeweizen beer. Aroma and flavor have that traditional spicy clove, banana, malt, sweet-tart, thirst quenching thang. Wish it was distributed around La Crosse, Wisconsin again.

An excellent weizen bier, nice flavour, smooth and well rounded, not as good as weihenstephaner, but still very nice.

Great to see such a selection of German hefes in BC and this ranks among the best. The colour is darker than some and the nose is complex with a dark wheat note almost like a dunkelweizen. I liked the way the beer took the usual hefe flavours and married it with a maltier base much like Schneider-weisse. Incredibly easy drinking with good complexity this is a top shelf example of the style.

Orange in colour. Bananas dominating. Sweet, but nicely balanced. Not too much carbonated, medium body. Prototypical Hefeweizen.

A: Dark yellow. Small head that fades quickly.

S: Wheaty and pungent.

T: Starts off wheaty and ends with a chocolaty aftertaste. Very smooth. Great balance. There's another flavor in there that I can't put my finger on. It almost tastes like bananas.

M: Not too much carbonation. Very smooth. Light on the tongue.

O: I'm a big fan of wheat beer and this is one of the better ones I've had. Very good balance and brings something different to the table. I liked it a lot.

I poured my Maisel's Weisse Originial from a bottle into a mug with a dark tangerine colour with a 1cm of head that left no lacing. The scent was of banana, cloves and bubblegum. In terms of taste and mouthfeel, a prickly spice hit me first, then bubblegum with a less prominent wheat taste. I'm a huge hefewiezen fan, and I really enjoyed this one, so I'll definitely be drinking it again.

A cloudy, orange-amber body is capped by a full head of rocky white foam that slowly drops (no doubt buoyed by the teeming effervescence beneath) to a thin, creamy surface covering that holds throughout the entire glass but surprisingly leaves only spotty lace. The nose offers a light note of apple-like tartness, some soft vanilla and caramel, and a sprinkling of delicate spice. The body is light and it's crisp in the mouth with a very fine and effervescent, natural carbonation. The flavor reveals a wheatish malt that's nicely caramel-tinged with just the slightest touch of tartness and a sublime bitterness that acts only to balance. This weizen is more fruity and caramelish than the atypical banana-clove-phenolic Bavarian versions, and it makes a refreshing change of pace!

had this from a 1/2 litre bottle.
A: Pours a nice orangey-yellow color with moderate carbonation. Different look from Hacker-Pschorr or Schneider. A good looking bier.
S: Citrus smell, lemon mostly. Very inviting.
T: Follows the smell well. A full lemony taste that is very refreshing. No bitter after-taste.
M: No problem here. East going down/
D: I could have many of these without thinking. A very good weizen.

Overall, this is in my top 5 weizens and a true pleasure to drink, if you can find it. It is hard to find, but if you see it, get it!
I strongly recommend this bier. Prosit!

Haven't had this beer in many years -- back when it was imported to the U.S. by Merchant du Vin -- now imported by CMB Cincinnati and $9 a six-pack, very nice. Was good then, expecting no less today.

Not sure what sort of date code they use on this beer's 11.2 ounce bottles, but since it's a fairly new addition to the local beer store I shouldn't be *too* worried.

1-and-a-half bottles poured into my big-bowled Libbey Weizen glass.

A -- Cloudy tangerine-orange color with a dense and fluffy, off-white head that settles to a thin cap leaving sticky lacing.

S -- Spicy clove and light banana character with great wheat malt aroma coming thru.

T -- Flavors of spicy clove and light citrus balanced nicely with luscious wheat and bready barley malt. The clove and fruit esters from the Weizen yeast make up the backbone and finish of this beer with spiciness and mild citrus tartness lingering thru the aftertaste.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft and creamy up front to spritzy in the finish with a medium body.

O -- This is a very nice Weizen in the older style of Schneider's Original. Complex with a more robust body than other Weizens, yet still very satisfying and refreshing. It's good to see this beer available again, takes me back in time and back to Bavaria.

Pours a cloudy copper color with tiny little particles of suspended yeast. A huge fluffy head presents itself upon pouring, which slowly dies down leaving a nice thin lace on the glass. Aroma is full of bananas, lemon zests, and clove. Bananas are detected upon the first taste, followed by spicy cloves and malted wheat, finishing off with a mild bitterness of yeast. This is a good all around Hefe- that I could drink any day of the year.
