660ml bottle served in a Belgian glass. Best Before date is 30.09.2019.
Pours black with a tiny brown head and a moderate amount of very fine, very slow head. Smell is black licorice and a little char, overall a surprisingly mild aroma.
Taste is sweet, cherries (maybe cough syrup), none of the char from the aroma. Unfortunately, dominated by this cherry cough syrup flavor.
Mouthfeel is slick and smooth. Overall, I've had worse, but I don't want to drink this.
Note: Both my wife and mother liked it more than I did. They didn't think it tasted like cough syrup.

Original rating April 2014: Shared bottle at local tasting. Black colour, low tan head. Pleasant aroma of dark malts, black bread, hints of leather, liquorice and dark dried fruits. Medium sweet flavour with roasty notes, coffee, dark chocolate and molasses, hints of liquorice.
Have bought a big bottle now in Denmark, might re-rate.
Rerate 13.04.2022: 660 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 10.0%. Pitch black colour, large to moderate brown head. Full score on appearance! I'm also upping the mouthfeel and overall score. Otherwise as first sample.

Love all German biers. Let’s give this craft bier a whirl. Picked up for a song at Globus. Popping the top I get a nice black licorice waft with hints of cinnamon and clove. Pours to a thick jet black with a dark tan creamy head. Taste is super thick mouthfeel with a taste bud exploding front end of chocolate, molasses and cocoa. Middle is a complete chocolate array from sweet with butterscotch hints to semi sweet, high cocoa content than back to milk chocolate. Wow what a spectrum of flavor. Finish is pure chocolate. Underlying carbonation delivers the spectrum to the palate. Albeit on the sweeter side, this is one of the most impressive biers I have had.

Poured from fridge temp. Pours jet black with good head. Nose is roasted malts, licorice, dark fruit (blackberry), and chocolate. Taste is smoky wood, licorice, a bit of toffee, and chocolate. Really nice, with a creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol is completely hidden.

From the bottle, it pours a very dark brown with a brown head, quickly fading to a ring and leaving some lacing which also fades. Light aroma overall, some licorice and malt. Dried fruits and brandy in the mouth.

Opaque with a creamy beige head that faded quickly leaving no lacing. Aromas of sweet cherries, coffee beans, slightly chocolatey, with a quite noticeable alcohol note. The taste has a very assertive alcohol presence, almost like a light liqueur at the end. Reminiscent of those liqueur-filled chocolate candies, though not very pleasing. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a strange brew.

Poured in an Erdinger Weizen glass with wide-bowled 'snifter' style top (was ideal for it).
From notes:
Pitch black, even against the light -- but red highlights at the edge there. Tan head, brown towards the sides as it fades. Traces of lacing initially.
Smell is sweet dark choclate mousse, velvety alcohol, dear god I see what the fuss is about, concentrated tannins, dried fruit, prunes. Brandy-like wafts of alcohol esters.
Rich, thick, velvety smooth. Lowkey carbonation.
Taste follows smell: choclate mousse, concentrated -- dried fruits, tannins, brandy towards the finish, relatively dry at the end.
