The head on this beer is amazing. Retention and lacing are very good. It's got a bit of chill haze, which seems to accentuate the dark orange colour. The smell is characteristic of a Kellerbier, but even so it's never been one of my favourite things about this type of beer. It smells quite musty, with a little grass and sour cherry. The taste is actually quite neutral - refreshing, light, grainy, but not too much emphasis on either the malts or the hops. Mouthfeel is very dry, with a medium body. It's hard to score a Kellerbier high, but this one's one of the better examples in Bavaria.

Half Liter pour at Rosamunde's in Williamsburg.

This hit the spot after crossing the bridge in intense heat and humidity. Light, refreshing and clean but with a sweet, caramelly, dark bread flavor. The unfiltered quality is obvious in the appearance, but also lends a real full quality to each sip without affecting the drinkability.

I loved it.

Riegele Kellerbier
$6.50 for a pint at The Iron Abbey, Horsham, PA

Unlike the other reviewers here, I actually love the kellerbier style. I find that it softens the beer a bit, and think of it almost as German cask bier. However, I can say that if the beer is not fresh there will most likely be problems. I did not find that here. I felt it was fresh within reason, and found no flaws at all.

Appearance: Hazy golden-orange amber. Frothy white head. Fine-bubbled, steady carbonation. Good head retention and lacing.

Smell: Most likely lacking due to age, but still OK. Herbal/grassy hops. Golden malt base.

Taste: Well-balanced. Wide malt character resembles Pilsner malts but also some Munich malt - which makes sense as Augsburg is not far to the north west of Munich. Herbal, floral, and grassy hop flavors are threaded through. Median bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Delicately bristling median carbonation. Medium-light in body.

Overall: Pleasant and refreshing with enough character to keep it interesting. Quite drinkable.

My bottle is identical to the one pictured, except it says 5.2% abv. Poured from a brown 16.9 oz. bottle. Has a very cloudy, dark golden/orange color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts, some tartness. Taste is malts, floral hops, some fruits, light bitterness at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall a good beer, although I am not all that familiar with this style.

Poured on tap at Pizzeria Paradiso Dupont into a slightly curved wheat ale glass. Unpasteurized and unfiltered.

Bright and crystal clear yellow, with just a tinge of green to it. Bone white creamy and three finger head presented with meringue like retention. Decent staying power as the head cascades slowly to a one finger puck, and laces in lines all through the glass with a soapy sheen.

Aroma seems almost Kolsch like with bigger malt density. Slightly floral with some earthy and spicy hops. Faint clove sticks out a bit with a solid dense malt and chewy pils like sensing backbone.

Palate brings some real interesting surprises. Mid palate has a lemon and wine Riesling like quality, with a mild malt density. Chewy and controlled finish with a real balanced sweetness. Classic dough and bakery malt, and keller density but with a much lighter body. Palate is real creamy with some dense pils chewy character to match with it.

This is like a Helles Keller or something, with and almost Kolsch character and full on classic Keller malt punch. Real wonderful brew, delicious stuff!

A new beer style for me - the malts are a little breadier in this cloudy ale than in other lagers I've had; fruitier, too; muted hops and an overall softness to it. Not too bad, but I see my self preferring a crisp clear pale lager or some form of ale.

-pours a cloudy amber-orange with a big,frothy,offwhite head
-low to medium carbonation visible
-nose is very subdued
-medium to high bitterniss for the style
-low to medium carbonation
-medium body
If not for the clean lager-y finish i wouldve mistaken this as an amber ale.
Good overall.Nose is weak

The beer comes in a hazy golden color.

The beer has a wonderful light crisp malt body, possibly with wheat. A beautiful touch of sweetness with notes of fruity honey. An extremely drinkable brew with a wonderful balance of sweetness and crisp German brewing.

According to the bartender/importer, this beer is over fermented.

The colour is orange-yellow; the liquid is very hazy. The two finger head leaves some lacing.

The smell is very fruity and a bit unclean (in a good way). Some bitterness and quite a lot of malts.

The taste is fruity: Green apples, celery, peanuts, and plums. Among the flavours, I noticed vinegar, salt, boracic acid, BBQ spice mix, dry malt… The aftertaste is quite dry with some sour vinegar, honey, sweet almonds and a rather mild bitterness.

The carbonation is fresh and medium strong; the bubbles are large. The liquid is a little on the thin side.

I really like this style. But I would like to have even more of those complex unclean flavours!

Bottle in Berlin. Good. beer but i find it a bit off style.
Look is great, a deep unpenetrable amber color with a big white head, no floating yeast at all.
Very good and rich smell, the peach is definitely there at any temperature, great.
Taste too sweat and malty but still very drinkable, lacks of morr bitternes imo. Medium Carbonation.
