500ml Bottle: poured twice into my 'La Chouffe' stemmed tulip on 16 Mar 2013.
Looked special in the glass: rich deep ruby red when held up to the light, on top a full and lasting crown of tanned foam.
Alcohol soaked fruits (plums, raisins, dates) with malty molasses fill the nose when you take a sniff. It's like a drunken fruit cake sort of smell.
Those fruity and sweet malty esters carry on into the taste: the flavours are added too by dark chocolate and caramel notes, we are talking some seriously hefty notes here though.
The body is both rich and somewhat oily in nature: suits the flavours though, too sweet for some, but it really hit my sweet tooth in the right place. Couldn't drink this all night but I'd have managed another if I'd had one. Although the alcohol isn't hidden as much as I'd like, it is a very good example of this style.

50cl bottle poured into my Spaten Seidel. Best before Sept 2011.
A -Extremely dark mahogany ruby body, with 3 finger creamy head that has excellent retention and lacing considering the style. Excellent clarity.
S - Wholemeal breads, a little metallic, some milk chocolate.
T- Fresh wholemeal bread with a little toffee caramel note, some prune fruitiness, balanced nicely with a lingering bitterness, quick clean finish however. Flavours are definitely subdued.Alcohol well hidden.
M- Moderate carbonation and medium body.
D- A great looking, clean tasting dopplebock, but lacks any real depth of character, albeit still very drinkable.

Brown reddish color with a one finger beige head with short retention, but leaving some laces.
Bold malty aroma with notes of caramels, dark fruits, molasses and licorice.
Similarly, flavor of molasses, prunes, raisins, earthy hops, mild charred wood and licorice. Dry aftertaste and mildly bitter.
Medium body with low carbonation and a sticky feeling. Alcohol of 7.5% abv just contributes to its flavor.
This is a bit too sugary for my taste, leaving it with low drinkability, but still a good beer and true to style.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black color with a huge, spongy beige head.
Smells of toasty toffee malts, licorice and a whiff of lighter caramel.
Drinks utmost soft, with a medium body, showcasing the silk richness in this perfectly.
Tastes of fudgy molasses with a glazed caramel note to it. Features a perfect amount of sweetness, balanced by roasted malts, amped up by a tingling spiciness. Finishes with a astonishing softness, bakers chocolate and additional molasses.
Great Bock, producing a fantastic depth of flavors, while exhibiting a fantastic smoothness.

Dark brown with a tinge of red. One finger tan head. Malty aroma with toffee and dark fruits. Taste is fruity but with touch of liquorice and sweetness. Body is medium with light carbonation slightly sweet on the palate. I liked it enough but not one not the best DBs in my opinion de to a liquorice taste and a little too much sugar. But it's still pretty good.
