Pours a deep, dark cola color and settles in the glass black with mahogany brown on the edges and a delectable creamy tan head that is a bit clingy and provides a nice cap on this imperial stout. Gorgeous beer in the glass.

The nose features rich cocoa, some char, oak from the barrel, and a bit of stone fruit. Very nice. The cocoa is forward on the taste, along with that roasty char note, but the oak and stone fruit flavors really elevate this beer, and flow through to a bit of booze at the very back of the palate and settles warm in your chest. Man, am I digging this.

The mouthfeel is just a smidge on the lighter side for a beer of this magnitude (13.8% ABV), but this is still a really well done BA imperial stout that I’d stand in line for.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a half finger light khaki head with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, whiskey, dark dried fruit and a hint of cocoa. Flavor is dark toasted malt, whiskey, coffee, leather, woody oak and a little bakers chocolate and vanilla. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A solid whiskey barreled stout that really shows off the whiskey flavors. Although the body is robust enough to support the whiskey, it seems just barely being a little bit boozy. However, the flavors are great and while whiskey is up front, other malt flavors like chocolate, dark fruit and vanilla are revealed in the finish. Warming and flavorful. Lumberbeard is putting out some really solid and fine stouts.

enormous but it doesnt really show it, robust and long lasting without having to be particularly sugary, layered and complex instead of barrel dominated, this was really nice, and it certainly seems to me like these guys are capable of just about everything at this point, still so early in the game for them. this is deep brown short of black, thick but short headed from the tap, creamy mocha toned, lace lasts the whole drink, big notes of coffee and barrel char to my nose, marshmallow burnt on a campfire, smooth whiskey and alcohol, wet pipe tobacco or even hookah shisha, sweet like that, highly aromatic and nuanced. great flavor too, espresso beans, dark chocolate, a little honey and coziness from the whiskey, heavy oak, black roasted barley, unlit cigar, brownie batter, all of it. obviously fuller feeling beer given what it is, but it doesnt hang in my mouth like a lot of them do, which i appreciate, especially given all this flavor. it seems especially well crafted for its size, which was true of the other strong ales i had in here, and this base stout before it hit the bourbon barrels. very solid, no frills, smoothly textured, remarkably well done overall.

Phenomenal new offering from a newer brewery to me, on tap in Meridian ID.

A: Dense, jet-black body with a small khaki/mocha head and some lacing.

S: Wonderful, strong whiskey in the form of caramel, vanilla, coconut, and barrel char. Deep, darkly roasted malt, hints of coffee and dark chocolate.

T: Smooth, velvety bourbon and roasted malt, charred oak, vanilla, coconut, mocha and fresh ground coffee, espresso...bourbon is well-integrated throughout with a mild sharpness and mellow warmth, dark fruits, caramel, figs.

MF: Smooth, full-bodied, warm but not overly boozy. Creamy finish.

O: Super impressive, this tastes phenomenal. Full-bodied, almost chewy, dark sweetness, warming bourbon, great barrel presence, strong roasted malt undertones.

Dark appearance with slight tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a very pleasant smooth bourbon and malt. Taste is also a very smooth blend of bourbon and malt.
