Had this in the cellar for almost two years. BBD of 23.09.29.

Deep reddish-brown with a dense light brown head and good amount of lacing. Aroma of caramel malts with also some sweet fruit notes, reminding me more of a Doppelbock than an IS. Taste starts slightly sweet and gradually turns to bitter coffee and chocolate notes, finishing dry. Low carbonation and nice, oily body. A good IS.

Had wanted to try this during my Cafe Abseits visits, but couldn't squeeze it in. Instead, I got a 0.33l bottle from owner Gerhard , gratis. Vielen Dank! Get this - best-by date is 28JAN30. Whoa, 15 years down the road. Sorry, can't wait to age it.... Enjoyed it on a hillside overlooking Valkenburg Holland on 01OCT15.... Ingredients listed were water, barley, wheat, oats, hops and yeast.

Poured a thick, opaque, oily black. Had a thin, tan head, mostly a rim-clinger, with ok lacing. Nose was a bit on the mild side, but did display some coffee, mocha and cocoa. It was quite smooth and the body was medium-plus and almost chewy. Nice!

Flavor had more coffee, dark choco, cocoa nibs, and lots of roasty bitterness. Floral hopping came in lightly at the end, and lingered well. A solid RIS! Thnx, Gerhard! Zum Wohl!!

12 ounce poured into tulip glass in Salzburg. Dark appearance with small head and small bubbles. Light aroma. Bitter hops, chocolate malts, sweet and bitter and yeasty.

Nice dark brown color.
Great taste with a more earthy tone.
Hints of coffee, dark chocolate, even a nutty taste. Some hits of dark fruit in it as well. Warm boozy taste upfront, which is then offset by the earthy bitter tones.
Overall, a great Russian Imperial.

Pours very dark brown, half finger tan head that subsides quickly to a thin film and sticky lace.
Smells mostly "stout-ish", with dark (almost burnt) malts, even some nuttiness, lower dark chocolate character, some hints of coffee, and even fainter dark fruit, with a tiny bit of tartness.
Taste starts with that dark fruit component, some raisin and sour cherry, quite acidic and alcoholic from up front. It's balanced fast by rough dark chocolate and coffee, and the dense roasted malts settle in and make camp till the finish. A low spiciness, with faint licorice and some woody cinnamon. Nice hops in the finish, a grassy undertone, bringing back a bit of fruit and mixing with the roast to create a nice bitterness.
Medium body and prickly carbonation, ok for a sipper, but could have been smoother. Not as boozy as presumed from the smell.
A heavy imperial stout, big on the roast, decent with the other aspects. Not one to search for, but definitely a good one.

Someone would say: "I don't like the cover..too damn traditional, that old guy and his dog..." Anyway, it's about the taste. Poured in, very dark black colour. Little bit oily. Moderate foam. The nose is ubernice:
Cocoa, dark roasted malts, raisins, chocolate pie, mousse au chocalat...wow. First sip. Nice texture. Very good mouthfeel, nice finish with some cocoa, brown rum and even notes of Amaretto.... but too much alcohol taste in my opinion. Why not Balance this a Little more better....?
