I stopped at Chicone's after making a haul from Casanova's (it seems like comparison between the two is inevitable, though I'm not sure it's correct), and found Chicone's a nice store. The atmosphere is a little more like that of a grocery store than that of the rustic Casanova's. What I really missed, however, was the singles selection I found at the previous store. NG Raspberry Tart, Belgian Red, and various 12-packs were in good supply, and I found Central Waters BBBW and Peruvian Morning, so those were definite positives. I didn't really find that the selection was really there, however. No special experiences with service to speak of.

If I was a local, I'd probably go to Chicone's for the prices. As an out-of-towner looking for variety and singles rather than low prices, however, I can mostly see going back to Chicone's to look for special releases that might not be available elsewhere.

this is like a big box liquor store, with a fairly small section devoted to beer in the back. Its decent, but it didn't seem nearly as good a selection as what can be found at the Nova, not much different on price, and nowhere near as pleasant.

I was excited to come here since this is where my New Glarus trading partner gets their NG beers. Overall, I sorta felt this to be middle of the road for me. On one hand, it was convenient to get there, and once I found the beer selection I was after, it was easily reviewed. The one thing I wasn't crazy about was its BevMo type feel. It wasn't evident that it'd been focusing on the craft beer scene; more like it was tolerating it and welcomed its profits. Overall, I'll probably go back if I need a quick and easy Wisconsin-only beer haul.

Chicone's has a much different vibe than I expected. It was in a strip mall, and without having a better way to phrase it, had the feel of a place in a strip mall. That being said, they had a pretty rockin' selection of 750s and 12 ouncers that weren't around other stores in Hudson. Overall, a pleasant experience with decent prices. I will check it out again next time I'm in Hudson.

One of the bonuses of living in the Twin Cities is being able to drive to Hudson to pick up beer that's not distributed in Minnesota. I've pick up Dogfish Head before their retreat from this part of the country and a drive over the river was my go to source for Stone before they finally moved into Minnesota. Also, during speech season, when I work Saturday's for three months in a row, trips to Hudson are necessary to replenish the beer fridge because of MN blue laws.

There are two choices in Hudson from my experience: Casanova Liquors and Chicone's Liquor Mart. Both are better than good; I've switched back and forth over the years, but I slightly prefer Chicone's, especially after some of their recent changes.

New single bottle case
My main reason for going to Chicone's is that they generally are a good bet for picking up New Glarus Belgian Red (or Serendipity this year), my wife's favorite that I stock continuously. Normally, I would go to Chicone's for Belgian Red and a few standard six packs from a smaller selection; Casanova's would be for more variety in spite of a higher cost. However, on my latest trip, I was hunting Serendipity and found a re-vamped store. Chicone's seems to have added variety to its coolers, repacking them a bit more efficiently.

Plus, they've created an extensive single bottle case to take home mixed six packs. Despite (or maybe because of) my 5000 plus beers I've tried, I'm becoming more conservative in my choices, tolerating a mediocre or worse beer less than I used to early in my beer quest. A large variety of out-of-market singles makes the risk of a new brewery palatable.

The high point of the single bottles were both New Glarus: Black Top, a Black IPA, and the Thumbprint series IIPA, a double IPA. Not a surprise and fun additions to my New Glarus collection. Tommyknocker Hop Strike Black IPA and Perkulator from Dark Horse were just fine, but a bottle each was good enough. I added two breweries to my tally as well: Milwaukee Brewing and 3 Sheeps. I won't be going out of my way for either of them, but some times new for the sake of new is enough.

I just like dedication to the beer quality of Chicone's and, more importantly, having the entire beer stock in coolers (except single bottles) gives me confidence in what I buy. Just like any store that sells a fair amount of macrobrew, every beer drinker needs to be wary of how long the beer's been on the shelf (pass up on the summer ales in December, etc); however, between their normal movement of stock and extensive refrigeration, I have no complaints about my purchases over the years. Chicone's is one of my go-to beer stores and, happily, it just got better.

I'll usually swing in to Chicone's if I am grocery shopping next door to pick up a few of my go to beers. The convenience factor of the store is about all they have going for themselves in my book.

The atmosphere is sterile and uninviting in my opinion. I have been in many times without being greeted by a store clerk...which to me as a consumer is a huge turnoff. And come to think of it, I don't think I have been approached by a salesperson ever while in the craft area of the store, to see if I needed help. Maybe I just look like I know my beer?

Their selection is good and I love the fact that virtually all of their craft beer is refrigerated. My only issue with their product offering is it seems as though they offer everything that comes through their door whether or not its any good or not. Countless times I have went out on a limb and purchased something that I hadn't seen elsewhere and was grossly disappointed. It is obvious that Chicone's is more of your standard liquor store by looking at the seasonals that remain on the shelf long past their allotment date.

All in all, Chicone's does a good job in the craft arena, but I feel that they are lacking in a few of the most important areas for me. As far as convenience though, you cant beat them.

Chicone's is a pretty standard liquor store in most respects. They have a decent selection of liquor, wine and beer. I don't think they stock much that really stands out, but there are a couple of reasons I love this place.

Everyone seems to compare them to Casanova, which makes sense being that Nova is only about 2 miles down the road. The two stores are very different. Nova has a good selection of singles, and a lot of character. But, they don't refrigerate any of their singles, which is a minus in my book. To be fair, Chicones' 6er mix'n'match singles are not refrigerated either, but they also aren't anything to write home about. Their better singles and bombers are all refrigerated, though, along with pretty much everything else.

As noted previously, you will find Bear Republic, FFF, Dogfish, New Glarus, Rush River, Schell's, Rogue, Flying Dog, Bell's some Belgian, etc. What i have found is their lack of BA following and marketing means they don't sell out of the good stuff when they do get it in (FFF Dark Lord, Hopslam kegs...).

The final reason Chicone's is my place: the dude with the handlebar stache that seems to have tried every single item in the entire store. I love that guy.

Bottom line, Chicone's is a good stop if you are passing through WI to MN on 94. less than 2 minutes off the freeway to pick up some good WI brew, and possibly a gem if you are lucky!

My second stop in Wisconsin looking for New Glarus goodies while in Minneapolis for Darkness Day.

Chicone's is located in a shopping center with an awning that's the same color as every other one in the area so it was rather easy to miss.

Quality here is very good. Even though this is a predominantly wine place, they treat there bottles very very well. EVERYTHING is refridgerated and kept well lit and displayed nicely. Rotation also seems rather quick as all their bottles were pretty fresh.

Service was rather non-existant. There were two people working there and when it came time to ring us up, they were very friendly and quick. However, no one really asked us if we needed or wanted help the 20-30 minutes we were there. Still, since I knew what I was looking for, I really can't complain.

Selection was pretty good. They had a mix 6er program but the bottles seemed like things no one wanted to try. Most offerings from Bells, New Glarus, FFF, Founders, and others were on the shelves though along with a small selection of Belgians.

Chicone's is one of the cheaper stores that I visited in Wisconsin. Usually, their 6ers and bombers were about $1.00 cheaper than elsewhere. So definitely visit here before any others as you're likely to get a good deal on what you're looking for!!

Stopped by for the first time this past weekend for some Three Floyds and New Glarus goodness. Very nice selection of craft beer, tons of different brands from the east coast breweries to the west coast breweries. Stone, Three Floyds, New Glarus, Central Waters, Dogfish Head,The Bruery, and much more. Prices are good, somethings are priced very well, others not as well, overall a great value though. Service was terrific, very friendly and helpful staff. I highly recommend Chicones, great prices and great selection.

There is really no special attraction that this place has like Casanova does. It's a normal liquor store, it just happens to carry a ton of beer that us Minnesotan's can't get.

Service is fine, I'm almost never bothered while browsing.

Selection is pretty good, sometimes it's better than Casanova's, other times it's not. It all really depends on what your looking for, as both store's can be hit or miss.

Prices are comparable to Casanova's on most, different on others. Just pick and choose where you buy each beer from, but don't be too picky.

i usually stop at chicones after i hit the nova when on a beer run to WI..its you run of the mill liquor store in a strip mall with a grocery store and a home depot..the beer aisles are in the rear and run the length of the back aisle all the micros are in an open cooler,,they have all the brews you cant get in MN..the prices are reasonable and the selection is very good... picked up NG,bear republic,stone.oskar,DFH.and many others ..they also have a decent bomber selection of imports and domestic on top shelf...only drawback was the single selection it was a joke only about a dozen non-descript brews on a wire rack..overall the people are friendly and helpful ,the prices are reasonable ...worth a visit when your in hudson and from the TC you will 4 sure find something you like

I finally stopped into Chicone's after years of hearing how good a selection they have, and boy was I disappointed. It's not that they don't have a nice selection. It's that they don't have a great selection. If this store were anywhere other than on the MN/WI border no one would have heard of it. They have all the basic micros available in Western Wisconsin, and not too many imports. The isle the beer is in is a complete mess with twelve packs laying all over the place in front of the shelves making it hard to reach the rest of the beer. The service was friendly when they check me out. However, there were four or five people working, I was the only costumer in the store, and no one said anything to me until I was ready to check out.

Stopped by before I went to Casanovas. They have a decent selection. Found a lot of Founders, NG, Bear Republic. Got some breakfast stout and hop rod rye. Pretty good prices. Nothing over that I noticed. Store was well kept. A basic store, nothing fancy, but not a mess either.

The service was the typical 'do you need help finding anything' greeting. The store wasn't super huge so I didn't need any help.

I will prob. stop by again, but I prefer casanovas, as they have a bigger singles selection.

Went to Chicone's today after visiting Casanova's. They were giving away free samples of Old Style when I got there. Nice selection, decent prices, but they don't make as many singles available as Casanova's, and they are not as knowledgeable about beer. When I paid for my 4 pack of TenFIDY, the lady at the register said, "Wow, that's a lot of money to pay for a 4 pack." Lots of BMC sold there, so I'm not too surprised that the price caught her off guard. I thought it wasn't a bad price for TenFIDY.

I stopped into Chicone's on a recent beer hunting adventure. It is located in a strip mall type of setting. I would imagine its convenient for folks that are there to pick up some groceries or lumber. The selection was pretty good. It was your typical liquour store in that there were folks there to help you out, but they were mostly gathered near the registers. I was pleased with the selections, but I was outside my home geographical zone so a lot of the beers are unavailable to me here. I am not sure how the locals would see it. I will go back here when in the area, but it won't be a destination for me. They had what I was looking for and that is always a good thing.

On the way to Nova from the cities I had to check out this store as well. The store is fairly large and has the feel of you're regular liquor store. The service as very good, I was asked a couple times if I needed any help of if there were any questions I had. The selection Itself was pretty good, nothing extremely amazing that couldn't be found elsewhere, however I was excited to find NG Iced Barleywine. But aside from that it was pretty much standard for the area. Note: The make your own 6-pack deal is amazing.

This place has a huge selection of micro brews in six packs. Lots of WI brews along with FFF, Smuttynose and a few others not available in MN. The mixed six pack section is now much improved. Nearly all of their micro brews were refrigerated and were all in one long aisle which made it easy to shop. Service is average at best here. Sometimes someone will ask if you're looking for anything, but the majority of the time there is one or two cashiers and in my experiences, they are less than friendly. Kind of look to get you out the door as quickly as possible. Had Ten Fidy for $3 cheaper than another local beer store. Overall prices are quite good.
